Anyone help me out for this game? I got a bunch of tickets for my family but have never parked for a football game. Is there an official way to purchase a pass/ can I just get into a lot day of/ should I just buy a pass from stubhub?

Thanks in advance

Parking Lot Fees
Many lots are pass only lots. There are some lots available for game day purchase. These lots are Lot 44, 46, 47, 49 and the lots in Research Park. Parking fees for these lots are $20 per automobile in advance, or $25 on game day. Automobiles with pull behinds are allowed in Lots 47 and 49 for $40 in advance, or $50 on game day. Recreational vehicles/motor homes may park in Lot 33 for $40 in advance, or $50 on game day. All transactions will be cashless.

Do you think covid will keep Ohio State or Clemson from selling out?

I don't think you intended it as a serious question, but I'm going to respond anyway. From my non-expert understanding, the evidence on outdoor spreading is very different from indoor. Ventilation seems to have a huge impact on reducing the risk. I imagine every fan is different in how they evaluate their desire to go vs the risk of covid, but I suspect those programs have more passionate fans that will take the risk, or rationalize it away.

The Illini Pella Sports Talk podcast is a terrific source of Illini information. I just found out that I can add it to my podcast app, so I'm very excited.

They talked to the Nebraska play by play announcer and he was saying that they brought in some really good wide receivers in the off-season. That makes me a little bit worried about this game, especially if it's going to be a warm day. I'm not sure if Illinois has the depth to maintain coverage.

Their D line is supposed to be a strength. It will be a good test for Illinois's O line.

I can't wait for the season to start!

Does not change what he said. "For every 3 or 4 families that decide to go, 1 decides not to..." or something like that.

Assume that is true. At Illinois you might currently have a pool of 50K or so people that really want to go to the game. If 20% of people decide not to attend, you have 40K at the game.

At OSU or Clemson, who knows how much demand there is. Could they sell 250K seats if they had the stadium to do it? Regardless, if 20% of people decide not to attend, it won't impact what you see on Saturdays because the baseline is so much higher that demand still exceeds available supply. Doesn't mean some people aren't changing their plans.

What else would you like/expect after a Covid year with financial losses across the board in the DIA?

I don't know. Not local/no-name cover bands, I guess. I'm just tired of the mediocrity. 'Grange Grove' is this little grassy lot thats usually mud and overrun by people toting in their own Coors lite 24 packs. It's who we are but I hate to see it celebrated. Call it a bad mood. Illinois football is a big deal to me and the gameday experience (IMO) is so bad that I go once a year and then go back to watching it on TV if possible. It's just not a great experience unless you donate 10K to the iFund and get invited to a box or the donor tent.

Bro, they are bringing in one of the Top DJs in CU for the last game. ONE OF THE *TOP*. Pre-game entertainment just doesn’t get better than that.

Sarcasm aside, the tailgating talent isn’t going to make any difference in attracting fans. Winning football will.

The first day single tickets went on sale I was the first call they received. Got two tickets and a Research parking pass. They use to give towels or Hail to the Orange flags. Will get their early to watch the ILLINIWALK. Looking forward to a new season with new hope for the Fighting Illini! I am glad we are not playing Toledo, Kent State, or Eastern on the first game. I noticed that all the hotel rooms were sold out several weeks ago. Go ILLINI!

That, plus this year the website says they are opening lots 2.5 hours before the game and kicking you out 1.5 hours after the game. GET OFF OF OUR LAWN!!!

Isn't this the kind of stuff Robert used to complain about with our gameday staff?

Any idea where ticket sales are for this game?

Season tickets holders + single game as of now?

When do students get back to buy student tickets?
As of Saturday morning, it would be in the low (I think) 30s. Student season tickets are ahead of pace, partly due to freshman class last year not getting to go to any games and typically the freshman class is the biggest purchasing class of season tickets.

Oh to be young and optimistic about Illini Football again.

They need to be on the quad giving away free tickets and a bus to the game this week. They have to find a way to get students there. Maybe a no attendance required class credit?!

If we weren’t seeing the delta variant surge maybe it’d be more packed. Or maybe there will be a lot of game time walk ups.

Or maybe it’s Illinois football. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I didn’t live out in Cali I’d definitely be there.

Agreed, I would absolutely kill to be there. Unfortunately, it's my fiance's mom's birthday, and we have plans in Chicago that I am VERY much expected to be a part of... :)

I completely understand why we might have a small crowd, with us coming off of firing yet another coach, Nebraska fans down on their program, the game being a full week before the rest of the season starts and some people avoiding it due to COVID-related reasons ... but man it would be nice for the first full-capacity college football game in the nation in TWO FULL YEARS to be filled with orange!

Nebraska hasn’t been able to attend a football game in two years either. I fully expect their fans to show up.

Yeah, I would be surprised if there weren't 10,000 Huskers fans ... at least their colors look mildly close to orange on TV. :p

Also, RE: blocking off the corners ... actually could look kind of cool if they do it correctly. I wish they would build some type of mildly attractive temporary structure to bridge the gap between the Horseshoe seats and the end zone. Given how beautiful our stadium can look from most angles, that end zone is a practically unforgivable eyesore that could honestly be fixed decently easily, right?

With all due respect sir, you're doing GG wrong if that's what you see. Grange Grove is what you make of it as fans. Bring all your stuff, and tailgate the hell out of your day. Invest in the experience and it pays you back. It might surprise you how fun and enjoyable it is. I see families and alums coming together, students having a good time and feelings welcomed, local business offering up their wares, etc. All in a beautiful purpose built 5.5 acre setting. And what does it cost to enter? $0

There's a lot of truth in both of these.

Our tailgate scene is really bad compared with peer schools and has been for a long time, but Grange Grove was a great idea that has improved things and has the potential to improve it more, and tailgating is very much what you make of it.

The inherent trouble with Grange Grove is, of course, you can't drive a car in there. And the problem we've always had is how low-density all the rich donor lots are around the stadium. Winning football is factor #1 of course, but there's always more thought that can be put into it.

 Prob just need extra time to disinfect the grass and pavement between weekends, makes perfect sense.

Our tailgating is bad in spite of Grange Grove, definitely not because of it. It was a step in the right direction, but the key is to make tailgating and the game day atmosphere in Champaign a thing our fans cherish. Yes, winning helps, but Indiana has been known for years as a super fun place to tailgate. We have all the bones necessary for a good game day atmosphere, not sure what is missing.

Again, winning helps a ton but it isn’t the only factor. I’d love for Memorial to be a fan experience at least partially separate from how good the team is at any given moment, ala Wrigley. A place Illini fans show up to because it’s fun!

It sounds like very few people remember how great the tailgating was during seasons like 99-01 and 2007. That area can be rocking when there is a reason to be excited.

And I don’t buy the argument that IU has a “great” tailgate scene. It’s fine, but they are hampered by the same general disinterest about their football program and low attendance. That is likely changing based on recent success, though.
