With this early start time ole pru has had to adjust my usual pre-game ritual and I settled on a breakfast of 2 pieces of toast with Strawberry preserves and some community coffee/ Irish Creme flavor........yum yum...........now , a chaser of a gummy bear and 3 Ibuprofin tablets.........Around 9:30 am I will be having a couple of Oscar Meyer hot dogs ,100 % Angus Beef and some Sour Cream & Onion chips .......If we lose , I won't be eating the rest of the day , but will be drinking heavily........If we win i will be having my normal pre-game eats of Ribeye , baked tater and salad as a post game victory feast ...........

I'm debating on a wake and bake and think I'll wait until after the game is over ......

They're still going to double Kofi, unless they get him into foul trouble. Their starting lineup can't contain Kofi one-on-one. This is the kind of game where I'd take Kofi out in the first half when Edey's brought in, and throw both Hawk and Payne at Edey every time he gets the ball. Keep Kofi fresh for the 2nd half.
We need Omar and Coleman to play really well in this game, but I see Kofi in any time Eddy is. I think Williams will play a lot on the outside (he is such a good passer). You have 10 fouls to use on Williams if Kofi can just handle Eddy on the defensive end. I don’t think Eddy can run with Kofi so let’s hope we can push the pace a little.

Ivy is our real issue to cover, would like to put Trent on him and DMW on Sasha, can Plummer handle Gillis? Is Trent big enough to handle Ivy? Plus we need Trent so bad for ball handling.

In my mind this game really comes down to if Omar or Hawkins can have “that breakout” type of game. They both have the size and length to bother Williams and be in the passing lanes. So far neither has had the game they may need to have to beat PU. Omar for sure is getting better, it would be great if we could get 15 minutes out of each of them then Kofi only has to play about 30-32 versus 36.

This is such a big game for us. Win your on a path to win the league and get a 1 or 2 seed. Loose and it could be more a four or five seed type of year. Clearly not a “must” win game for us, but I think it is for them (to win the league at least).

Yes, the analytics like us. That’s why we’re favored.

But, if we come out like the previous 2 games we’ll get drilled
Unless Purdue also comes out like 2 of their conference 3 games so far, which which case it will be ugly all around.

Purdue isn't perfect. Far from it.

Sometimes I wonder what it would take for some of you to believe that Illinois basketball is good again. Clearly winning is not sufficient.
Apparently, only results that consistently resemble smiting our opponents, sacking and burning their villages to the ground, salting the earth beneath, and marching away toward the following game leaving a chorus of wailing behind them.

And even that might be insufficient.

This. Purdue was in a tight one at home against a Keegan Murray-less Iowa, lost at Rutgers, and nearly lost at Penn State. Could they roll us if they’re firing on all cylinders? Of course. Could we do the same to them if the script is flipped? Absolutely.

I really like our backcourt as a whole against theirs. We have more collective firepower and better D if damonte is locked in.

The team that can best execute their game plan will win....but that pretty much goes with any team and every game....I mean I'm still scratching my head over the NW win at MSU
the profit GIF

I suspect Purdue will go right at Kofi with Edy, then Williams forcing the Illini to either play straight up D, or sag off a perimeter player to help Kofi....we play straight up Kofi has got to stay out of early foul trouble....we sag off....Trent, DW, Jake will have to know where Stephanovic (sp), and Ivey are at all times....I think we shoot well early and that opens things up for Kofi to dominate down low in 2nd half....I think it's gonna be close fiends.....

Prudent 72
key FT's in the last 2 minutes by Trent, Plum, and Kofi seals the deal :hailtotheorange:

I think you gotta ugly up the game and make it a defensive battle (the refs might help us in that case). If you let them get into a flow offensively, it will be hard to match them in firepower and depth.

If we keep this under 70, could see another win like last year.

ILL 65- Purdue 63

It’s gonna be absolutely so close. Anything could happen.

Typing fail. Meant to be 2 of their 5 conference games so far. Whoops.

A further thought, 'cause this is an important topic (to me): I have seen many BT basketball seasons. Fewer than some towering elder statesman on this board, many more than others still enjoying the flush of youthful vigor but having spent their tenderfoot Illini basketball fandom years wandering through the wilderness along a path metaphorically paved with shards of glass.

IMHO, If you're an Illini fan and are not enjoying the state of our program and this team, right now, even when it hits on three cylinders and still wins by 10, in mid-January, when the yips (I'm lookin' at you, MSU) and the flu (*cough*, *cough*, Michigan) begin to beset lesser teams in advance of the long, hard slog that is February toward the grail of conference supremacy, and your chest doesn't swell with pride when you see BU bestriding the sideline as a Colossus, coiled like a cobra, exhorting, cajoling, and firing his troops onward to further conquest, well then my friend I counsel reflection, if not wholesale introspection.

And, again, I apologize to all English teachers who suffered through that appalling run-on sentence. It happens when I get on my soapbox.

OK. That woke me up.
