I reffed HS games in Naples Florida for years. 91 would be chilly in South Florida in September.

I've seen people compare him to Ladd McConkey or Wes Welker. Will be interesting to see how he produces when defenses start to focus on him more. I think his route running and football IQ to find space is going to get him open regardless.
If they do, it will allow Bowick, Dixon, and Clement to get more looks. I believe Hank will get open regardless.

We aree livin' the dream fellow Illini. We have the best combination of AD, head football coach, and head basketball coaches (both men's and women's) we have ever had, maybe in the history of Illinois sports. A lot to look forward to, as our main coaches are signed to long term contracts. We are in the golden age, let's go out and win some championships.

Certainly true for the modern era. The future is bright...

I'd argue the combination AD George Huff, Bob Zuppke (fb), and Ralph Jones (bb) at Illinois between 1912-20, each a legendary figure in his field, is still the standard to beat, with two national titles claimed in football and one in basketball during that period. Lot harder to do now for sure, but a natty is still a natty...

I think Jones is the least known/most overlooked of the three at UI (e.g., not yet in Illinois Sports Hall of Fame), with a fascinating career, including among other things being considered the father of Indiana HS basketball, winning three college basketball national championships, including the only one at Illinois (to date that is, the undefeated season in 1915) after being poached by AD Huff from Purdue, served as an assistant coach on Zuppke's football staff, coached George Halas on the Illinois basketball team and years later went on to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, innovating the T formation while coaching Red Grange and winning a NFL championship. While his tenure at Illinois wasn't that long, love how his life and career intersected with so many Illini all-time greats while being one himself.

I'd say we're perhaps on the brink of a Golden Era. I did a little bit of research and we seem to have had several, short peek periods throughout our sports history where our two major sports excelled simultaneously. (I looked only at Football and Men's Basketball.)

1951-52 - #1 Football at 9-0-1 & Rose Bowl (Boand Poll); #3 in the NCAA Tourney at 22-4 and Big 10 Champs
1914-15 - #1 Football at 7-0 (Helms and Billingsley Polls); #1 in Basketball at 16-0 and Big 10 Champs (Helms and Premo-Poretta Polls)
1983-84 - #10 Football at 10-2 & Rose Bowl (AP Poll) and the only team to ever go undefeated 9-0 in conference by defeating every other team; #6 AP in Basketball with Elite 8 loss to KY on Kentucky's home court. 26-5 and co-Big 10 Champs at 15-3.

Best in 40 years, yep I'd probably agree. And with the potential to perhaps be at/near the very top! Lots of promise with the current leadership!!

It is not a revenue sport, but Illinois women soccer have a new coach this year (Katie Hultin) and she has the team 7-0 after this afternoon's win over Valparaiso. It is the first time that Illinois soccer has been 7-0 in 21 years. It might be too early to tell, but maybe Josh Whitman got another good one with this hire.
Hopefully she can recruit as well as she can coach. She is off to an amazing start with the holdovers. The key will be upgrading the talent level for the future to start competing for top 5 in the Big 10

I agree with you. I think it helps that Beatty is a former QB. We need to focus on this game exclusively. No looking ahead at Indiana.

Any guess on kickoff time in Bloomington?
Am hoping (selfishly, b/c I would rather not sit in the blazing sun again in Bloomington on the east side of the stadium from 11:30-4 as I did in Durham on Saturday) that it's the NBC BT evening game. If Indiana were more highly ranked it might well be the Fox Big noon game; I doubt that will happen. Maybe the 3:30 ET slot? We'll see.

First game of the year this season and my wife is telling me parking has changed... We have parked at Research Park mainly but it's saying that lot is sold out... Can anyone help guide us in a good direction on this?

We're headed down in the am so our son can do the Ayo basketball camp, so will be there all day!

The weather cooled off down here in Raleigh as soon as the game was over. Yesterday was in the upper 60s. Highs in the 70s and low 80s for the next two weeks. Go figure.

Yep. We drove over to Chapel Hill for dinner after the game. After the showers passed through postgame the temp dropped by 15 degrees. Got on the road around 9:30 am Sunday and it was 70 with a forecast high of 71.

Oh well. I had a southern girlfriend long ago who told me her grandma had a saying for the young belles: “Beauty knows no pain.” Lol.

Saturday afternoon sitting there baking I thought to myself “Illini fandom knows no pain.” It’s nice that now the pain is meteorological and not programmatic!

If the Research Park doesn't have any "day of" parking (which is still worth a try even if it shows that it's sold out); the VET MED parking lot (Extreme SE) seems to be the standing last resort for "day of" parking.

Hope the Ayo camp is a neat experience! Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Hopefully Loughery can return for Indiana. Felt we could have depth issues at RB when injuries occurred. Josh McCray has 3 carries for 5 yards against 2 cupcakes so far....grass wasn't greener, maybe NIL was.

Parking on the north side of campus is just as close and also free. You can catch a cheap shuttle from bus stops on Goodwin if you don’t want to stroll through campus.

Not worried about the RB room…We have Valentine, Feagin, Wyche II, and Anderson as an option.

Very interesting, and I enjoyed reading this. But my question is (and I am not being disrespectful), did that national title in basketball not count? I have always heard that Illinois is arguably the best basketball program that has never won a national championship. Was that championship considered too old? I know that things were a lot different back then. For instance, there was no end-of-season tournament to determine the national champion (started 1939). Is that the difference when they say Illinois has not won a national championship, that is, Illinois has not won a national championship by winning the NCAA tournament?

Feels weird to say but this seems like a spread trap game. Not worried about losing, but this is a matchup in which a contender would come out and lay the wood early and cruise to a W with the reserves in the 2nd half...but a matchup where UI teams we thought were going to be at that level would come out sluggish bc of the W the week prior thinking maybe they earned the right to do so.

If UI comes out hot and puts it away early I will be VERY excited about the rest of the season.
