Whether we like it or not, we are officially the "bad guys" of this game in the eyes of the vast majority of CFB fans. Just the way it's gonna be.

Well then, say hello to...

Wonder if the team wears their ‘gray ghosts’ uniform. Sounds like a pirate if that will be a theme.

Mississippi State is promoting DC Zach Arnett to full time coach

Mississippi State has agreed to terms to promote defensive coordinator Zach Arnett to head coach, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. He will replace Mike Leach, who died Monday night.

Arnett agreed to a four-year deal that has yet to be signed but is expected to be formalized in the upcoming days, sources said.

I really hate when we have to play teams that have huge emotional motivation....Bear Bryant in the 1982 Liberty Bow, Virginia this year and now, Mississippi St. I'm sure I'm missing quite a few more.
I was at the LB in 82. BB looked to be just a figure head to me, it will forever be that his last game was a victory against Illinois.
He was already dying and would be dead four weeks later.

Such a hard game to predict. So many intangibles due to so many emotions coming into the game. Also many variables due to who will play and who won't. I think UI has an excellent chance to win, but it is so hard to predict.

December 11 - I have not seen anything more recent.

.......Illinois practiced for the third time Saturday before its annual year-end banquet at the IHotel in Champaign. Several Illini will likely face opt-out decisions, most notably potential first round draft pick Devon Witherspoon. He was rated the 24th-best prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft by Mel Kiper Jr. this week. Both senior captains Alex Palczewski and Sydney Brown said they will respect whatever decision their teammates make, with even Brown thinking about sitting out.

“It’s extremely hard because I don’t want to be selfish,” Sydney Brown said. “I’m a captain of this team and there’s nothing I want more than to do than to be here for this program and the guys on this team. I’d do anything for this program and I don’t feel like I’ve made a selfish decision yet. At the end of the day I’ve got to do what’s best for me.”.....

Speaking of bowl games , I just spent an enjoyable hour watching the 12/29/2010 Texas Bowl victory over the baylor bears and rg3...........

Plenty of familiar names and performances which brought a smile to my face , as did the 38-14 win...........

I hope we can get another bowl win this season and add to the rise of Illini FB.........LET'S GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the replays - some of my favorite football games to watch

2007 Juice Williams leads us to 28-21 win at Ohio State getting us to Rose Bowl
1999 Kurt Kittner leads us to win 35-29 vs Tom Brady at Michigan
1993 Johnny Johnson leads us to 24-21 win at Ann Arbor

Remember being extremely hyped for Milines and then he was just gone from the team after fizzling.

His last victory, tainted, however, by two uncalled late hits on Eason bringing Kris Jenner to infamy with two passes thrown for two interceptions.

yea, the refs had their thumb on the scale for Bear Bryant in that game. I recall watching it. Pretty sure it was a Wed night. Two good buddies of mine went to Memphis via train and froze there butts off there. Wasnt the temps there in low-mid 20's that night ?

Yes, I was at that game with my brother and 2 friends. Drove there from Illinois. Froze our b***s off. Very damp and cold. We went down for some refreshments before the game and saw the limo pull up with BB. He and some attendants walked right passed us. He looked very ill. I believe he passed shortly after this game was played. And yes, two obvious late hits on Eason when the team was driving toward a touchdown. Followed by an interception which changed the outcome of the game. The luck of the Illini. 😥

ESPN app shows the line now at Illini - 2 pts, while their Matchup Predictor shows Miss St 54% probability to win. I think this means it's a close game on paper.

Really hard to predict what could happen. Coaching changes on both teams and players sitting out. Either or both teams could look very different than they did during the regular season. I’m not much of a betting person, but I wouldn’t want to put any money on this game.

Bowls are kinda going back to the glorified exhibitions they were back in the old old days.

I think it was Matt Stevens that called it a glorified spring practice game. I’d agree except there is enough money on the table that it has to be worth the fans attention.

Mississippi State alum here. State will be fired up for the game for sure. OTOH, we always enjoyed Coach Bilema (?) when he was at Arkansas, always thought he was somewhat of a character as well. He seemed to have bad luck at Arky and lost a lot of games that could have gone either way. Looking forward to a good competive game and agree it could go either way. It may be one of the more entertaining bowl games. Good luck.
