Robin McCarter played for Robinson early 70s, had mono one season. Missed most of the season IIRC. Coach Reeder said that he was so weak that he couldn't even infect his girlfriend with it.
He played for Purdue along with Robinson teammate Mike Steele. Both would have played a lot more for a lower level team.

BTW Robin and his girlfriend are still married.

This is possibly a season ender. I don't mean to be "that guy" either, but I've known more than a couple who've had mono(including myself) and it can floor you for months. If he's still at the stage where he's in bed for 16 hours.....he's nowhere close to being able to participate in a light practice much less a high octane game. There's only about 6 weeks between now and the BTT. There's a lot of games between now and then and based on what I've seen without him....there are more losses than wins in there.

This is incredibly unfortunate.

Brad Underwood: Tomislav Ivisic's status is still the same. We'll list him as questionable. It's been crazy how this has affected him. We'll list him as questionable, and see whether he's a participant or not. #Illini

#illini Brad Underwood: “Tomislav Ivisic is sleeping 16 hours a day. He hasn’t done anything since Michigan State Spartans game”

Ivisic is likely out tomorrow with mono.

I suppose this is coach-speak of one sort of another. Tomi is sleeping 16 hours a day and hasn't done anything since MSU? But he might be available vs OSU tomorrow? Hmm.

He's feeling way better. It won't be a season ender

If I was Piper and if Piper was there, I would of made sure I was the last question and simply stood and announced I don't even have a question to what I just listened to, but I do find it funny that you just had a 20 minute press conference and never once mentioned the coach and coaching staff needing to be better!! Turned and walked out...not even giving him a chance to respond. Seriously can't believe the day before a critical game the University of Illinois men's basketball coach begins with a slander of a media member. Maybe it's just me, but I find it ironic he mentions his players focus, yet starts out showing his focus is still being butt hurt over a simple question by a reporter.....seems legit smh

It wasn't personal at all, they both have been playful back and forth

Piper's question was fair. Very fair and w/out an agenda. BU initial response was right and accurate. Him going on a personal attack was not cool. Piper strikes me as a straight forward honest person, BU owes him an apology.

I have no idea why Underwood is going after Derek Piper. I listen to Piper’s show regularly and he’s never been mean or spiteful about Underwood. He isn’t as big of homer as Jeremy Werner is, but he’s straight forward and honest.

Maybe it’s an inside joke between the two tho.

I’m not trying to be dramatic; I’m merely venting because Illini basketball means so much to me, and this is heartbreaking to say…

… it’s difficult to care. I genuinely regret convincing my parents to drive 4 hours to meet my wife and me to see us play MSU in mid-February. Got my wife to spend Valentine’s Day watching the Illini *maybe* decide to give effort that day. Depressing.

Ohio State 74
Illinois 64
I’m at the same - I’ve watched probably 95% of the total minutes live the past 5 years.

The past 2 weeks I’ve thought way more to myself, am I really about to invest another 3 hours into this over other stuff.

Even when they lost, those Trent Frazier DMW teams always felt that they lost an absolute war. Maybe 1-2 total games a year they looked flat.

With mono, there are two issues. 1)As you noted, feeling better is obviously a big deal. If you feel like crap, regardless of illness, you can't play. However, there's 2)how is the spleen? When I had it, that was always the concern. There's feeling better, then there's being better.

That's leads us to 3)what type of shape is he in? Assuming 1 and 2 are resolved, thank heavens, getting to a point where he's playing high level ball in front of 15,000+....where's he at?

I'm not asking if you know this, it's just my train of thought when dealing with something like this. It's just one of those crummy illnesses that takes time to resolve itself. That said, I can't say that I've ever personally known a world class athlete with cutting edge technology taking care of anyone daily.

I really hope he can be back in the next couple of weeks, but more importantly free of the illness regardless of basketball.

“He may change the starting lineup”. He damn well better. Losing a starter due to illness, and it’s not working out with Ben H, make an adjustment. Change the look of the offense. Insert your most consistent and productive player for the last few weeks.

This level of stubbornness is irritating.
Agree.

Boswell needs the pine too in favor of DGL. Better threat to slash or shoot, with similar on ball defense.

But we will see none of that
