Need to bring Rodgers off the bench to backup at the 4. He is not a lead guard.
Start DGL and bite the bullet on his learning on the job. Or start Goode and have Domask and TSJ run the offense and bring DGL as first guard off the bench and give him more minutes.
We have a chance to get some rhythm on offense before we get into league play and tougher games.

Our half court offense is simply not every good right now.

Having DGL running the point is rehashing Epps from last year. It's not going to end well and doesn't play to his strengths.

It's a radical idea but I really think Brad needs to give Nico a hard look. I know he is not going to be good defensively but he is the only true PG on the roster.

He's the type of guy you could play for 10-12 minutes in a game just to get you into offensive flow. That allows Domask and Coleman to play to their strengths, it allows Ty to be more of a factor on the boards.

I don't think they need to panic and go back to the drawing board. We played a tight game with one of the best teams in the country. This team is not fundamentally broken. I think they just need more time to jell. Marquette was WAY ahead of us in terms of playing as a unit.

I was reading an article about Greg Popovich and his wunderkind Wemby, of him he said:

“He’s doing some things that are really special,” Popovich said. “He’s doing other things that I don’t want him to do, but I’m going to say very little to him now because I need to learn where he feels most comfortable on the court.”

I feel like this is the same stage our coaches are in right now...

Bounce back game:

Illini: 98
Valpo: 56

Hot take: DGL leads us in scoring with 21. Dain scores 14. We make a concerted effort to 'push the ball.'

Where are you reading Dain is too tired? That sounds like a made up reason. The real reason he's not playing is he doesn't follow the scouting report and makes dumb decisions sometimes. Could he be a valuable contributor to the team? You bet but not if he is going to freelance and not do what the coaches are asking him to do.
Especially after last year's team...

DGL has way more game and way better ball skills than Epps. He does not even have to start. Domask and TSJ can run the offense but we need another scorer out there. Goode can be that.
Hawkins is not a shooter or a scorer, nor is Guerrier. Both are decent role player 4th option guys.

Rodgers has 3 Assists in 3 games. He doesn't even take 15 foot jumpers and has taken one three in his life.
He is a liability out there as a guard. He is usable as backup 4.

For certain, much of this team is fundamentally broken at the FT line. There are three that are relatively competent, TSJr., Domask, and Goode, the rest range from needing some confidence and hard work to "I can't look". Sadly, it does not need to be a difficult task to get significantly better either.

Who thinks it is high time for the dancing bear to get a start in this game and plenty of tic?

I sure do. Let's review Dainja's numbers from that beating we gave MSU last season:

Dainja lead the team in scoring with 20 pts.
He shot 8-12 or 67% on 2s.
He was 1 short of leading the team in rebounds with 7.
He shot 4 for 5 from the FT line, so 80%.
He had 2 blocks, an assist, and just 1 TO.

Was that 2pt shooting efficiency a rare thing for Dainja last season? No, he led the team on 2pt percentage with 64% and nobody (who play decent mins) was even close to that. (Rodgers was next at 52%.)

Again, it's high time Dainja to start and get plenty of PT! And I'm not expecting a 20pt game every outing from Dain, but he deserves more time just to get ready for BT play, where we are going to need him.
Thank you!! I am so disappointed to see how quickly he was yanked from the Marquette game.

The second issue from what I'm seeing is we are having major issues with our entry passes and our ball movement to open up better passing lanes.
This is partly Dain's fault. Amani does a much better job of making himself available to receive an entry pass into the paint, he shows that it can be done.

Guerrier is capable offensively. He crashes the boards hard, makes free throws and plays good defense. Rodgers does struggle as a shooter but is a great defender. This is your roster. This isn’t the NBA. You can’t make trades. You find ways to make the pieces fit. That’s what good coaches do.

We need to run a play for DGL to get an easy bucket at the rim.

I’ve always been convinced that when you break the seal on the basket for any one player, they loosen up on the rest of their shots.
