Illinois 31, #3 Ohio State 28
Attendance: 76,343

This is listed as the largest Memorial Stadium attendance on record for an Illinois-Ohio State game. Fans were treated to 72,000 orange poms poms from radio station K-104, handed out before the game by a consortium of Illini fraternities and sororities. The game also featured a 360 degree panoramic photo taken from the south end zone by a photographer from Memory Lane Photography, as the entire stadium rose and waved their pom poms at the end of the first quarter. The scoreboard in the background read Illini 14, OSU 0. Here's to a similar outcome on Saturday!

I was there and remember that game well. Illinois jumped out to a 14-0 lead then Ohio State proceeded to score the next 28. Illinois then scored two touchdowns to tie it at 28 before Chris White won it with a FG as time ran out.

You had to be there if you wanted to see it live. Illinois couldn’t be on live television that year because of NCAa probation. It was broadcast on tape delay later that night with local announcers.

Well, today was supposed to be the start of 5 days worth of “facility deliveries”.

Anyone who lives closer than 100 miles away have any info by now?!

After the game, PJ Fleck said that was the best defense he’s ever seen.
Scary comment right there!

All along I’ve been worried about our DB’s showing up, taking for granted that our offense would find a way to score 30+……starting to sense that I need to rethink the latter.

Could we get their QB to get a DUI 2 nights before game time & suspended like Bellisari was in 2001? That'd help.
lol. I was at that game. When the Illini blocked that punt early and scored a TD off of it (right in front of where I was sitting) I had a feeling it would be our day. OSU's starting QB struggled and then they brought in the third-string QB, some guy named Craig Krenzel, in the 2H. He'd turn out to be OK in the end, and in fact had a lot of passing yardage that day, but what a stroke of luck that Bellisari was a complete idiot and got suspended the day before the game.

That 1985 panoramic frames out at an impressive 42"w x 10"h. Someone might know for sure and the memory is clouded by many things here -- but I thought the camera used for this panoramic was decades old, possibly the same one used in 1924 for the MS dedication, and taken from virtually the same vantage point.

I think I was there. It was my first year in the fraternity/sorority block, so I may not have been fully sober or focused. I am sure that I enjoyed it though.

I think their only trophy game is illibuck.
They say everyone should learn something new everyday, and today I learned that in the beginning the Illiibuck "trophy" was a live 50 year old, 25 pound snapping turtle purchased from a Columbus pet store, apparently the brainchild of junior honorary societies from both schools (Bucket and Dipper at OSU and Atius-Sachem at Illinois).

From OSU sources, the turtle was mistreated in the hands of a couple Illinois fraternities (after the UI zoology dept declined to take possession) before passing away within a couple of years (in 1926), followed by the more sensible choice to get a wooden trophy Link (last part of story).

Is there a way that I can do this too? I think that I would like to forget the IU game. I do think a win Saturday, by any margin would certainly help.
I still don't really understand what happened. Ignorance is bliss and to me it’s nothing more than the “1” in 5-1.

Just think about the win vs USC the week after

Wait you don’t like the same playlist from 10 years ago with bad songs from 10 years before that? The Red Grange race is kind of cool if you are in the stadium but totally agree with the need of something unique. Maybe someone could do a dance at midfield at halftime. That would be cool and unique.
Unfortunately, that guy isn't coming back. Maybe the MI could incorporate some basic choreography vaguely reminiscent of what Chief used to perform, with moves simple and fun enough for spectators to adopt it and dance along? Anything would be an improvement of what the MI does now, which is a six-times-a-year reminder that something great is missing.

Just as it does today, in 2007, the Ohio State had the #1 team defense in the country. Eight of their eleven starters went on to play in the NFL.

And yet, an unranked Illini squad with a worse coaching staff than it has now beat the Ohio State at the Horseshoe. Anything can happen. In Bret I Trust.

Know something we don't? Are they working on the internet or some of the smaller projects during this week?

I agree that I'd like to see the SEZ filled in with temp seats for a few years, and then see what get built long term.
Definitely not, just being a well-earned pessimist when it comes to the DIA addressing the Horseshoe or picking good uniforms to wear. :ROFLMAO: Plus, as was posted, most seem confident it was for Big Noon Kickoff returning.

I’m at memorial stadium and I swear in the only guy making noise on downs 1 and 2. On third down we get into it but usually we wait until they’re already at the line to pipe up. Newsflash - call’s already made by that point. Don’t have to scream every second but clapping and yelling when we’re on defense cannot be that hard.
Regarding this part of your post, I was at a game last year (think it was MSU) and at one point when the game was still in question there was me and like one other guy in the next section over standing and cheering on a 2nd down while on defense.

Real recognized real as we acknowledged each other, but it was still a bit disappointing because nobody else was into it.

Love your message and I support it fully, but to get that result ... we'll need a similarly perfect performance! D has to step up with some huge takeaways ... our defense had 3 interceptions and 1 forced fumble that OSU recovered on that day in 2007. I have total confidence Luke can keep us in this one if the defense provides enough reason for hope!!
