Just can’t let Nb go on a run. Get them in foul trouble. We need Hawkins and MD to have great games.
Illini need to utilize their length to smother Tominaga. Williams can play too so ideally I'd put Rodgers/Shannon on him.

Coleman can extend outside to guard Mast. You can realistically hide Dain on Allick but he might not find a lot of playing time unless he can guard out a bit.

Other then that just matchup hunt and bully them. Tominaga isn't capable of guarding anyone on the Illini and nobody can match up with Shannon. Domask and Shannon had a ton of success in the earlier matchup so need that too.

As poorly as Hawk, Q, and MD played....or at least as much below their norm...and as good as Neb. has played almost every time I have seen them live, I am not at all expecting a win tomorrow...oops...today!!

But this Illini team is like a box of chocolates. The good thing is we have a lot more chocolates to put on the floor in search of the most delicious combination. Found a pretty good mix tonight with DD. But if the Huskers get hot from the arc, they can outscore us unless we come to defend for 40 min....like the Houston Cougars play defense.

If we, as a top 15 team in the country, are worried about Nebraska then we don't deserve to make a big run in the tourney this year.

We should dog walk 'em
To be fair, they're a ~top-30 team on KP. They ain't chopped liver. They've won some nice games and have some weapons and play decent D.

Survive and advance!

Nebraska’s last 8 games:

7-1 (7th in Torvik over that span. Purdue is 10th in the same timeframe)

79-59 over Michigan
68-49 over Penn St
85-70 over @Indiana
73-55 over Minnesota
69-78 loss @Ohio St
67-56 over Rutgers
85-70 over @Michigan
93-66 over Indiana

Average margin of victory: 14.5

This won’t be easy. But I believe in our guys.

Sure…

2 of those wins were against Michigan

2 of those games were against Indiana

Beat each of Rutgers & Penn State

Minnesota is their best win…

Lost to Ohio State…

4 wins against teams that played on Wednesday….

Think they’re in for a bit of a shock….

My wife and I are hiking the Grand Canyon today so, this will likely be the first game I haven't watched in real time since December 11, 2019 when we beat Michigan.

I was in a small Costa Rican village called, Samara for that game. It's a very beautiful, pure, and peaceful place with few first world creature comforts. This part of Costa Rica is one of the world's five blue zones, meaning people here live noticeably longer than people from other parts of the world. Maybe not coincidentally, they are not big Illini fans so, when I went searching for a place to watch the game, the one establishment with a TV was not playing it and I had neither the linguistic skills nor the confidence to ask them to change their futbol game.

When I happened upon some cell reception the next day, I was surprised to learn that our fledgling Illini had defeated #5 ranked Michigan. I had not yet given my confidence to Brad Underwood and co so, at the time I just considered this a happy college basketball anomaly. Little did I know it would be a harbinger of things to come for the Illini (and for Michigan 😉).

I would propose to my wife later that day.

I do have a few tricks up my sleeve to try and see part of the game today but that will require good fortune, good timing, and good reception.

After this leg of the trip, my wife will fly back to Chicago and I will join some buddies in Vegas for the first weekend. If I in fact cannot watch the game today, I hope it brings good tidings just as it did on December 11, 2019. I just hope I'm not engaged on the flight home this time.

Not sure I like this matchup right now. Nebraska traps the post and forces teams to shoot 3s (34 of our 70 shots in our last matchup were 3s). So they will likely take away our best half court options all season (Domask) and last game (Dain). And we haven’t been shooting the 3 well lately. In fact we’ve been passing up open looks. Need Coleman and Quincy to be ready to pull the trigger.

They played strong against us at SFC, hitting a bundle of threes out of their !!! (contested). We better come ready. Hoping Domask and Guerier show up this time. Also hoping Dain plays big minutes again. I love it when he and Coleman are on the court at the same time. It sure served us well during last nite, especially during the last few minutes last nite.
