I had Duquesne initially as one of my upsets, but I changed it at the last minute when I recalled someone here saying they were the worst 11-seed in tourament history.

Which one of you is to blame!?
I guess I meant not that Duquesne is better inherently than BYU. But they won yesterday. Thus they are better than BYU.

So we are playing the better team

I hear ya, they certainly look like a formidable opponent. Almost B10-like, which I would say is to our advantage (their efficiency numbers are kinda Maryland-y).

the Illini continues to show their ability to adapt, finding ways to score, tightening defense without fouling and better use of the bench to keep our legs strong, spells trouble for our opponents. Coming together at the right time, perfect. I'm loving it

The Morehead coach spoke to how hard it is to prepare for the Illini because of their versatile styles of play and how they adapted their style of play during the game. Cannot recall the last time I heard an opposing coach say his team took the opponent out of their offense...and then got blown out.
I'm sure Duquesne will be looking at lots of film from different games, including Marcus' booty ball games, TSJ's runaway train games, the games in which Coleman was a 3-point threat and/or a driving threat, Quincy going on a heater and, of course, Dainja's recent emergence at both ends of the floor. Not sure how you prepare for all of that in one day. And there's no way to replicate TSJ's speed and angles in practice. Long way of saying Duquesne may be good, but I don't think the Dukes can stay with the Illini for 40 minutes.
How many times have we heard an opposing coach during an in game interview state something like “we are not doing very good stopping Shannon……we have to pick him up sooner”……to which I always say…..”good luck with THAT”

I think we will be very hard to prep for in 2 days.

There's this one dude...he's a cool dude, smart and funny, good looking and talented. He even held the door open for my pops at the restaurant postgame PSU 2022.

BUT this dude...he keeps getting the instant karma of the other team snapping nets on us, 5 on 4, while he is still down at the other end arguing calls. Such a losing play. I'm worried about my TV's safety, if we go out in a close game where this happens again.

Life will keep teaching you the same lesson over and over until you learn it.

They also went on a rant a few years ago that our fans are super delusional and annoying and the Michigan guy said something like, “Of course they look back to things like 2005, because they have nothing to look forward to.”

He’s since chilled out since their program has crashed and burned and we’ve beaten them 8 straight times, lol…
Did they not coin the phrase "Daddy Brad"?

Perfection Reaction GIF

Not to mention Ty's cutting/rebounding/booty ball, Goode's IQ/shooting/toughness, Harmon/DGL scoring ability/bulldog mentality...

A BU masterclass in roster building.

Brian and Deon. No brainer.

Varsity app, then synch with the TV broadcast.
worked like a charm for me as all the games this season have.....I don't understand the complaining about network announcers when anyone has the ability to listen to Brian B. and Deon just by clicking on the radio app that Dan always posts on the first post in the game thread....try it , you MIGHT like it......

What's a Samford-Kansas ref doing in the background of this gif?

Duquesne is a strong defensive team who for as how physical they are don't overly foul outside of Dixon. They do a really good job of turning you over and giving you little space to operate leading to tough shots. That said, this is not a good rebounding team outside of Drame and Dixon and they offer up a lot of offensive rebounds. You get both into early foul trouble and Duquesne is in some trouble. We're going to need to be aggressive on offense, swarm the boards relentlessly, don't give up easy shots, and avoid the careless turnovers. This is a team that does play at a slow pace though they play significantly faster this season than Morehead State did, so they might be more willing to run with us than you'd think. TSJ going downhill is the key in this one, but Coleman defensively could be a big factor if he can disrupt shots and block off the rim. I also think that toughness on the boards out of Ty and Quincy will be the thing that completely tilts the floor for us if we get comeback games out of them. Play strong defense, attack the boards, and aggressively attack them on offense and we should make it to the 2nd weekend. But above all else, let's take it to them from the opening whistle.

Why not pre-game? Be ultra-selfish!
Haha, our 3-month old is AMAZINGLY easy to take out to restaurants and bars, so we have a lot of fun adventures with him ... but I think 3-4 hours would be pushing it. :ROFLMAO:

No problem, though - we will watch some other games at our local watering hole and watch the Illini at home with the sound on!

Yeah, like I said I think they kind of backtracked. However - and I will defer to those more familiar with their content - I believe they regularly hated on us circa 2021 back when Michigan wasn't a joke and it looked like we were nipping at their heels.

EDIT: They also seem to be an annoying example of a weird phenomena that I DESPISE in college sports ... where fans of rivals who claim to hate each other actually end up having each other's backs in outside debates more often than not, even if by accident. OSU and Michigan fans SAY they hate each other more than anything, but their shared pride in the spotlight of that rivalry actually has them coming across like they are a part of an exclusive club you cannot join (and therefore "on the same side" in some sense) a lot of the time. A similar dynamic exists with Indiana and Purdue, where their weird little instate pride in "Hoosier Hysteria" or whatever leads them to both overrate each other so that the state seems like a bigger deal. I get a subdued version of that vibe with these two and Michigan/MSU, where they have this mutual respect for each other that they might not for others. Again, this is describing their attitude I saw in 2021 ... I have seen some of their stuff since where they are very complimentary of the Illini and especially Daddy Brad.

I immediately said after about 6 minutes yesterday that Duquesne is the tougher matchup for Illinois. BYU was a GREAT matchup-they play little defense and their one strength on offense is the biggest strength Illinois has on defense.
I tend to disagree here. I'd rather play the team that is good defensively and doesn't score easily than the one who is predisposed to go on an epic heater from the arc. We've scored at will on comparable defenses. They are going to have to hit a bunch of 3's to beat us. Put TJ on Grant and let the chips fall where they may. I bet this one ends up looking a lot like the one yesterday. Tight for 35 minutes, then we run away when their legs go. It's sort of who we are.

Due to the slow starts and inconsistent defense, we're kinda overdue for a good old fashioned 40 minute butt kicking. I don't think its being disrespectful of Duquesne to say we can do that in this game. Maybe goes without saying in a 3-11 matchup, but we have ability to be that much better than them.
