Interested to see how JCL plays in this game. Hope he can keep it up.

How many games have we lost in a row to Wisconsin? Seems like way too many. If nothing else good comes out of this season, I would love to beat them. It'll be tough though, Wisconsin seems to be getting it together now. I wish we had played them a few weeks earlier.

Don't think we've beat them since DMac's senior season.

Illini vs wisky

I would love to see MH and the boys bounce back to take this one.

Although the season has been a difficult one, I still look forward to each game. If nothing else, the team is still fighting.

I'm tired of January Illinois basketball. Let's get on with February and notch a string of W's!

Yep, last win against Wisconsin was January 2, 2011. Groce is 0 and 5 against the Badgers and they are the only big ten team he hasn't beaten at least once.

Weber lost his last 3 meetings against them so that means 8 losses in a row. It would be nice to finally snap that streak.

Alright, here goes...

Erasing last night and much of the season from the ol' memory bank. Pressing the reset button.

Illini win 75-62. (I don't know how, but it happens - Mav scores 17 and 8 boards)

Next up at Rutgers, 75-64, the beloved O & B.

Now going all in on the optimism: Thorne AND Black return for the Iowa game on Feb. 7, JCL leads the team in scoring and we pull off an upset.

We go on to win every game until the BIG conference semi-finals and sneak into the tourney as a dangerous #11 seed.

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!!"

You forgot to add Aaron Jordan's breakout game, wherein he has a double-double in rebounds and points, while also notching 2 steals, a block, and 3 assists.

I want so badly for him to have a breakout game.

Optimist in my is on board with this. Realist says we lose all these games save Rutgers, and even that game will be a blood bath.

Well there's one big difference now.

Just looked it up seconds before I saw your post. I knew Wisconsin has been awful to play against in the Groce era, but I didn't realize just how bad it was. And also consider most of these games have been blow outs. Wow. Speaking of bad Wisconsin memories, remember when we upset them in the BTT, I think 2010, as a bubble team. Steve Lavin asked Dmac how it felt to solidify our spot in the tourney after the game. Then we played a road game in the NIT four days later.

John Groce teleconference

Groce: Disappointed in way game ended Thursday night. Film was more encouraging than I thought. Now we have to build on that.

Groce: Wisconsin playing typical Wisconsin Badgers basketball. Running swing. Taking care of ball.

Groce: I really like their interior play. Koenig makes big-time plays in crunch time.

Groce: Should sting when you lose games like that. Can't allow that to have carryover. Have to improve, move on.

Groce: Gard doesn't do a lot new given UW history. Gard runs more swing that they used to run more of a while back.

Groce: Happ is a really good player. Great in post. Very crafty.

Groce: Anxious for Adam Fletcher to have full year as S&C. Focus on S&C different during season than during offseason.

Groce: Fletch has had a huge impact, not only on S&C but nutrition, sleep, etc. Also, has played the game. Great feel for it.

Groce: Still day to day with Thorne. Don't see that changing. In hands of trainer and doctors.

Groce: Doctors and trainers continue to monitor swelling and soreness for Thorne.

Groce: Any coach would rather take consistency over a splash of greatness.

Groce: Disappointment, frustration, stress after Thursday's loss is normal.

Groce: There's a positive dog and negative dog in all of us. The one that comes out more is the one you feed the most.

Groce: Players can't let frustration dip into Sunday. "If players had all the answers, they wouldn't need us. It's called coaching."

I'm sorry, I just can't anymore. I'm just looking for a well played contest.

I'm not holding my breath on that one. I do, however, think that JCL and Finke offer lots of promise and are the future of Illinois bball. DJW has so much potential and a high ceiling. Long, athletic and still learning.

I will be the first to give you huge props if something even close to this happens, but I do enjoy the optimism, whether real or sarcastic.

I have been a Groce apologist until after the last game where I said that he wasn't a BIG level coach. Let me just say that I hope tomorrow he starts to prove me wrong and it's the beginning of a long future with Groce.

Winning vs. Wisconsin would be a great monkey to get off our backs. I think that if Thursday's effort is there we win this one:

88-72 good guys.

Looking forward to hearing about Ethan Happ more. He's really making a name for himself after taking that redshirt year like Finke did. Great to see him improve as I followed him a little bit when he was in high school at Rockridge.

Need Hill to emerge. Every player has a bad night, and that last game was one of those. I expect a more focused and aggressive Hill.

I thought Hill was being plenty aggressive, like you said it was just a bad night. I could tell he was being aggressive when he stopped settling for long shots, and put the ball on the floor. Plus that dunk he made had plenty of authority behind it, and even that dunk almost rimmed out! Like you, I expect Hill to have a better night tonight.

How's D Oliver from Kewanee looking. Sorry if that's not in your area. Anyone heard anything about the Miles kid from East Moline?

Sorry, I thought this was the recruiting thread.

This is one team where our talent and depth is better overall despite all of the injuries. The Badgers have not been bit by the injury bug and do not have quality depth on their roster. Should be a battle.
