According to the math on TeamRankings.com we have a 24% chance to make the tourney as of now. 36% chance if we get 20 wins and it jumps all the way to 72% chance of we win 21. Need to finish the year 12-8 to feel good about ourselves. MizNoz on the other hand...1% chance

Most of those computer based prediction models use results from the past year or two until its January or February so I wouldn't look too much into the percent chance they give teams to make the tournament. If we play to our talent level continue to play how we have he past several weeks we'll be fine.

I have the unfortunate opinion that this game will be closer than it should be. Missouri obviously is not good, but played Xavier tough the whole game, losing by 1, and then Arizona tough through 3/4 of the game. Puryear and Hughes are definitely their best players, while Phillips is a veteran guard. It looks like one of Jaylon Tate's former teammates at Simeon, Russell Woods, a senior, plays for Mizzou. Never really heard of him until I looked at their roster. The biggest key to the game IMO is keeping our foot on the gas. We've obviously really struggled with that when we have had opportunities to put teams like Winthrop and BYU away. We definitely need to keep pounding it inside to Thorne, Mav, and Black, because as mentioned on here before, they've got very little size. One of Thorne or Mav should put up 15-20 points with double digit boards. Hill should also be able to feast, like last year's rivalry game. As long as we dont shoot like 20 percent and allow them to gain confidence, we should win relatively easily. Because its a rivalry game, I expect it to be relatively close.

Looking to buy tickets tonight... anybody know which 'side' Illini fans will be on?!

The 103 - 115 side has traditionally been the Illini section at the Scottrade Center.

I can see it just fine. Doesn't make me think it's any less weak that this is the whole story behind a long used insult attempt at the team.

Then your funny meter is broken. Because when a Missouri fan is holding a sign upside down that is supposed to spell out the name of a place of learning, thus misspelling said place of learning, I call that funny-as-hell irony.

But, of course, now I've explained the joke and it's no longer funny :D

I don't think you understood my point...

I happen to love that picture. Being from the stl area makes it even more fun for me. I make it my temporary Facebook profile pic every year.

I'm just trying to figure out why someone WOULDN'T get it.

Color me misunderstood. Let us laugh at Missouri together.

Not sure about the Xavier game, but IIRC Arizona played their game with something like 7 scholarship players. Could be wrong, but I thought that I read that before the U of A - Miznoz game.

You're right, I was at that game. Mizzou couldn't shoot it into the ocean that day and Arizona shot something like 70% from three. Either way, Mizzou's bigs besides Purryear are going to get absolutely manhandled by Thorne and Mav, they are razor thin. Purryear and Black is actually an intriguing matchup because Purryear is a pretty versitile player but tends to think hes a better perimeter player than he actually is.

Besides Phillips and Hughes their guards aren't good, Geist is a transfer from JuCo and has potential to be decent down the line but is lacking athleticism, again wouldn't be surprised if he had a big game because..well..Illinois.

It makes me so sad what the crowd for this event (this used to be an EVENT) has become. I'm optimistic that we can have a solid Illini turnout (it only takes like 10,000 to pretty much fill our side, right?), but I expect a tiny MU turnout. Hopefully we beat the heck out of them in front of a sea of Orange. :p

It is sad seeing empty seats, but the atmosphere has still been very fun the past couple years. Unfortunately, the ticket prices just don't match the quality right now. $60+ to watch us play a garbage team is kind of crazy when I could go to 2 or 3 B1G games for that price. But I'm going anyway because like I said, the atmosphere is awesome.

Just a few years ago this game would be sold out on ticketmaster within minutes and you would be lucky to get a ticket on a 3rd party site for less than $90.

I went to the game three years ago when Ray won on the buzzer beater. Bought 4 tix for $25 outside right as the game started. Not worth $60 a pop.

Seem to remember that this game used to be at prime time and on ESPN...now it's at 6 on the 3rd or 4th level ESPN..both programs have fallen the last few years---here's hoping that the Illini's path is trending back up!

NOTE: The game was played at St. Louis Arena (varying capacity between 17,188 and 17,968 during that timeframe) until 1994-95, when it was moved to the current Scottrade Center.

Definitely been a streaky series! Whole lot of little numbers next to our name during this timeframe. :) Let's make it four in a row tonight and continue to dominate this rivalry.

Given the current state of both programs, it's shocking to see that four years ago Illinois went into the game ranked #10 and Mizzou #12. Hard times for two historically excellent programs. I guess I'm glad their nadir has coincided with ours. If we're bad, I damn well want them to be worse.

Groce previews Mizzou-

Groce: Having a chance to look at BYU tape in detail, thought we played well. Feast or famine on a lot of possessions.

Groce: Thought we did some really good things. Some where ball movement was stagnant. Made some defensive mistakes.

Groce: Pretty good in practice yesterday. Just okay today.

Groce: With this game, both teams play with a lot of enthusiasm. Want to stay true to who we are. Have to play within team framework

Groce: Terrance Phillips was good against us last year. Big game against Xavier. Gets going in transition.

Groce: Think Kevin Puryear is a very underrated player. A post that can handle. Really good on the glass.

Groce: Know that in a game like this, guys can play at another level. Sometimes this game brings that out of you.

Groce: These have been highly-contested battles. Every possession matters. Both teams play with tremendous energy & effort.

Groce: Older team helps to understand that last games in this rivalry don't matter tomorrow. Saturday's win doesn't matter tomorrow.

Groce: Finke has been playing really well for two weeks. Then made shots on Saturday. But he's been doing other things well too.

Groce: Will be off on the 22nd & 23rd. Will practice on 24th, 25th & 26th to get ready for B1G opener at Maryland.

Just looked at the programming for tomorrow night. Not that i care, but ESPN chose to broadcast Elon and Duke on ESPN2 rather than the Bragging Rights game. Makes complete sense to me. :hurl:
