BU also said in presser that Hawkins had his best practice and Hamlin had his best back to back practices.

Underwood: Purdue has two good bigs but can really get going from three as well.

"We'll have to play very well."

Team had to take 3 days off but have bounced back "pretty solid. Hopefully, we're ready to go tomorrow at 5."

Underwood said his team needed the time off. "We were a tired team against Indiana."

Had to take three days off. They've had some good practices.

Underwood said team was able to work on some basics and fundamentals rather than game prep during the last week.

"We literally went back to basics on Wednesday on both ends of the court."

Underwood said Coleman Hawkins had his best practice this week and Jermaine Hamlin had back-to-back his best practices this week. Then spoke of hoping to grow his bench.

Underwood: Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk is cleared to play.

"He is back and available to participate."

Underwood applauds when @WCIA3Bret said Big Ten has not had a canceled conference game.

Said it shows the league has had a great plan.

Giorgi Bezhanishvili hasn't seen his mom since November, 2019. He hasn't been home since before the Italy trip in the summer of 2019.
"Think about that," he said, while shaking his head.

Thanks for the recap.

I wonder if "cleared" means he's actually ready (BBV). Hope he gets some tick, even if it's just to help him get mentally ready.

Liked the comment on BU recognizing they're tired. He pushes guys more than most, but if they're playing tired, it's time to adjust.

There is absolutely 8-10 min. per game out there for BBV if he wants it. Especially in B1G play. This is great news.

I'd make the same comment as you --- but for the 2021-22 season. When it comes to contributing THIS season, I'm just thinking he's too far behind the other guys and too much out of basketball shape, after missing the past season and a half. (If you think back to last season, he's really shown us only a single 10-minute stretch of basketball against a non-league opponent, and nothing else.)

I hope you're right on this one.

I tend to agree, however with BU's willingness to stick a freshman (Hawkins) in the lineup already (albeit not much in the B1G games), if BBV can just bring some muscle to the 4 and play serviceable D for a few short stretches, he could really help this year. Like I said, he'd have to want it and earn it.

Well, not over looking PU in any shape or form, but in my opinion they should be near the bottom of the BIG. If that is the case, then if ever BBV is going to get any tick in 20-21 it would be against a team like PU or Nebraska, ect?

if I had to guess I would say he does not see the floor (shy of really bad total team foul trouble) this season. I really hope I am wrong, but even Hawkins is not seeing it anymore. The BIG is just so tough that a rotation of:

Ayo
Frazier
DMW
Curbello
Miller
GB
Kofi
AH
(Maybe Hawkins)

That is a 8-9 man rotation which is pretty deep really?

You're right....I'm hoping more than insinuating I suppose. It will be a good thing if he sees the floor, whether it's mopping up a B1G team or he's really elevating his game in practice enough to gain BU's trust.

BBV being available (and game ready) is huge just cause it gives you another option in that 8th guy role. As a coach you know what your guys can do, and you know sometimes those lower rotation guys are fully matchup based. In theory, we can now match with length (Hawkins), power (BBV) or small ball (grand) at the 4. It’s particularly important if kofi is in foul trouble and Giorgi has to spend extended time as our primary 5.

Anytime you can add someone his size to your bench you do, he will help when Giorgi is subbing in for Kofi. Plus I'm hearing he is the best 3 point shooter in practice. /s.

I rather doubt it that you see him play in the next 2 weeks, kind of sounds like he just got cleared to take part in practices.

Cockburn and Georgi Vs. Haas and Williams last year went well. Why wouldn't it go well this year against Williams and Edey?

Big Ten Network Illinois Classic today 1989 Illini vs Georgia Keith Jackson Dick Vitale

Current teams vs 1989 Team. Who would you take?

I’ve gone back and forth in my head about that but I’m thinking he’s game available. Usually by this point the player has stepped up from rehab, to non contact only in practice, to full practice. Usually after multiple full practices with no issues they’ll be cleared for games.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Living in Indiana and having two kids that went/go to Purdue, I have watched them a lot. While Williams and Edey are offensive threats (especially Williams), Purdue is absolutely terrible at making entry passes to them and their guards are not great at penetrating to break down a defense. These two will score, but Purdue is not good enough at consistently getting them the ball for them to beat you. Purdue wins when they have a good shooting game from the arc - period. The key to beating them is to defend the arc well and to not panic if you give up some points to the two bigs.

Defensively, Purdue struggles with big guards and with guards that can break down a defense with penetration. I look for Ayo and Belo to have big games. Williams can also be foul prone (he likes to reach), so if Kofi can stay out of foul trouble, we can have an advantage inside as the game goes on, as well.

All that having been said, if Newman, Stefanovich and Thompson go off shooting threes, Purdue is dangerous. Guard the arc!
