String of home game sellouts dating back to 1962 or something like that...even in lean years

Yes. The Cornhusker State is very proud of that. That streak has been in peril a time or two in recent years with the team looking so poorly... but they manage to keep it going even if warm bodies are not always in all the seats.

There is something to be said for a shared rallying interest like sports for a State. The closest thing for the State of Ilinois is the Illini Basketball program. Baseball fans are divided amongst the Sox, Cubs, and Cards. Much of the State doesn't care about the Bears or Bulls or Blackhawks. But with the legacy success for so many past years of the Illini roundballers they represent the State well and can bring it together in ways the other teams haven't. (Even with some possible resistance in pockets of the CIty of Chicago).

If the Bears ever got their act together they would pick up a lot of interest around the State that has drifted away for so many years.

So much of the State of Illinois wants and craves to see great success from the Illini footballers. That's an untapped resource ready to break open.

While incredibly impressive and considering I would give ANYTHING for our fan base to have the passion of Nebraska's ... this has also been "propped up" by donors being huge swathes of tickets for several years, just to keep the streak going.
And we kept a sellout streak alive in the 80s with five dollar tickets on sale at grocery stores. And that was in a 76,000 seat Memorial Stadium.

To those following this series (though I can't blame anyone for losing interest in it...I am a little bit), sorry for the delay. Here is the Sellout Watch ticket tracker for Nebraska tonight. Tracker is showing an estimated 43,416 tickets sold. As usual, there are some conservative assumptions baked in there, but also some increasingly aggressive assumptions as it relates to the student tickets, which assumes the NEZ gets sold out. I'll just stick with the tracker output as my official attendance guess: 43,416.

Coming in for my first game in over 10 years, my crew is planning on hitting up a bar on green street before the game, is there any parking areas up there anyone could recommend or somewhere between green and memorial that would work?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we haven’t lost to Nebraska in either football or basketball in the 2020’s. I say we keep that streak going.
The faith(a belief than remains strong in the face of observed facts)runs deep in this one.

Thank you! An unfortunate but more-than-understandable drop after the 2-3 start and with the game being on a Friday.

For years we’ve parked in lot F4 at NW corner of Springfield and Goodwin, a free lot after hours and weekends. It’s a 1.5 mile walk to the stadium. As a bonus, along the way you can catch the Marching Illini‘s march down 4th from the Armory 45 minutes before kickoff.

By the time you’re back at your car there’s zero traffic. Escape N on Goodwin, R on University, L on Lincoln, and you’re on I-74 in minutes. I’d rather walk than sit in traffic.

I like and appreciate these. While I can understand you may be losing interest in doing this, I hope you continue posting them.

I find with this particular team, I must adopt a more existential posture in my response and emotion to the play on the field. I fear if I blindly embrace the hope of a victory, I would constantly allow some one else to determine my sense of self and position in the cosmos.

That being said....

Go Illini.
