The line is shifting slightly toward illinois Started Virginia -2 and now to Illinois -1.

Now who knows what that actually means, probably just that a lot of bets are coming in on the Illini. In a close game like this that either means
1. Sharps who know ball are betting large sums on Illinois. Good for us
2. Large public bets going to Illinois. Good for Vegas, bad for us.

Anyway. I just hope we play with the same fire and spirit of Fridays second half!

Does anyone have advice on how to deter their kids' friends from having birthdays during Illini games? Asking for a friend.

I cant watch today's game live, like a couple football games this year, but just maintain media silence and watch later. Just as much fun, if you don't mind watching alone.

I'm thrilled with the UCLA win, that one will age well. OTOH, is it just me, or was that a career game for TSJ? If he doesn't go off with an insane 8 for 9 from 3, that game becomes a toss-up. Someone else is going to have to step up....
or not? TSJ looks like he could be another Ayo. The kind of player that's gonna play big throughout the season.
Love the toughness of these guys. Will be interesting to see how the team plays after a big win.
I get the concern that we needed a career day from TSJ to win because it flashed through my head for a minute.

But, through the first 14 minutes, TSJ had only 5 points and we still led at that point in the game. And 12 of his 29 came after we had already pulled ahead by 6 in the second half.

So, yeah, the game obviously is closer if TSJ doesn't go berserker mode. But I think we still would've won without too many heart palpitations.

After we play Virginia today, there will be four Power Five schools (Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Pac 12) and Big East teams Illinois has never played.

1. Mississippi State
2. Boston College
3. Texas Tech
4. St. Johns

The tournament or perhaps next year would be a fun time to play the Johnnies.

You have to invite them over first, but not in a creepy way

Anyone else worried about the 16 offensive rebounds they gave up? Some long rebounds but it seemed they got beat underneath a lot. There offensive style will always lead to turnovers and particularly with the “team” experience at this point but rebounding should be a strength (or am I just accustomed to having the bully?).
Odd stat: Shannon had 10 rebs in the first half and 0 in the second half.

I did see a few failed box-outs, but when one team shoots 37% to another’s 53%, there are going to be many more opportunities for the former to grab ORs.

It was the turnovers (15 first half, if memory serves) that were concerning to me, but we did clean that up in the second half.

Today will be a fascinating contrast of styles…

I rode on the elevator with Pitino at the hotel in St Louis at the final four my freshman year. I was picking up a pizza and was decked in Illini gear and he was also extremely nice and represented Louisville well! I also was peeing at one of the 3 games and I looked to my right to see a monster diamond earring. As I'm admiring it, the gentleman turns and for a brief moment looked me in the eyes with some of the most unique, pretty brown eyes I'd ever seen. I realized at that moment I was pissing next to Chris Paul. Only other time I'd ever seen him IRL was earlier that year when #1 Wake found our they weren't #1 at #3ILL in the ACC/B1G challenge. Anyways, took tomorrow off work to hang with the boys and watch the games. LFG! ILL!
Awkward. Weird. Man code - eyes straight ahead bro.
Can’t imagine an Illini fan not knowing the code.
Are you’re actually a troll from Iowa.

Virginia has that rep but 86-79 doesn’t exactly sound like slow play. Is this team different or is that an anomaly?

With Las Vegas playing host to so many Illini supporters and the Illini coming off a big win, doesn’t surprise me that the line has shifted.

I'm pathologically incapable of disconnecting long enough to keep the surprise intact until tonight.

This took a huge amount of courage to say. I mean, I wouldn't say it, but you did. I'm proud of you. 😀

Oh you KNOW the committee would love to pair St. John's with us

Do you think the fans really brought that much cashola to swing the line?
I don’t know how much is typically bet on a nonconference, early season game like this, but I’d be willing to bet this game has a fair amount more bet on it than a UCLA-VA game would have had. Add that after watching their team have a great win they see they can get 2 points versus a team that most thought was going to lose to Baylor — and the ease of placing a bet — I think it is very possible. If the handle is indeed higher than normal for this type of game, I’d bet all that extra money is on the Illini — moving the line. Now the total movement might not be because of the Las Vegas contingent, but then you have other Illini fans elsewhere as well as regular bettors who saw an impressive Illini win.

After we beat VA the Illini crowd leaves. The stadium will be a ghost town. Will Illini fans stay to watch the second game? Go Illini.
I plan on staying, two top ten teams (for now) and I’ve already paid for the tickets. But also thinking of this surreal atmosphere where there are like 1000 people watching total. Might move down and get some really good seats.

No, I am not one single bit.
