Guessing you are referring to the Zooker, as he is the Special Teams Coordinator.Yeah....he isn't the DC
Locks did him a solid in return for bringing him to FLA all those years ago and making him OC at Illinois. Locks and PSU's James Franklin were actually assistants together at Maryland 20 yrs ago.According to Maryland's football website, Zook is "Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach".
The difference between listening to coach BB compared to Lovie is astounding.......BB is on a par with coach BU as far as knowledge and the ability to express that knowledge in a fan friendly way.....
I had to chuckle during the off-season when Locksley hired him into that role. I just recall our special teams under him looking like a Benny Hill skit at times. Perhaps if that's his sole focus he won't bollocks it up! I have soft spot in my heart for RZ but he was not the man to manage a large football coaching staff and team.Guessing you are referring to the Zooker, as he is the Special Teams Coordinator.
Top 5 Illini head coaches I've had the pleasure to watch:ZOOK: I had to chuckle during the off-season when Locksley hired him into that role. I think he was the right guy to manage and the wrong guy to coach.I had to chuckle during the off-season when Locksley hired him into that role. Exactly the same for me but I would put Blackman ahead of Bielema until Bret shows a little bit more. Blackman is severely under rated in my opinion.Top 5 Illini head coaches I've had the pleasure to watch:
1. John Mackovic
2. Mike White (my personal favorite)
3. Bret Bielema
4. Bob Blackman
5. Ron Zook

What would we give for those kind of results now24-11-1 against Big Ten opponents other than Michigan and Ohio State.
Illinois running back Chase Brown grateful to return to field, end zone
"It felt really good," Brown said of reaching the end zone for the first time this year. "The biggest thing about that play is that if you go back andwww.stltoday.com
CHAMPAIGN — Chase Brown, like any player, doesn't like being on the sidelines, but that's exactly where he was during Illinois' 37-30 home loss to UTSA on Sept. 4. The sophomore running back dressed for warmups against the Roadrunners but was held out with an undisclosed injury.
"It was really cool seeing the guys get in there and do their thing because they were all really killing it, but it was hard because I want to play, I want to contribute," Brown said Tuesday. "When I'm sitting out like that, I just feel like I can't do anything for the team, but my whole thing was bringing energy to practice and making sure that we get good momentum going into the game."
Illinois has gotten off to slow offensive starts through its first three games, scoring a combined two points in the first quarter, but Brown believes the team is capable of replicating its third-quarter drive against Virginia earlier in games.
The key?
"Execution," Brown said. "Everybody doing their job, making sure we're sound offensively."
-----------------------------------------------------------
The way the D is playing execution has been a thought in my mind........lol......................Slant plays against us has been such a nightmarish dilemma........
Oh well, hopefully tomorrow night the only slant we see is an Illini win.....................GO ILLINI
My problem is offensively and defensively we seem to start slow. I credit this to a lack of identity and us not playing our game but the game that others allow us to have. I think if we get the ball first I am not confident we will score and build confidence as much as take away a possession later when we could build momentum in the second half. We’ve deferred a lot, which is my personal philosophy as well. But maybe we need to take the ball for once if we can, so our offense doesn’t come on the field down 7-0.
Add in Ron Turner (35-57; 0.380), whose record was Zookian. Tepper managed 46% and, apart from his final, cellar-dwelling year, kept us around the middle of the conference standings. That feeling when Ron Zook has the second best win % of our last 4 head coaches.
Ron Zook 34-51 .40
Tim Beckman 17-39 .30
Bill Cubit 5-7 .42
Lovie Smith 12-25 .32
Bret Bielema 1-2 .33
Exactly the same for me but I would put Blackman ahead of Bielema until Bret shows a little bit more. Blackman is severely under rated in my opinion.
we created the worst disaster of all, we replaced him with Gary Moeller. . .
