The best part of the past three weeks has been the amount of time this team has had to practice and add more offensive sets. Big Ten play means better scouting. The IQ of this team bodes well for the coaches.
And it sounds like we haven’t shown much so far this year. BU mentioned in his recent presser that he only ran 2 sets against Mizzou.

I believe the keys to beating Purdue is ......pressuring their guards....force an uptempo type game that limits Edey's touches....and having good games from Hawkins and Dain/Hansberry wouldn't hurt.....if we can do these things I like our chances against the Boilers
The good news for us is that we are very good at uptempo basketball games this year. But Purdue will be very good at trying to force the game to slow down as well. It should be an interesting matchup.

More than any team in the nation, Purdue has strengths that are totally obvious. No one can stop Edey from getting 30 without a double, and their guards are deadly from the arc. Their role players are pretty solid also. You need to pick your poison, but for a chance at beating them, forcing their guards off the arc is the most likely way to slow them down and Ty and TS are the perfect defenders to get that done.

Of course if Edey goes for 45, that may not work....but what the heck do I know? They pay me nothing and BU gets paid millions. But it is still obvious to most of us.

It is optimal on the defensive end. Ty is improving with every game on the offensive end. Happy to see passing rather than one guy dribbling.
I would have liked to have seen McCammey have this many moving pieces on the court with the then Illini squad. But you have to play with the players that can be recruited at the time.

Dain,

Will play against PU for fouls, problem is he is sort of Kofi light. He is nowhere near the inside presence Kofi. I think the BU wants to play much more like the NBA without the typical back to the basket type of 5.

I am really interested to see how we can use CH to neutralize Eddy. There is no question Eddy gets his, but it would not surprise me to see CH pulling him away from the rim being way more valuable than anything we get inside with Dain.
I really wish we could keep his head in the game as there will be times where he would be super valuable, unfortunately playing 4-5 minutes per game is not going to help.

I see a little Kenny Battle in how Ty goes after rebounds. I was a skeptic, but he has won me over as a guard. When Mizzou pressed, he blew by his guy a couple times, and they seemed to be less aggressive going after him the second half. We will see some highlight reel dunks by him in the B1G.

Hopefully Dain gets his mojo back against a lesser opponent.
He has to do more. He is playing like a traditional 5 and that does not get him any good looks. He needs to develop more of a dribble penetration move like Coleman.
Not sure if that’s possible.

He tries to dribble penetrate but if the ball hits the floor twice, by the time the third dribble starts, the double is crashing down on him hard because they know he's not gonna pass at that point. He can do a power dribble to get himself an angle and get gathered but more than one dribble gets very dicey for him.

The other major advantage of this schedule the past month has been getting plently of rest for Coleman and Quincy. Those are injuries that could really linger and cause problems, but having full weeks off almost all month gives them plenty of time to recovery and be ready for when we need them. You can see the difference in them now compared to games like Marquette where they were clearly less than 100%.

Hopefully they can remain healthy for the rest of 2024!

agree - Hoping when Illinois gets up 30 in the 2nd half we don't have starters still in the game.
I just saw Illinois 92-FDU 61. So in other words, to cover the spread, we have to outscore them by 32.

Well, the sold-out house should have a nice fireworks display. I think the team is mature enough to come out strong and keep the pedal down.

Gotta run up the score on these guys to push us up higher in the NET rankings. KenPom's got us winning 98-66. I'm afraid if we don't win by at least 32 we'll likely drop in the NET.

People thought Colgate was the trap game. Wrong. 📢FDU is the real trap game📢. People on this board and even podcasts already marking this as a win, which is definition of a trap.

1. Coming off emotional win ✅
2. Holiday break ✅
3. Kenpom 300+ so easy to overlook ✅

You saw what they did to Purdue.

Now, that being said… I think we take care of business easily. This team hasn’t looked underprepared since Valpo, and we still covered that game. Need to seal the nonconference strongly and not get a Q4 loss before 2024. That’s a 1-2 seed line loss if we are upset.

If Dain gets 5 offensive and 10 defensive rebounds and has 10 pts on put backs and plays good defense he’s had a spectacular game. To me that’s how Dain can really make this team great and is well within his skill set.

I believe NET likes margin of victory up to a certain point.

I think it’s 10 points.

So running up the score past that doesn’t do much.

I’m guessing it’s more of how efficient we are on offense and defense that will adjust our NET. (As long as we reach that 10 point win)

Tobin Anderson coached his only season at Fairleigh Dickinson(don't blame him) and bolted off the success. The two best players on the team last year were guards that Anderson brought from his Division II gig that aren't around anymore. The team last season relied more on guard play, this season it's lacking and not consistent. I don't think this is trap game at all.......I get the connection since only game left before conference play and going off FDU short lived success.

So you want him to average a double double?
No, but it will happen against FDU. My point, though poorly expressed, is more that I see an important role on the team for Dain. But do not see him as a center piece player. His value is off the ball on offense crashing the boards and getting put back points. I would position him just outside the lanes along the baseline. Defensively I would love him to just take up space in the lane and rebound.
