So...will they be inspired on the 29th, flat, or will it make no difference?

Below average talent on the road can only conjure up so much "inspiration."

This will be an evenly matched football game, an as such, breaks could swing the outcome wildly. I could see a 24 point win for either squad.

You think we can score 24 points? Does the defense kick field goals too?

Here I was reading along with Glory Days and agreeing with his posts, then all of a sudden I see this and I'm like

From what I have seen, it'll take a lot of breaks to even reach 24 points, let alone achieve that margin of victory

I like the way this game shapes up. Nebraska gets a win and they will not be so desperate on Friday.

Our defense needs a big game. Their QB is prone to interceptions and their OL not the best. Pressure, pressure, pressure. Need a pick 6.

Pressure sounds good. I'm also hoping for a good punt return by Dude-K and a nice kickoff return. Still debating George or Crouch to start, but luckily, the coaches make that decision. :)

Rutgers demonstrated that this game is so, so winnable.

Rutgers demonstrated that this game is so, so winnable.

Coincidentally, those are the two teams we most need to beat this year for the rebuild to stay on track. Now that we have seen them as the two other weakest teams in the B1G, win those two and anything else is gravy!

I know this is selfish of me but I am so curious to see what cam Thomas has that I wish they would give him the nod. Granted, I don't see him at practice so maybe he's really just not ready. But I think this season is still salvageable and with good QB play there are plenty of winnable games left. I get that we want to keep his redshirt, but we have three QBs committed in next years class. If Cams ready, I wish they'd let him go

More motivation. Being disrespected in our own place. Friday night should be fun.

This is a very winnable game. Legit shot to start off 3-1 and after that 3 more wins to bowl contention

Probably not a lot of high school kids coming to this. And unless you use a half day of vacation, or have a understanding boss, no getting over early to tailgate if you work till 5 and live out of town. That being said, I think Illinois stands a great chance of a win Friday with two weeks to prepare.

I'm taking a half day. I don't tailgate but I live in the Chicago area so there is no way I could leave at 5, battle rush hour traffic and get to the game in time.

I'll be interested to see how well Nebraska travels for this game. They must have brought around 15,000 fans to the game in 2015. I've never seen anything like it. Ohio State is the only other school that comes close to bringing that many fans.

With this being a Friday game and them having a down year I wouldn't expect them to bring as many fans.

I didn't see the game, but in looking at the box score the one thing that stood out was that Rutgers had no sacks. Considering that Nebraska had given up 5 sacks in previous 2 games and that Rutgers only had 3 sacks in previous 3 games, I have to think the no sacks was more about Rutgers pass rush than Neb. offensive line play. Think that bodes well for the Illini's defensive line on Friday.

Not happy about this game on a Friday. College football should stay on Saturdays. I realize a whole herd of horses are out of the barn on this one, but wish My Team would take a stand and preserve Fridays for high school games!

Crawford will be available for the game but Odenbigo is no long on the roster according to Lovie's presser?

Sounds like Dre Brown, Corbin and Boyd are getting healthier. It will be interesting to see if Kramer is available on Friday as well.

Lovie previews Nebraska

Lovie: Last year played Nebraska well for majority of game but didn't finish.

Lovie: Offensive players get 77 decals on helmets (Red Grange). Defensive players get 50 decals (Dick Butkus)

Lovie: James Crawford will be available. Definitely one of the best players on our team.

Lovie: Vederian Lowe got plays in last week. Reggie Corbin gotten in at plays. Almost at full speed.

Sounds optimistic on Larry Boyd.

Lovie: Dre Brown is healthy. Heading in the direction of being 100 percent ready to go.

Lovie: Early on last week, had training camp practices, focusing on fundamentals. Also gave players time off to get healthy.

Lovie: Think we can be a good team. Now, it's about how we come back from a big loss

Not gonna get much out of Lovie on QBs, as expected.

Lovie: We hope to see improvement from QB, Mike linebacker, cornerback, all the positions and coaching.

Lovie: Offensively, I see Nebraska committed to the run. They're more traditional running attack. Pocket-passing QB

Lovie: Defensively, Nebraska is hard-nosed, know what they're doing, physical on point of attack.

Lovie: Dorsey "everything you're looking for in a young tight end." Not a great blocker yet but matchup problem in passing game

Lovie: "I think he's a weapon we need to use more often."

Lovie: One thing you can say about Jeff George Jr. is he's consistent throughout whether he gets reps or not.

Lovie: One thing you can say about Jeff George Jr. is he's consistent throughout whether he gets reps or not.

Lovie: JG has a great arm and is confident. Doesn't get too high or low. Blends in with team well.

I followed up on if he still is relief hitter. "No changes have been made."

Lovie: Jeff has been our relief hitter.

Lovie: Tito Odenigbo not on team roster right now. "Still on football team, I will say that."

Lovie on protests: There are guys taking a stand on what they feel is right in our country.

Lovie on protests: There are guys taking a stand on what they feel is right in our country.

Lovie: "Is our president a role model? ...I think there are certain things you'd expect him to say, some you'd expect him not."

Lovie: For this many people to take a stand against something, something is wrong.

Lovie said to change this, you vote. He voted for a "certain person" because of that. Teaches players to have opinions, be educated.

Lovie: Some of us are role models? We expect our athletes to be role models. Are you holding our leaders to that?

Lovie: Is it OK for someone to call another American those names? Is it? To me it's not.

Lovie: We don't come out for national anthem. We won't change what we do.

Lovie: What's happening right now is wrong.

Lovie: St. Louis is an area need to do well in. We need to recruit that area. Have two freshmen starters from there.

Lovie: Important for us to play and be televised nationally to show what our young team can do. Big opportunity this week.

OC Garrick McGee reiterated that the QB depth chart has not changed.

OC Garrick McGee said freshman OL Vederian Lowe will play.

Man this looks like such a winnable game. Illinois should have an advantage coming off of their bye week. If you win this one you can start fantasizing about getting to six wins and a bowl, something I did not think was possible for this group. Probably thinking more with my heart than my head here. Illinois 17, Nebraska 14.

I would think it's not in Lovie's job description to provide soundbites on political topics, and if I were in his position I'd punt.

Why? Please explain.

Lovie has talked about his perspective on the national anthem protests before and he's said many times that he talks to his players about what's going on in the world.

He's the leader of many young black men that have chosen him to be their paternal figure for at least the next few years of their lives. He has every right to state what the majority of them are feeling. And if you actually listen to what he says, he says nothing controversial. He's an Ex superbowl NFL coach, he can do as he pleases.

Before the season began, I thought the Nebraska game would be the true test that shows how much we have improved over last year. The freshmen have had a chance to acclimate, we've had a bye week to get ready, and Nebraska is not as good as predicted. I like our chances. However, after seeing the improvement of Purdue and Indiana, getting to 6 wins is going to be a major challenge.

Figured the USF game would make all the yoyo's do there thing. We should win this game, not because it's a home game, our defense is as good as there's and we have something to prove. Illini 31-10.
