Updated Memorial Stadium Sellout Watch, five days out:

View attachment 43277

For comparison to Week 1 last season, the ticket tracker was sitting at 42,294 six days out from the start of the season. We're nearly 13,000 higher at roughly the same point in time. What a difference a year makes.
Looks like 10 seats left for WMU now, I'd imagine they announce it's sold out tomorrow.

I've been trying to decide if I should bet on WIU to cover... that's a lot of points. I envision something like 28-0 at the half and Luke is done for the day. Does the 2nd half get sloppy? With Hampton's experience, he might keep things rolling. Indiana beat them 77-3 last year, but IMO our team amd play style isn't designed to go crazy like that.

Any other opinions on this game from a betting perspective?
I would bet $10 on WIU to cover. For me that’s a conservative bet, but i’m fairly cheap.

I don’t expect us to cover either .

Bret will run run run all second half . Look for Valentine to get the most carries. The 3rd string & 4th string in many position groups will play A LOT.

we won’t give Duke anything to game plan for .

You think Boyd will? Hampton needs all the snaps he can get in this offense. His time is only a play away. And I'd run the true offense with him, score be damned.

I wouldn't burn one of Boyd's 4 games for a series.

We'll find out I'm just not too sure Boyd gets action.
. You might be right. Hampton will get the majority of the mop up snaps. We will be running a vanilla offense against Western as to not show Duke anything. We will mostly pound the ball in the 2nd half. Valentine will get his share of carries.

Let's see the starters control the game on both sides of the ball, get an insurmountable lead in the first half, and then go vanilla and see what the back of the roster can do.
Ideally the first half belongs to the starters, paving the way to see what the rest can do in the second half. It’s a super scrimmage opportunity to play/assess everybody we might need later in the season without revealing anything to stronger opponents.

It should be Valentine’s chance to shine while minimizing injury risk to the other two backs. The whole idea of putting it away modestly and then letting 3-4 string finish leaves 1-2 string rested for Duke too. No need to run up the score. Leave ‘em guessing.

OTOH, IMO, second half reps with the ex-NIU QB including throwing the ball to our best WRs would be real helpful if (knock on wood) Luke has to come out for any reason in later (non-cupcake) games.

As noted in a previous post, the Western Michigan game is now showing as SOLD OUT on the tickets website. That makes two sellouts before the season kicks off.

As for Friday night, tickets are continuing to move. It appears that the DIA released most of the available inventory in the East Balcony, except for several rows in 201 and 209. The top 10 rows for most of the East Main remain unsold and unavailable for sale to the general public. As the tracker is currently showing an estimate of 56,298 tickets sold, I'm cautiously optimistic that 57,000 could be in play.

Disclaimer: Previously I've noted that my ticket tracker has leaned on the conservative side of an estimate of tickets sold. As I've found ways to glean more information and incorporate that into my tracking, my tracker may no longer report a conservative number.

Out of curiosity why does everyone want to see Boyd in mop up duty? Wouldn't you rather see Hampton and/or Trey Petty? Also don't know if QB is the ultimate position for Boyd and think he will likely end up elsewhere much like Isaiah Williams. IMO it really stinks that we lost Donovan Leary to the portal and I hope he gets a chance to prove himself at Tulane.

Petty is way behind Boyd. Boyd is the clear cut 3rd string and even pushed Hampton at times for 2nd. Stature aside kid can sling it.

Leary might be 3rd string at Tulane fwiw...
