I'm hoping this plays out like the Iowa game in 1983: we go in THINKING "we're actually pretty good this year," and come out KNOWING we are. (For you youngins, that's when we stomped no. 4 Iowa 33-0 on our way to the 9-0 BigTen season.)
If I'm remembering right at the end of that game Iowa was knocking on the door trying to break the shutout and our D put up a mighty stand play after play to keep them out of the NEZ. Did I get that about right?

I'm gonna let Heady Betty decide where it ends up at.

Well I tried to get the inside scoop on TDV’s playing status for tomorrow. I was in the security line at the airport leaving Austin this morning, and k got into a conversation with the couple in front of me, who had on Illinois football clothes. Not something you see often in Austin. They said they were on their way to Champaign for the game, that their son was on the team. I knew right away they had to be referring to Casey Washington, from nearby Pflugerville. So in the course of our conversation I asked if they were free to divulge any information on Davito‘s status. They said he has been in a boot, but he has been taking reps in practice. Ok, things I had already heard. But one takeaway was the dad was pretty relieved to hear about his participation in practice and thought TDV would be playing. For what tha’s worth, just thought I’d share it with the community. I wouldn’t take this to the bank and place any bets based on this, but it makes me think it’s possible he would play, because if he was definitely out I would think Casey would know that and would have shared that with his parents.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois football enters a pivotal game in the Big Ten West race with a lot of roster unknowns for the first time since the season kicked off.
With a matchup against Minnesota (Saturday 11 a.m. Big Ten Network) that features the top two scoring defenses in the country, as well as two of the top four teams in the division, Illinois (5-1, 2-1) might need to count on some reinforcements.
Multiple starters either were injured or had to be scratched right before the Illini’s 9-6 win over Iowa last weekend. Quarterback Tommy DeVito and top receiver and St. Louisan Isaiah Williams were two of the biggest losses. Starting corner Taz Nicholson went out with a concussion as well.

Nicholson and Williams (Trinity Catholic) have made progress, while Illinois hasn’t tipped its hand on DeVito just yet. Linebacker Isaac Darkangelo will be back, according to Illinois coach Bret Bielema. Kicker Caleb Griffin will be out, so Fabrizio Pinton will take field goal duties while Will McManus will handle kickoffs.
“Isaiah (Williams) has been really good. He’s actually got practice in. We’re going to be able to see him, I think for sure,” Bielema said. “Taz has continued to track in the right direction. Tommy, don’t know. That’s going to have to be something, we don’t want to make sure we make a decision on the front end here that can affect something long term.”

Well dang, game day is finally here. I expect Illini to win in what could be a tough battle. However, if they don’t come out on top, I’ll keep the excuses and disappointment to a minimum. Illini are headed in the right direction, and a loss here won’t change that. Come out of this game with no major injuries, and win or lose this session will still have the makings of a special season. And not just because of the win/loss record, but because we could be seeing the start of a return to relevancy that can be sustained.

All that said, let’s beat dem Gophers.

Now that's insider type of stuff --- thanks for sharing!

(Although, I still feel Art is our guy today. The "conservative principal" dictates that Bret will give Tommy D 3 weeks off in order to preserve him for the final 5-6 weeks of the season, plus the Bowl game.)
