I'm not feeling too good about this game. I'm thinking it'll be a game that provides an opportunity for Wisconsin to "fix" many of their ills at our expense.
Last year I think that is what this game becomes, but Walters, BB, and Co have us playing decent ball and making adjustments on that side. I think we can hold it close and capitalize on a UW O that has almost 0 confidence right now. I see this being a 9-6 game where special teams is the deciding factor.

This is a bad Wisconsin offense and, famous last words, a less blowout-prone Illini team.

I think that's about right for the line, but I confess I like Wisconsin.
Wisconsin, like a few other BIG teams always seem to have a formidable OL… I really admire that and hope BB eventually has that here.

If we can get our offensive balance figured out, this is a very salvageable year, considering how everyone looked today. RU, NW, Minny, WI.
So because we’ve been so great at winning “winnable” games we’ll beat all of those teams to get to six wins…?

Wisconsin is currently 4th in the nation at opponent 3rd down conversion percentage, allowing around 27% conversions. If we do that thing we do where we run ourselves to a 3 and 7 after 1st and 2nd down, we will be in significantly more trouble than we normally are.

Here’s to hoping that play action on first down last game was a tune up for this one.
Ok, but how are they on opponent 4th down conversions?....We seem to always goes for it on 4th down now...I sure wish BB was more conservative on his play calling. ;)

So two of the top three rated recruits of the Lovie era can't get into a game ahead of 70 other players -- anyone have some insight on this?
Wasn't Beason injured to start the season, and Cooper had a pretty bad injury last season as well. Maybe both are just trying to get more reps in practice after missing a lot of the offseason before they see the field. It also appears Cooper might still be undersized to play B1G linebacker.

The defense has been a huge bright spot of the team this year too, which might be the reason too. It's amazing how you can take a group of guys recruited by an entirely different staff, teach them a completely new scheme, and in less than a year they will completely out perform their previous seasons. Competent coaching at its finest.

We seem to have improved on defense as the season has progressed, but we're currently #98 in the country in total defense (#119 in pass defense). Hopefully we'll continue to improve, especially in pass defense.

We're also #98 in total offense. #117 in passing offense. In summary, we're not real good at football yet.

Still not sure why Art isn’t being considered again, he lost games but just seems to have a better feel in the pocket once he settles in.
It's time for Williams and a triple-wishbone backfield. Running is all the Illini have at this time, plus Williams can throw on the move.

(1) recruiting rankings are correlated with future player success but they aren't perfect.

or if you want speculative reasons

(2) schemes matter for personnel
(3) injuries (likely for Beason)
(4) "disciplinary"

That wouldn’t be bad to see every once and a while Williams need the ball. I am not sure if Wisconsin’s D is the place I try out the option though. We have the ability to run some neat gadget plays if we want

Didn't realize how poorly offenses in general were doing to start the season. Illinois ranked similarly last season with 50 more yards and 10 more points allowed per game, which was all I was basing it off of.

That could be true, but Wisconsin's defense isn't a place to try BP out, either.

Yet the defense has held it's last three opponents to 20 points or less for the first time since 2011. And the yardage surrendered in the last three games is consistent with the scores given up.

A solid pass rush cancels out coverage issues sometimes....those 2 consecutive sacks by OC were a life saver for us......I hope we can continue to improve our numbers as the season goes on , but wisky always has beef in their OL....
