Just took a trip down memory lane.

The panic was real, the despair was real. People calling for Hoiberg and doubting the hire. Calling Ayo non-Athletic. Funny when you go back and look at it

Read through a bit of that thread. Makes you appreciate what we have now and what we have been able to build.
Good lord some of the takes in that thread.....

I know this board wasn't around back then (probably) but what about this final score from a post-Christmas/pre-New Year's game.

December 30, 2007

Tennessee State 60, Illinois 58
It was around, and I was here. We were in full “Fire Weber” mode by 2007. The arguments were intense and the bannings were frequent! The general chat was often political, anyone could start a thread about anything, and you can imagine how much fun that was for Dan. That’s why you see things much more structured and controlled these days.

I posted on the last page or two....................Banning's were frequent , as you said , and well deserved......I know ...........I got one a couple or three years ago....I deserved it and had to beg DAN the MAN to let me back in the fold ......I will always support DAN the MAN in his moderation as I was a long time member of the scout board with the heavy handed mods there.....if you ever posted there then you know who I'm referring to ....No need to name name's.......

I have avoided at all costs any political posts or theme's here as this is not the place to do that , even in the chat forum.....But , I love the chat forum now .......

I really really do ..................................

I still remember when I first started on here (I was living in Indy at that time, part of the reason for my screen name; I've been back living in the Land of Lincoln for almost 7 years now) and we had someone named DaytonIllini that posted on here that had a politics related thread. Don't know whatever happened to him (or if he's even still around).

I do have to commend Dan for not letting stuff get too political on here once the pandemic hit. There's another board I'm on that the mods basically started letting anything go once the pandemic hit, especially politically, and it has made things a lot worse on there.

We just beat misery like a rented mule and now we are going down the embarrassing losses path ???........it's the holiday season ....I want to enjoy it with the win over misery ...........How bout you ??????
Lol absolutely pru. I am in awe of where we are right now as opposed to back then. It’s just funny to think about our progress.

And I’m enjoying the misery win a LOT. 🍺

We should roll them. Not just for us, but for them. We can't let them go home with a close game, or God forbid, a win. So what we need to do, for their memories' sake, leave them in a daze: "Do you remember that Illinois game?" "How can I forget?"

I remember that someone asked what were our odds of landing Kofi after this game. Keep in mind that Kofi posted something to the effect that he was very bored in Champaign on instagram. Someone replied that unless he was tied up and put in a trunk, he was on the first flight out of town. I never forgot that, I thought it was embarrasing to have brought Kofi on a visit in which he was "bored" and we lose to one of the worst team in the NCAA. Kofi had an uncle who told him to give Illinois another chance, mentioned that if a school needs him that much that his chances of playing and proving himself there was the best. He was right about that.

Why can't we be the Timber Rattlers?

Lack of timber? And rattlers?

I remember those days vividly, too. I remember spending many an hour during grad school and law school on the forum, and Dayton, OrangeFever (had an avatar of Don Freeman), Salty (can't recall his exact handle), Kramer, and a number of others really built this place into a great place to be for illini fans - albeit under very turbulent times in Webers tenure. There was so much disappointment and frustration by 2007/08 and then cautious optimism with the 09 and 10 classes and we all know how they played out.

Miss seeing those guys around here but still glad we have this venue, as someone else stated the other boards (Scout, HQ, etc) were just downright awful.

Why can't we be the Timber Rattlers?
These venomous snakes are potentially the most dangerous species found in Illinois due to their large size, long fangs, and high yield of venom. Luckily, Timber Rattlesnakes have a mild disposition and don’t often bite. They typically give plenty of warning by rattling and posturing.

Why would we want to imitate Kentucky like that? :)

This is going to be a beating.
