doesn't Rutgers play really slow. and I think our pace has gone down last month or so as well

Rutgers is 279th in pace, so yeah they slow it down

Total opened at 156.5 vs PSU and they're 266th in pace, so that's why I thought it seemed maybe 7-10 pts less than it should be, idk

It would shock most to know that our team plays nearly equally as slow at 243rd. This is the slowest play style since 2020 and the second (ranked) slowest of a BU team since SFA. This has to be the most significant tempo shifts season-to-season, and makes me think of Ryan Hammer and the Trapezoid of Excellence (edit: to clarify, we used to live over on the right side with Alabama):
@illini0440 , would appreciate any insight here if you'd be willing to share!

87.1 ppg with 243rd ranked pace

Can't even remember when it was that I had looked it up and we were in the 190s, must've been at least a couple of weeks ago (or I'm misremembering that)

I suppose to answer my own question the more I think about it, I think it has to do with the offensive rebounding scheme. If you're getting a ton of offensive rebounds you're scoring more in less possessions and also spending more time on one side of the court. No wasted possessions instead of the Nate Oats style get the ball off fast and get back on D. Idk curious for smarter minds on it though.

It has to do with the Oreb we do. We have to find ways to steal possessions since we don’t create a lot of turnovers and crashing the offensive boards is the way to do it which then when we don’t get put-backs or kick out 3s we get another 20 seconds to run actions…on the flip side think about our tempo if we were creating a ton of turnovers a game defensively.

I know this is looking ahead to the next game but Iowa is #347 in tempo. Will be interesting to see the spread and over/under for that one. Complete opposite of Fran’s Iowa teams.

Last year KJ did not like to push the ball up the floor so we rarely got easy fast break baskets. We also did not have players who sprinted down the court calling for the ball. Tomas, Ben, Morez, Tre are not speedsters.

This year Keagan and Kylan don't push the ball up the floor. David likes to throw the long outlet pass. Surprising Big Z is often leading the break. Andrej is great in open court so anytime he gets all before defense is set he takes it to the hoop.

I want see Petro more because I think he likes to run and pass to people on the break.

We need more easy baskets.

Cool, thanks for the info!

I would love to see usage of outlet pass by the other 4 to andre jet off a defensive rebound to get more easy baskets in transition like we did with TSJ. even 2 to 3 run outs a game will help

I’ve seen him pass on the break one time this year and it was way after he should’ve passed it

The fascination with petro is incredible on this board for a top 20 team with multiple guys that handle the ball.
I also get fascinated with Petrovic and was probably one of the highest people on him on this board. I'm still high on him, just not in this offense/defense scheme at his current size and physical capability. It seems like as soon as he comes in, defenses create a mismatch and attack him, which is hard to do against our team in pretty much any other lineup besides one with Petro.

Right now he just doesn't have the physical attributes to get offensive rebounds and guard multiple player positions, something that Boz, Wagler, Stoj, and Davis all do/can do really well, and something that BU has said time and time again is a necessity for our team to get to where we need to get to.

I think he can have the attributes, if he didn't then I feel like he wouldn't be here, but is probably still nursing injury, dealing with adjusting to America and also trying to build muscle. As an outsider I try not too conjectural with understanding why some things are going on or it ends up becoming fan fiction.

I coached middle school boys basketball and when I retired girls middle school basketball for a long time. Without exception, I always my reminded my players of their jersey color.

I, too, wanted to see more of Petro, but clearly there is not much to like in what we've seen.
When he has gotten his chances, seems like he has been pressing too much on offense, and not enough on defense.

Certainly not giving up on him this season, but at least hope we can start to see some progress so he can be part of the equation to replace Wagler & Bam next year.
