I’m very sad to report that I won’t be able to see the cultural puzzler school board in action at Gibbs Memorial State this Friday night.

Errrr…uh sorry…Keys Memorial Stadium.

That entire interaction from fan to family of the coach is way below the belt and unacceptable in every form.

However, this type of thing feels inevitable considering how cursed that coaching role has become.
Last year, he talked about how he wanted to smack a kid who was a Michigan fan.

Tensions are just boiling.

Really? We won 4 over 13 years in a time when 50 teams played and the sport was just "run the ball and win 7-0". That is not impressive. Our 1951 title isn't even consensus. Saying "won ours over 5 decades" is such a misleading comment.

Nebraska's title run in the 90's is one of the best title runs in the history of college football.
I think he was taking the “Illini Apologist” angle rather than being 101% serious, and I’m ALL for it!!

I like to think of Frank Solich seeing this on his social media feed, then snuggling up in his College Football Hall of Fame jacket, rolling over, and drifting back into a deep, untroubled sleep.
Yes indeed. Nearly 40 years of Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne created a fan base that couldn't stomach a single 0.500 season. Firing Solich at that time (~ '01) was an egregious own-goal.

Absolutely. It was a short-sided move thinking that they should be winning national championships consistently. They had one down year the year before he was fired (2002), but in 2003 when he was fired after the regular season, the team was 9-3 (apparently losing to Kansas State at home was the unforgiveable last straw). It was the first time a coach was fired after finishing with at least 9 regular season wins due solely to team performance.

They then followed up two coaches later firing Pelini (who never finished a season in Lincoln with less than 9 wins). Those are two firings that look worse and worse with every subsequent head coach they bring in. Any new head coach is cursed immediately walking in because of the unrealistic expectations from a rabid fanbase. They have won 9 or more games only one time in the twelve seasons since firing Pelini, and it does not look like it will change anytime soon.

i wonder if some of Washington's unwillingness to scramble was more "business decision" than great Illinois defensive scheme. certainly not discounting what we did on defense, only pointing out that Washington may be more concerned about next year's NIL than this year's W-L record. doubt that'll be the case with Colandrea.
I'm sorry, but I don't think athletes playing a game they love ever have thoughts like that during game action, JMHO.

I actually get a kick out of interpreting some the "voice-to-text" messages I receive from my wife. And she talks a lot.
