The overreactions in here are just insane. Losing Tomi for a bit hurts but we still can be a great team without him for a bit, especially given the upcoming schedule
As long as we don't play a team with bigs like Maryland. Teams with even 1 skilled big man will cause big issues. Morez may and can hold his own but it's a challenge. When Morez sits it will be even a bigger issue than when Coleman was here trying to guard bigs when Dain was out. We only have one player suited to guard the quailty bigs in post with Tomi out. It may be an over reaction but after Maryland it's obviously a serious cause for concern. I'm very optimistic but I'm also a realist. Ben or Booth will likely be at the 5 with Morez out or in foul trouble and while at times they can make plays, they are not built to play many minutes in the B10 at the 5. Booth is only 19, room to grow stronger so I'm optimistic he can be one day. Hopefully he can show us something when Morez sits until Tomi comes back. I saw enough of Davis n others trying to stop those B10 bigs the other night to be concerned. I don't know how anyone honest with themselves wouldn't be.

Tomi, get well soon - for your sake.

Reminds me:

I was 18, a lifeguard summer after high school. Came down with a kind of similar virus (which I won't name because insensitive people came up with vulgar play on words). Conked, I mean conked, out for a week, high fever, no appetite, lost 12 pounds, lost great tan, speedos no longer accentuated my young Greek god physique. HA! But I recovered.

And so will you, Tomi.

Rest, sleep, eat, restore precious bodily fluids.

My best to you.

Illini: rally around this setback. Thanks.

Goal for Tomi is @ Rutgers
If this is accurate, that's still 3 games before that. Season has been riddled with bad luck, have to find a way to work through it, you have no choice.

Maryland was like the worst possible matchup (outside of maybe Michigan) to not have your starting big guy... and not have a big guy at all for most of the game (due to Morez's fouls).

IIRC Luke left for IU's business school, at any rate not our choice in the least so this "trade" talk is rather pointless
Pointless? Sure. But it’s interesting to think about the roster construction and the choices that were made.

So your opinion is that his opportunities and NiL offers at Illinois and Indiana were reasonably close, but because he wanted to get a degree from IU’s business school, he chose IU over Illinois?

I do see what you're saying. However, they did get pounded by a team who was 0 - 4 on the Big Ten road. They also lost to USC after destroying Nittany w/out their best player.

The other night, w/out Tomi, the Illini were still the favorites, and they came out and looked overmatched, disorientated and deflated. And it showed. And they were pummeled. These are reasons why I think we fans are flustered and disappointed right now.

Having typed that, BU needs to stop with the excuses, build his team's confidence and coach them up for NU. And outcoach Collins.

I mean, how confident do you expect our fanbase to feel right now? We've gone 1-3 in the last 4 and just got our a$$ kicked at home to a mediocre Maryland team (gave up 53 points in one half) and we will likely be missing one of our better players for the next 4 games.

We come out soft against Northwestern, I could totally see us lose.

Nebraska is sliding but they are hard to beat at their place

OSU recently beat Purdue in Mackey

@ Rutgers is no cakewalk

@Minnesota who just beat Michigan and Oregon..

We desperately need to go 5-0 or 4-1 in that stretch and I can see us going 2-3 or 1-4 with how terrible we've played recently

Telling everyone a player is out with mono isn’t an excuse…..he also hasn’t made an excuse, he started last games presser with we got our butts whooped….and to counter your points, we also throttle Oregon, went toe to toe with Tennessee, second half against Bama, beat Wisconsin, should’ve beat MSU without our best player essentially. Brad didn’t make excuses after that either, said you can’t win missing 10 FTs

I hope that we can be, I will root that we can be. But rather be pleasantly surprised vs let down.

DGL deserves Kylan's starter minutes. This team needs a jolt. DGL can create his own and is elite at the rim. Nobody on NW can guard him.

Screw your homer takes. BamBam continues to be an easy guard. Ty like but trade low 30% from 3 for 50 % at the rim.
He's also the best defensive guard, by far, on our roster.

Well, I hope the positives you point out will rule the day in the end.

It’s not an over reaction.

We just lost by 21 to Maryland at home and the game wasn’t even that close. They dominated us in the paint. 62 POINTS in the paint.

We already lost to NW. I don’t see a world where we beat NW with the bigs we have. KJ can’t do this on his own and right now, there is ZERO help.

The season is officially on life support now. We are going to lose every game that Tomi doesn’t play in. This is on Brad for not making sure we have proper big men depth.

What’s crazy to me is that his whole pitch last year was “get old and stay old” he makes the elite 8 and then goes and gets his youngest team ever… makes zero sense to me and it might cost us making the tournament all together at this point.

Reminder we have lost 3 of 4.

At some point we have to win, moral victories and close loses don’t get us into the tournament.

The excuses have to stop.. but that is all we are hearing the last 2 weeks are excuses of why the team isn’t winning versus just going and playing hard and earning the wins.

This team, because of their youth, is very inconsistent. This has the feeling of 21-22 team. Gonna lose in the first round of the B1G as the 5th seed and NCAA as a 8 seed to a 9’seed.
Cool, don’t watch then.

Do you not understand that we already only have two interior defenders? One being a true freshman and the other a solid 21yr old sophomore. Remove the latter and you have one freshman and two 6'9" guys that play about 3" and 20lbs below their actual size on defense.

That was a tough game for us before Tomi was out due to matchups. Without Tomi it was always going to go down the way it did. The biggest issue we have is that our two other "interior" players are basically tall wings that can't play post defense especially against good size down low. To me, that's on Underwood, but Maryland is more an oddity than a norm, so it's forgivable.

Get some vitamin D and something from Pru's stash and calm down.
