We are a poor shooting team that jacks 3s....a lot. Bad combination.

The guy we got told was a sniper from 3 isn't much of a sniper ...

1-9 against NW in a loss ... 1-5 against Wisconsin ... 4-7 against Oregon ... 1-5 against Washington ... 5-9 against Penn State ... 3-8 against USC ... 1-3 against IU ... 1-3 against MSU ... and 0-3 against Maryland ...

17-52 from 3 in Big Ten play ... 33% ... With 9 of those 17 coming in the 2 games we would've won if he made 0 ...

Numbers never lie ... So here are some more numbers ... Will Riley has scored in double figures in exactly 2 Big Ten games ... That is unacceptable ... Boswell with back-to-back games with 5 turnovers which also makes 4 out of the last 5 games he has had 5+ turnovers ... That is flat out unacceptable ...

Another interesting number ... We have won every game this year in Big Ten play besides USC when Tre White has scored in double figures ... Only other loss when Tre White has scored double figures ?? Tennessee ...

I will end my post with this ... Unacceptable ...

Said it yesterday, multiple times in different ways. A good shooter doesn't exist in a vacuum. The level that you can be a good shooter at has everything to do with athleticism, physicality, strength, and speed of the defense. It's insane to me that we are surprised that Ben, coming from lower level competition and Will being so young are struggling at the 3.

Facts. Can you relay this to BU?

How we played against Md is how Mich played against Pu tonight. We have to come out mad Sunday and beat NW.

#55
Starting lineup should be Ivisic, White, Boswell, KJ and Riley

I get what you're saying for smaller guards but shooting does tend to translate and for a 6'8 guy with a high release that is generally shooting catch and shoot 3's.

However, college seasons are generally 30 some games which is actually a pretty small sample size statistical significance. A short 2-3 game hot or cold streak can drastically alter a season's percentages.

Look at Marcus Domask last year. Shows shooting the ball below 30% for the year but was actually a 37% shooter from 3 after Jan 1st or the year before where Mayer ended the season at an average 33% but was shooting 36% until the final 3 to games.

Humrichous is shooting 36.2% from 3 this year which isn't too different from the 41.4% he shot last year(2.2 made per game last year vs 2.0 this year with similar volume). The fact that he only shot 76% from the free throw line last year probably should have told us that he was merely an above average shooter not a great one.

Obviously that can vary too(Lee Humphrey comes to mind as a great 3pt shooter but bad free throw shooter) but for the most part great shooters are also great from the line.

Let's just win the game and right the ship. Right away we have to face Nebraska at their place. At times we have been very good on the road (Oregon, Indiana and Mich. State) so I'm hopeful. Surely by that time our players will all be healthy again.

I'm not surprised. I couldn't figure out why people believed that a guy who didn't make any of three all-MVC teams was going to lead a big ten team in scoring on his way to the NBA. I don't know what the coaches believed. But we absolutely should be in position to grab better talent in the portal.

Just win - this team is 1 game worse then last year at the same point. That team had no good out of conf wins, too.

Who would you start? riley has had half of a good game since early in the year.

I remember Ben was a top rated defender early in the season which was absurd at the time. I have no idea what metrics were used; however, he is constantly straight-legged on defense, leaving guys wide open and getting burned on picks. There times when it is like watching someone’s first time on roller skates.

Take this for what you will. This doesn’t hold any weight now, but coming into the season BH looked impressive on paper - He was 1 of 5 players in the past decade over 6'8" to meet the following criteria: assist to turnover ratio of 1.5, >55% on two's, >40% on threes while taking nine or more per 100 possessions with a BPM of >5.5. The other guys to do that are Duncan Robinson, Sam Hauser, Cam Johnson & Trey Murphy. It was reasonable to think he’d translate smoothly and be a really good 2nd or 3rd option this year but something something hindsight is 20/20

the fact that somehow has to pull obscure stats out the air that were met by just a few good, not great players tells you something. What you're telling me is that thousands of successful players didn't achieve the finely tuned metric you've put forward. It's not reasonable to magically think that translates from MVC to the Big Ten. It's a fun parlor game. It's not the basis to lay out a roster.

Here’s what’s tough about BH…he’s a terrible shooter from the corner. He really struggled early b/c almost all of his shots were coming from the corner b/c that’s the easiest spot to get a clean look. I hated shooting from the corner so I get it. They’ve made some offensive changes to get him more shots from the elbow but it’s tougher to get clean looks. No answers…just an observation.

Can someone more versed in X's and O's explain why Ben seems to disappear in certain games?

Surely he has the talent to put up a better stat line than Goode (no disrespect).

Its only January boys and girls. The losses have been frustrating but it doesn't change the fact that we have final 4 potential.
But we all know we have Final Four POTENTIAL. What is now rightfully being questioned is if we have the mental toughness to make such a run probable. If you have off games every couple games and earn a mediocre seed, you just set your NCAAT performance up for failure.

If we lose tomorrow, the hole might be dug too deep for this squad. Not only would it speak to a COMPLETE lack of fire losing our rematch to Northwestern on our home court with our backs against the wall … we have a lot of very tough games coming up. We spent THREE mulligans blowing a lead at NU and dropping puzzling home games to USC and Maryland. There’s zero margin for unforced errors with Wisconsin on the road, MSU at home, Purdue at home, Michigan on the road, etc. coming up, not to mention Duke at MSG.

So let’s PLEASE just win tomorrow and avoid doomsday scenarios. 😎
