I’m kinda diggin’ this Bayesian rating system, and thought it would be interesting to use it to forecast matchups.

Mizzou’s top guys are:
Offense
Carter (6’6” 235), East (6’3” 180), Bates (6’5” 195)
Defense
Vanover (7’5” 230), Nobody (haha!)

If Coleman can pull the Lanky Lumberjack out of the post, or we can get him into foul trouble, they do not seem able to guard much at all.

Team national rankings: Illinois #12, Missouri #79

Highlighted rows are offensive rating, defensive rating, combined rating (rank column is how the players stack up within their respective conferences)…

Thanks for the data source, AZ! Made me want to take a peek inside our season so far.

For context, I was curious what the team's threshold might be in terms of starting lineups and win/loss.

And it basically boils down to this. Every team IL has played that has a Collective Starting Lineup Score (CSLS) of less than 26, IL has won.

Collective Starting Lineup Scores (CSLS): Illinois 22.1

Top IL Opponents CSLS:

Marq - 26.85 (L)
Tenn - 26.8 (L)
Kansas - 25.81 (W)
FAU - 24.39 (W)

All other teams IL has played (and beat) this season have a CSLS of less than 26 (and usually far less). The rest of the season (based on current projections) IL will play 1 team with a CSLS higher than 26 in Purdue (33.81?!).

Top Big Ten CSLS
Purdue - 33.81
Ohio St - 22.98
Mich St - 22.21
Wisc - 19.83
Ind - 17.5

Technically, going just by this stat, Illinois has #4 starting lineup in the conference (although its very close with 3 teams with a score of between 22-23). But the reality is, IL has played well when punching above its weight. This has a chance to be a very special season. It's clear Purdue is head and shoulders above the rest, but if IL can split the head-to-head, championship aspirations become very real.

In terms of Braggin Rights: Miznoz has a CSLS of 15.98. Closest comparable game is Rut at 13.15. So playing Miz will be greater than Rutgers, but less than Indiana or any other upper echelon B10 team. This should be a win.

Score prediction: IL - 76 Miz - 67

Just went out in the drizzle to get the mail. In Illinois gear, I brought a basketball and took a free throw. Pure. Took another. Pure again. Took another. Pure again. Again, and the same. Came back inside. That's gotta be good, or a good omen, right? (I'm 64, and a mediocre player.)

Are you available to suit up? I'm sure they can find an Orange and Blue uni that'll fit 'ya. Got any eligibility left? If not, can you fake some? Are you an Every Day Guy? Do you have an intense dislike for the Team Across the River? Can you shoot well when it isn't raining? If so...

I’m sure Coach U can find a good use for you.

I went in 1988-9. Old checkerdome, sold out, both bands there, students from both schools there.

The Flying Illini pressed full court and came back from 16 point deficit to win. That was first time we know that team would be special.

Pound the paint and penetrate. If you have to pass, pass deeper into the paint.
Few if any 3 point shots
Thanks for postinig!!!!

Thanks, all!

On another note, have they stopped setting sections aside for students at Braggin’ Rights?? I’m watching the 1988 replay on BTN, and it seems like there is a clear student section behind the basket - something I remember on TV watching it growing up. However, I don’t really remember that recently.

Living in NOLA, I can't get the Illini pre and postgame shows over the air, so I have always used the tune-in app to stream WDWS. For the last couple of days all I get for WDWS is an 'error steam' message. Anyone else use tune-in and having issues with WDWS stream??

Can't speak for Tune In specifically, but I believe WDWS should have a free live stream on their website.

I think Tune In has a specific Illinois feed. Try searching sports and Illinois.

Congrats! But... your looking down upon your new little one and softly whispering ‘I - L - L’ and expecting the young soul to respond right away with an ‘I - N - I!’ might be just a bit too ambitious for the day. (Wait until at least NEXT week and THEN try it!...)
