Now is the time to start pushing ticket package deals. At least start to discount the upper deck and horseshoe.

Totally agree with this....something like "free Iowa ticket for each new '23 season ticket purchase" or some special deal of $75 for one Iowa ticket vs. $100 for a season ticket for all remaining games including Iowa...

Plenty of ways you can make the upcoming game affordable while "cashing in" on the current excitement (as Illini fans we know it might not last).

Tickets, parking, concessions, beer, gas fuel in 80's were not like it is now, Simple! Also athletic department towards end of week would give tickets to Car dealers all over Illinois. They had a gimmick for putting butts in seats and it was a Blast.

Illini fans, literally every day since like 1993: "Gosh, do you know what I would give if we were just consistently competitive? I would be at the front of the line to fund the statue of the guy who can get us there!"

Illini fans, minutes after Bielema beats Wisconsin so bad they fire their coach: "Aw I ain't payin that"

I just got home and tried to buy 2 season tickets from the Illini Ticket office website. They list the prices, but there is no way to actually purchase them. I feel like i must be missing something, but I've been searching all over the site. Can only buy single game tickets. Seems like a big fail to not have that available.

If you're implying going 4-1 against this schedule counts as "consistently good " I'll disagree.

This just makes me long for ticket stubs … which, sadly, no longer exist.
Get paper tickets. When you order tickets from the Illinois ticket office on the internet, you can have them mail you paper tickets. I feel more secure than having them in my phone…and there’s the definite souvenir aspect.

I think you get paper tickets when you buy ticket s at the Assembly Hall.

yea , but a paper ticket printed on generic paper on your printer is not even close to the old cardboard ticket stubs

I was at the MSU game in 1999 after we won our first 3 non-con games. The crowd at MS was probably 55k as we were coming off a rough few years, but it was pretty loud and into the game. We had a couple false starts, then by 2001 we started selling out at 70k as people started believing.

I think we are at the 1999 MSU game stage right now. We are starting to bring back some fans, but there is still some lingering hesitation - I'd like to think we can get to 50k on Saturday but who knows. We win Saturday and we could get close to a sellout against Minny.

I've said this before, but there is an undercurrent of fan support that will explode if we string together a few good years. It's not realistic to expect OSU/UM/PSU type attendance or support, but it's not unrealistic to think we could attract similar crowds as MSU or Wisky if we can sustain some level of success
If you don't want to read a post that isn't about Iowa, stop reading this.

That '99 game against sparty was my very first Illini game with my grandfather and started my lifelong love of the beloved. I remember I rose up to go to the restroom at halftime only to feel a strong tug on my arm to sit down to watch the chief. This was one of the best moments of my childhood.
Plexico Burress killed us IIRC.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread, beat the s*** out of Iowa.

Thanks. That's what I assumed: '82.

Just for yuks, here's a photo from the 1979 Illio of a early-season 1978 game. I believe the IMPE pool at far right had a greater density of patrons that September afternoon ;). It's quite possible that we're looking at the infamous 0-0 tie with the Mildcats. That game, according to the photo caption, drew a season-low 40,091 fans. The season average was 46,678. MS capacity was 66,572 at the time.

The last time we bought season tickets it was $14, Block I—when it was a real thing—was on the 40 yard line East Main, when East was the home side. Kids and their activities, plus being 800 miles away, and on internet made it hard to even follow Illinois sports.

Retired now we ordered season tickets for 2020 and we know how that turned out. But we’re in West Balcony for what I consider great seats now, plus we give to I Fund. We put about 1700 miles on our car for every home game (except the two consecutive weekend home games where we take a one week weekend in between). We plan to take in two football games, a volleyball match, two women’s and I hope two men’s basketball games during one trip to the Old Country.

We have more Illini clothes and other stuff than I’m willing to admit. And lucky me, I was smart enough to marry my college sweetheart who just had her nails done in Orange for the Hail to the Orange Out game.

All that said, car dealers don’t lower prices on cars. They give rebates, spiffs, extras, whatever, to induce people buy cars. With a little bit of imagination, DIA can do that as well. Give aways for the first 20,000 people through the gate, for example. A pint beer glass printed costs $5(?) wholesale. Find a sponsor, Block I on one side, sponsor’s logo on the other. Don’t lower the price. Increase the value.

I have been a season ticket holder for over 35 years and the only real value for me is a good competitive football team. There is an inconsistent pricing structure for some Illinois football tickets. Horseshoe tickets for the Iowa game cost $75 each but these same tickets are 2 for $90 for the Minnesota and Purdue games. I have an idea why they are charging more for the Iowa tickets but for Illinois fans, it really makes no sense.

One thing that is very exciting is that we are in a breakout season. We will exceed expectations (how many here predicted a win in Camp Randall?). We won’t win them all but we will probably end up with 8 plus wins.

I was for Bielema from early on. We’ve needed an experience power 5 head coach who knows how to win the Big Ten. I would say he’s the first one since Mike White. We could have gotten lucky with a hot coordinator or MAC coach but that is a risky proposition.

IN JOSH WE TRUST!

I hope DIA wants your kids at the game, watching them play the best football they've played in over a decade, in front of a full stadium that's loud on a Saturday night. That's how you get more fans that want to keep coming back.
Good point, but maybe there should be a kid rate. When i was in grade school i’d go to Illini games at a special rate.

I concur with both of you. I got the season ticket famILLy 4 pack about 2 days before opening day by walking into the box office. I received printed paper tickets, I didn't even have to ask for them. Not cardstock, but better than digital.

Total was $449 including all taxes/fees. That was 4 season tickets and an entry level donation to the I-Fund (i.e. season parking pass included) for a grand total of $449. The price was too good to pass up at the time. I'm sure this package is sold out or no longer available since the season is nearly half over.
