Getting to watch any game with Kevin Harlan is an absolute treat but even more after the garbage we have gotten the last couple games.
Kevin Harlan is the absolute best announcer going, in my opinion.

This will be a good question for the offseason but I'm interested in how others will interpret the offensive explosion this year across the sport. For example, there are 15 team offensive efficiency scores in 2024 that are better than the very best 2006 offense. Also, there are four 2024 offenses with efficiency scores above 125.0 (Illinois, UConn, Purdue, and Bama), that is better than every single team offensive efficiency score from 2002 through 2014.
I wonder how much of an effect the change in how charges are called is having. I guarantee TSJ has benefited greatly from it and is not insignificant in our FT production.

Time to rest up and get focused on playing our game. Come out strong and play for 40 minutes and see where the chips fall. I think Illini win it.

If we score 84 against them, we didn't start slow and we're going to win. If they score 79 against us, we're going to get beaten in a frustrating way.
The Illini have started slow in several games only to heat up late in first half and totally explode in 2nd, yes they can score 84

Kevin Harlan is the absolute best announcer going, in my opinion.

He has the unique ability to make any contest he is announcing sound interesting and important. While he probably has no personal investment or fandom of the teams he is covering at any moment (there are so many for him)... he always exudes energy and explodes with exclamation when there is a score or great play of some kind. And it never sounds fake. That takes real broadcasting talent.

Lots of broadcasters try to do this but can’t seem to match it. Only a handful of the very best can do it (like that guy Andres Cantor who does that famous ‘GGOOOOOOOOLLL!’ call when he does soccer. Other soccer broadcasters try to match that same call but never can).

These guys just pull the viewer in to the telecast because it sounds so interesting. You can’t beat game knowledge tied along with enthusiasm.

Curious, am I’m just getting old or have they scheduled tourney games this year later than they used to? Tip off likely after 10:30pm eastern, won’t end til well after midnight. Seems unnecessarily late, especially for a weekday.

I just watched the replay of the isu vs. wsu game and I have some random thoughts that I thought i would share with my friends here........

Using the eye test in watching the replay , it seems that isu is vulnerable to drives to the bucket down the the paint.....and we have the premier player in TSJ doing just that.......wsu had no one near the talent of TSJ and had minor success doing it.....wsu's star player , Issac Jones , was a complete no show in this game ......I have watched him before and he is talented , but this game he was off the whole game.....

Was it isu's D ?????......hard to say as he had trouble with just the basic stuff , let alone elevated skill actions......Wells had the best game for wsu , but that was only in the first half as isu clamped down on him , so halftime adjustments were made to stop his scoring........

isu's main trait on D was to crowd the ballhandler with their body using their mid section to pressure the ball in a crowding motion and using their hands as a pressure stance, causing numerous errant passes by wsu...........one thing is apparent to me ......we are a lot more talented skill wise on O than wsu even hoped to be........So , are we gonna be sped up by the trapping D that isu uses ??........doubtful in my mind compared to wsu or other less talented teams than the Illini........people tend to forget how much the Illini have improved as far as the number of turnovers committed this year from the beginning of the season until now......

Also at issue is the number of fouls being called in the upcoming game........we have improved so much in our total fouls per game and it is not talked about enough , IMHO..........seems like BU has finally gotten through to the team about moving our feet on D and not using our hands to slow the opponent down......

It was clear to me that we need to monitor the freshman Momcilovic at all times and plan for his fade away shot as it seems that is about 75 % of his shots.....he also is their main 3 pt shooter.........Their guard Gilbert is a penetrator and must have had some serious acting lessons as he is a puke wannabe flopper of the nth degree.......Lipsey is their floor general and does a lot of good things , but still , at times , plays out of control.........

To me , it is going to boil down to ..............

1.........how the game is called ............duh.....
2.........how well we are shooting the 3 ....duh........
3.........can we control the boards..........duh..........
4........limit our turnovers to less than 10 for the game..........duh..........

the above items I listed holds true for most games played , especially in a single elimination tourney ........my best estimation on tomorrow night's game is.......................

Illini 80
isu 73

Probably the best D we will have faced this season .........but , no probably , we are the best O that isu will have faced this year.......we will have the talent advantage on them with our starting 5 stacked up next to their's..........and a lot was made about their bench play......well , welcome to the Illini bench of Dain , Goode , Harmon , DGL and Hansberry................

it should be an entertaining game , and please please please , no d j bald head ref , courtney " no nads " green and especially no white haired eric curry.....finally found his name out and he is a complete blind technical calling idiot......

LETS GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing - good find. I knew something wasn’t right - this year seemed excessively late and sure enough that is right. Wonder why they moved things back even more.

Some of my random thoughts on the game.

Our defense may be better if we either (1) switch everything like we did the second half against Nebraska, or (2) mix up the coverages on the PNR like we did at Maryland. As ISU is not a great 3pt shooting team, and until they prove otherwise, I don't think we need to fight through the screens to run them off the 3 point line. Switching everything limits their ability to penetrate, and we have size to make their shot over us pretty difficult.

Secondly, I think BU should start Dain. One way to get an early advantage in a one game single elimination tourney is to do something unexpected to make the other team scramble to make adjustments. If they double Marcus in the corner and push him baseline like they want to do, he would have either Dain open or QG in the far corner. This could be a Dain game. If they double and Marcus can get it passed back out, when we rotate it Coleman would probably have a 3 available from the top of the key or QG open in corner. Could also be a Goode game because we will get open threes. I also think QG and Ty could have a big game on the offensive boards - expect to see a couple of Quincy rebound dunks. Also, if Dain in and Ty not on the floor, Hawkins should stay available to help bring the ball up especially when he is playing the 5. His invisible friend has been AWOL a lot lately, so I think he could help avoid the pressure they are going to try and put on Marcus. Don't think we need to game plan anything for TSJ other than let him be TSJ.

Not sure we will have a lead at the half, but if we keep pounding eventually we will find the cracks in their defense and take advantage of them. I like our odds.

Final thought: the Sweet Sixteen if fine and all, but it is not much of a banner to show for how good these guys are. We really need to win this game.

Cutters. I'm hoping that we can get a lot of passes to guys cutting to the rim. IIRC, that was a big part of us tearing up NW's traps the first time we played them.
Yep, when they come to trap Marcus that leaves the lane open for somebody (TJ?) to cut through the lane.
