Well you're right about the crazy part.crazy idea - try Brandon Lieb on him. If Pickett gets past Brandon can block him from behind.

Lol huh? If this doesn’t work for Coleman, why would it work for Lieb, who’s slower and less athletic?crazy idea - try Brandon Lieb on him. If Pickett gets past Brandon can block him from behind.
I envision a world where the coaches that admire and the myriad of zone defensive schemes I respect …can live together in harmony. LolBut . . . but . . but . . . according to Loyalty posters the zone is the Promised Land!?!
Huh, I wonder if a zone defense might help with this? All you are looking for is to chase the others off the 3 point line. Pickett penetrates the others look to relocate and shoot the 3. Picketts penetration is what kills us. At least attempt to eliminate Pickett penetration is a start.
A zone requires a great deal of practice so everyone knows exactly what their responsibilities are. Unless you practice a zone regularly, it could be a disaster in a game. I don't think Illinois is going to put in the time to run an effective zone, unless it is something they have been practicing all year to surprise someone. Has not happened in six years, so I would not expect it to happen now.Huh, I wonder if a zone defense might help with this?
Daring a bunch of 40+% 3pt shooters to beat us with open threes will likely end very poorly for us. PSU is 7th in the nation in 3pt shooting percentage, and they have very high volume shooters. We do this and I'd be shocked if they didn't burn the nets down and run us out of the building. When a team is as efficient shooting threes as they do twos, your top priority needs to be running them off the 3pt line as they've shown they're extremely good at making open looks behind the arc.Would double Pickett and make them beat us with threes. Rest of team was 7/19 from three in last game.

Much better to give Pickett 41 points.Daring a bunch of 40+% 3pt shooters to beat us with open threes will likely end very poorly for us. If the question is 41 for Pickett and no open threes, or 10-20 for Pickett and wide open threes, I'd take 41 from Pickett. That said, in neither game against PSU were we actually able to guard anyone outside of Wynter from behind the arc. So if the question is wide open threes and 41 from Pickett or wide open threes and 10-20 from Pickett, I guess take the former and hope, but in either scenario we likely aren't winning. If they had even 1 30% or less 3pt shooters on their team I'd agree with you that doubling Pickett and forcing him to make threes is a decent approach. But forcing 40% 3pt shooters to make open threes? That's basically their entire job and reason for being on the court.Much better to give Pickett 41 points.
You don't play zone against three point shooting teams, period.
Brilliant!How about we plant a
dummy play sheet? (a’la Mike Leach)
What? It would be awesome if we could it to work.
Except when we pressed the first game against PSU, Funk and others got threes in transition and made them.,I have an idea and have been scratching my fan head all season. How about we open first 4 minutes pressing full court, end half pressing full court final 4 minutes. Seems like when we press: We're pretty good at speeding up other team and getting our men into the flow. Creating offense through defense intensity and turnovers.
Second half same thing. Against Purdue we got back into ball game doing this and We Quit doing it with 4 minutes left in game. Lost again. Press baby, Press!
Not advocating for this, but how does TSJ's point production compare by half? Does he really score most of his points in the second half? Just wondering.Bench our 1st team All conference guard? That is a bold move, Jimbo.
You're right about the intensity though. And I will be honest, there are things about TJ's game that I don't love, but he has a knack for putting points on the scoreboard and points are good.
Where's Lucas Johnson when you need him?Ya, Picket it a really tough to guard. But what he does when he backs down can lend itself to fouls. I'd like to see us draw a foul or two in the first few minutes. If we fall (during one of his shoves) we have a chance for a foul, help side block, or he gets a bucket. Usually he gets a bucket anyway. A foul or two on Picket will make PS change their game.
As a point guard in the first half, he gets a lot of turnovers and as a small forward in the second half, he scores a lot of points. Not advocating for this, but how does TSJ's point production compare by half? Does he really score most of his points in the second half? Just wondering.
I’ve never claimed to be an Xs and Os guru, but it shocks me that teams aren’t throwing zones at us left and right, haha. You don't play zone against three point shooting teams, period…
‘Cuse did…..I’ve never claimed to be an Xs and Os guru, but it shocks me that teams aren’t throwing zones at us left and right, haha.
