Sitting seniors to play freshman in order to make us more consistent is an...interesting strategy.
I didn’t say it would make us consistent. I said I’d rather give the freshman a chance instead of putting Damonte Williams who is a 25 yr old senior out there. He doesn’t do anything. His defense hasn’t been great, he’s absolutely invisible on offense most games and he’s a legit minus every game. To continue to use a guy you know is not helping your team is an… interesting strategy

pre-game meal..............................

being an early game we decided on a breakfast brunch type menu.............................

Western Omelet / run through the garden
Hashbrown's
Biscuits and Gravy
Orange Juice
Persian Cinnamon Rolls
Coffee

gummy bears
groping and squeezing

Here's hoping for a victory and heading to the Sweet 16 for the beloved .............................................
"Persian cinnamon rolls. " OK, Pru. I give. What makes them Persian?! (And, yes, I know I'm setting myself up there.) I have a strong feeling I need to incorporate those in my diet.

Houston fouls a lot, so I'd expect a bunch of points to be available at the line. Something along the lines of our second Michigan State, and both Indiana games.

Of course, it only matters if you, well, make your free throws.

Underwood sounds like the infection is still a problem so I hope he's feeling GREAT by tomorrow morning. Even more, let's all hope Trent is feeling GREAT tomorrow (and beyond!). Trent seems to have the most feeling of "team" and "Illini" and that may contribute to his being seen as the leader. He brings heart and I think many of us feel that from him. So, bring it, Trent; we're with you!
Somebody here suggested that the team be made aware of some of the pertinent history of the Houston coach to fire them up to show him how it should be done. I agree. Use some righteous indignation that a coach with that history dares to show up to play Illinois. Play with pride! Beat 'em and Go Illini!
Unfortunately, symptoms from pink eye can last anywhere from days to weeks to include blurred vision. I have confidence that Underwood and the Ilinois medical staff are doing everything they can to resolve this issue for Fraizer. He played well against Chatanooga despite not having his regular shooter's eye....no pun intended.

Feeling quietly confident after watching the extended Houston-UAB highlights on YouTube.

I think we win if Trent shuts down 6'4" Kyler Edwards. Streaky shooter (33.6% from three) who shot 6-8 on threes on Friday against UAB, but who has PLENTY of 1-6 or 0-7 or 2-9 games throughout the season. Pink eye has not slowed down Trent's defense and I think he gets it done.

I think you gotta put DMW on 6'5" Taze Moore. Moore repeatedly backed down a smaller UAB guard in the post and it'd be a disaster to have Plummer on him. That means you're forced to "hide" Plummer on Jamal Shead and hope for the best.

I just hope the team comes out with energy and tenacity and doesn't let up. No sleepwalking into a 15-point first half deficit, please. And then if the shots don't fall and we lose to a very good Houston team, so be it.

Outstanding questions:
Will Trent be able to see out of both eyes
Will Grandison be able to use both arms
How will Kofi handle double teams
I can see out of both eyes....but I am seeing double reviewing your outstanding questions....:🤔

I like a GAME DAY thread that begins the evening before game day. March, baby!

I love this team. We have some serious warriors. Worst performance since Cincinnati on Friday night in a complete grinder and they found away to win with D. Trent's out there for 32 mins Friday with one eye essentially swelled shut. Two steals, three rebs and four assists on only one TO. And he drains two FTs in crunch time. Jake still hobbled. Three rebs and two assists in only nine mins on no TOs. Palpable calming influence on a jittery team when he cam in the game. DMW six rebs and a steal on no TOs in 28 mins. Kofi getting shackled, hacked and still with a dub-dub despite poor FT shooting. CoHawk doing CoHawk things when the chips are down.

It won't likely be grinder today, of course. I'd like to see AC open it up in transition and for us to run with Houston. When the floor spreads he's an artist. This is the 39th Illini team of my fandom. Win or lose I'll cherish what these guys have done, through all the hardship this season, for the rest of my life. Can't wait for the tip. Onward to San Anton!

I’m case anyone still thinks DMW is not essential to this team…
2nd in rebounding, 2nd in assists, 2nd in steaks, 4th in blocks.

The kid does it all. Tired of the belief he shouldn’t be on the floor because he doesn’t shoot the ball a ton.

He also has fewer turnovers than any of the rotational pieces (Payne has less, but curbleo, Hawkins, and the other starters all have more). He is essential to our success.

2nd in assists. 2nd in steals. 2nd in rebounds. 4th in blocks. Lowest turnover count of anyone getting consistent minutes. But yeah, sure. He does nothing at all…. Yea don’t helping the team….it’s a good thing you aren’t paid to be our coach.

Here's a paltry baker's half-dozen of what he brings:

Looking at the lineups I actually think we match up well with them defensively. Edwards is the key and their PG isn’t a great shooter. They also don’t shoot free throws well and I doubt they shoot threes like they did against UAB (their second best shooting game all year while we had our second worst against Chattanooga).

They also have no depth so if they’re in foul trouble they’re in big trouble. Probably going to be another rock fight.

I have to assume Kofi is first in steaks 😂😂

Kidding aside, DMW is definitely the glue guy. If he can hit a couple shots today that would help a ton too.

I'm going to skip the delicious looking Persian rolls and go straight to a double bloody Mary to calm my nerves.

The game is going to come down to Plummer and rebounding on the defensive end.

We need to set the tone early on rebounding. Letting them get offensive rebounds early will be a morale killer.

It’s game day at the Dance! While we would all agree to varying levels that we’re not clicking on all cylinders, I go into today’s game feeling incredibly optimistic and grateful! Not too long ago, we were hoping for an NIT invite. Since then, we’ve been graced with the arrival of BU, Ayo’s amazing journey, a BIG tourney title, a BIG Conference title, 3 Freshman that will be really good and future recruits that should keep us competitive for years to come! But most of all, today might be the last game for 3 players that have completely transformed our program. Trent and DMW sacrificed for years and were instrumental in developing a program we can all be proud of. Kofi is a generational gift that has been a treat to watch! So my hope for today’s game is that our team goes out and plays hard and if we win, that’s fantastic but if we don’t I will be thankful for how far we’ve come. I will also wish nothing but the best for the guys that move on to the next chapter in their lives. Go Illini!!:shield:

1. shoot moderately well from the outside
2. limit opposing 8-10+ point runs
3. make your free throws.

If we do these three things today we win. If we do 2/3, we likely win. If we do 0/3, we lose.
