TIFWIW: heard through the grapevine that DeVito is fine and expects to play this weekend

I don't think it's that bad. I just think they are going to be extra cautious with a bye week upcoming and make sure he is 100% before he comes back. 60-40 Art this week.

Any chance BB throws both guys out there? Perhaps Art in early downs and maybe bring in Tommy on third and short situations where we know he excels.

We out-Wisconsin'd Wisconsin by winning in the trenches and establishing our run game.
We out-Iowa'd Iowa by shutting down their offense and relying on made FGs.

I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like to out-Minnesota Minnesota. I can only assume BB and staff are cooking up something good.
Let me just say it's Tuesday afternoon and I can't contain my disappointment that no one (to my knowledge) in this three-day-old thread has yet made a Caddyshack reference. I expect more, particularly from my middle-aged Loyalty brethren. ;)

I'm at work and without my GIF library. If I were able, in order to illustrate this metaphorically, I'd insert footage of groundskeeper Carl Spackler diligently inserting plastic explosives into the labyrinth of gopher burrows beneath Bushwood Country Club, and then detonating them.

Licensed to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. A man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

Let's hope that Lunney & Walters really study the film this week.

So logical. Fits the conservative Bielema profile. And it's a particularly smart choice if the staff feels we can still steal a "W" with:
- A super strong Defense
- The #1 rusher in the NCAA, and
- Artur

If Tommy can go Tommy goes....but he is in a walking boot.
The frustrating reality: it is totally imperative for the continued success of the season that all necessary decisions are made to maximize the number of snaps TDV takes relative to Art this season. And the nature of ankle injuries' vulnerability to getting reaggravated as well as our schedule means that you absolutely have to start Art even if TDV could potentially give it a go, probably condemning us to a loss on Homecoming in our first game as a ranked team in a decade.

Nobody said it was gonna be easy.

Let's hope it's not still touch-and-go for Nebraska, because that would be a much more difficult call to make, with the same downside risk.

I was actually proud of the group that the references have been kept to a minimum. We do play them two to three times a year in the revenue sports after all.

If Tommy can walk without the boot he will tape the ankle up and play. He is a good college QB, but I don't see him playing on Sundays after graduation.
This is his last season so he will want play in every game.

Although he is a good runner I hope Barry stops calling running plays for him. Last game showed we can't afford to lose him. No more QB draws or bootlegs (unless he commits to pass 90% of time and if he runs he has to slide to stop).

With Tommy playing but focusing on the running game and getting rid of the ball quickly my crystal balls says

Illinois 17
Minnesota 13

Our defense is able to contain the Minnesota running attack and we don't have 3 turnovers.

If I'm not mistaken, Minnesota is a 6.5 point favorite at this point. Our Defense has been a brick wall, so they would need to be able to score to beat us by 6 points. I get that they are a bit better than we have seen, but they haven't seen anyone close to our Defense. With TDV or Art, our Defense and Special Teams will win this game. To be bowl eligible in mid-October, no one on here thought that would be possible. Dang it's a fun time to be an Illini fan!

Good takes but, after last week I'm not so sure that kicking/special teams are a MN advantage.
Good point, not much credit is being given to our Aussie punter who suddenly had a very Blake-like game (light came on moment, I hope) and new FG kicker who can at least hit the shorter ones under some pretty heavy mental, game on the line pressure.

I sure miss kick offs into the end zone though. Someone is going to break one on us before long. Get well quick, Caleb so at least you can kick off again.

If Minnesota is as good as the metrics say, they should be firing on all cyclinders Saturday. They are coming off a bye week, coming off a tough loss, and will want revenge from last year's game @Minnesota. I'd be shocked if they aren't ready to play.

But are the metrics accurate, or overrating them?
