Shannon started the last game at NU, don't see why it would be any different going forward.
Yep. I maintain that Shannon didn't start vs. RU for only two main reasons:

1. A bit of a gesture to the team for how (mostly) well they played without him (i.e., Brad's "don't upset the apple cart" comment).
2. An opportunity for the crowd to give him a nice standing ovation to maybe calm his nerves.

He's our best player, and the sooner he shakes off any/all rust, the sooner we will realize our ceiling. There are SO many things that could have gone differently and given us a win in regulation in Evanston, and Shannon being "fully back" is one of them, JMO. I'm sure the staff, team and (most of all) TJ are all eager for him to be in Mizzou form again soon, and that means starting him!

FINALLY someone's making use of one of the Loyalty beach houses. About time.

reflecting tv land GIF by nobodies.

I'm not sure it's an Achillies heel, in that we absolutely crushed the same NW team at home.

I'd say when a team shoots over 60% from the 3-point line, including a bunch of step backs, and we miss twenty shots at the rim, we are in trouble...

I'd also avoid using the phrase "rub one off" in mixed company, but that's just me...
Oh Yeah GIF

I have only one request, can someone lead the Krush and get them engaged.
Not just the Krush, but the entire SFC. I keep reading that it's been loud in there or the crowd has been great (mostly in the hype from the commentators). But, from TV, the crowd has not looked engaged or seemed very loud most of the time. I hate to say it, but Northwestern had more of home court advantage against us than we have had for basically the entire season. I hope TSJ returns to his true form and wakes up a sleepy-appearing home crowd.

Seriously. It's not like there is a lack of students there ... it's full every game. It's not like they aren't passionate fans ... they get super loud during big plays. It's a complete and utter lack of organization compared to other Big Ten student sections. Your average Krush member is behaving like a student watching a basketball game ... not as a student who is a member of a student section. Those are NOT the same thing.

EDIT: On this note, I DISTINCTLY remember there being near constant chants from the Krush when I was younger ("Goooo, Illini, GO!" :ROFLMAO: ) OR them just jumping up and down yelling "OOOOOOH." The number of times the Krush members are literally standing there like they are in line for something causes the ebb and flow in atmosphere at SFC to be so much more dramatic than it was in the past.

Need this to translate into the game.

Coaching staff having confidence and expressing that to him helps.

I knew TSJ wouldn’t be back to mid season form overnight after not playing for three weeks.

When he gets hot again which could happen anytime this team is primed to take off. We had 6 players who all took major strides in his absence

Since this clip is making the rounds, I'll share it. They know their pregame hype song, they know when the beat drops, and they are all engaged. I didn't watch this particular game last night, but from what I remember from Zaga games, they stay amped.

Illinois interior defense is weak.

It's tough to find good interior defense anywhere any more (except maybe for some high school ball). And in the NBA... interior defense is NOT EXISTENT. When Big Men ruled the game a couple decades ago... interior defense was ferocious and intimidating. Every team had a big man that clogged the middle. It was the job of a fearless opponent point guard to drive into the lane and challenge the big man and to try emerge without being maimed while trying to open something up.

With the advent of the Three Ball in college and pro ball... this created a massive change in how and IF defense ever gets played. You've got to guard the Three Line... and much more space gets opened up to invite opponents to have their way in the paint.

But yes, the Illini must do a better job of defending that Paint. Coach seems to get a bit out of sorts at times... and the occasional (or frequent) waltz down the lane by Illini opponents does not bolster his good disposition or a pleasant facial expression.

But it's always the Good D that separates contenders from pretenders. And doing so without become goal-tenders.

Iowa, Michigan, Mizzou and others have become worthy of our disdain over time. But I became a rabid Illini fan around 1984, when I ten years old. I hate Indiana. I HATE INDIANA. I think most Illini fans my age feel the same way.

Beat these suckers!

I rewatched the 2004 Wake Forest game and the atmosphere was out of control. The Krush were sleeping in tents outside The Assembly Hall to get in the game.

Obviously this had something to do with playing the #1 team in the country at the time, but does anyone believe this would be repeated today? I don't. The big screen TV and little screen phone changed forever the way fans engage with a team. A sad casualty of the technology age.
