Opinions come wrapped in emotions based on what side of the coin you profess to be on .........This subject of DMW and his role and worth to the team has been an ongoing drama for far to long to sway anyone from their feet in concrete belief's.......I don't see the value in praising or berating DMW above or below where his true effect is on the program .......

I value highly DMW and his grit and experience .....Do I think he should score more ?......maybe .........maybe not.......The idea of him driving and getting trapped on the baseline is not conducive to winning ...But his true net worth is in the W-L record of the Illini and if he had any impact on winning or losing a game ........I can't remember his play causing us to lose a game , but my memory isn't as it was years ago......
But , I do remember his play and the effect it has had on winning games .....last night is the latest example of his contribution to the win ....

You can't just single out the putback dunk as the winning play as much as you could say Podz 3 pter was the winning shot .....They are a part of the team win that when you add up all the plays we either win or lose based on the entire game stats.................

For me , DMW is a winner and I want winner's on the court as much as possible .......This is just my opinion and I feel strongly about it , as I feel strongly about the opposing opinions stated ......it's called a discussion , but as usual, snarkiness has entered the picture and stopped all attempts to discuss rationally .....

Come on folks , we won last night ....didn't we ?........bask in the glory of 1st place in the wild and woolly B1G............................We are in a good place ....
let's put aside the chippyness and agree we need all the players on the squad ................................

I'll trust Underwood's judgement. He got us to 22 wins out of 25 games, didn't he? I'll take him over, with all due respect, people who aren't him.

Damonte on Davis (who has cooled off lately)

Trent on the nut puncher

Plummer hides on their frosh (with a quick hook for Curbelo if he’s getting burned)

Grandy on Wahl I guess (and this is where Coleman getting his act together would be so beneficial from a size and length standpoint on D)

Kofi on pre-pubescent Wisconsin big.

I truly love how we match up with these guys and advanced analytics indicate they are an overrated squad. Let’s go.

Yes I think DW on Davis would be best. Not only does Davis score but he also rebound well and gets a lot of put back baskets. DW would definitely be the best one for fighting him for those rebounds.

Any chance the storm impacts when this game is played?
Not unless Wisconsin travels on the day of the game. Only calling for rain Tuesday.

Their trip home probably won’t be fun. Supposed to continue snowing Thursday most of the day, but then again, the weather people are not sure about this storm and don’t know what is going to happen.

One time when I was living in Bloomington, IN (aka Belly of the Beast), a blizzard hit on game day and the announcement went out that the doors of Assembly Hall (aka the FAKE one!) were open for anyone who could make it - come on in for free! If they had been playing the Beloved that day, I would have strapped on the skis…

I love that in a player. I've never understood this tugging on your shirt to be subbed out. There was a player from my home town that played so hard that after the games his teammates would have to carry him up the steps of the gym so he could get to his car. He wasn't the best player on the team but his hard work payed off. He scored the game winning basket in an Illinois state championship game on a feed from a 1st team all stater.
And that man’s name was GBIllini.

This is the key...........as we have a tough road ahead.
Yep, as much as people are giddy about being in first place, we haven't really gotten a great win to our name. I'd argue at Iowa might be our best. We've had two home games that could have been signatures and we came up short.

This teams has a lot to prove yet. Hopefully we get healthy and play like the preseason top 10 team we were. But we're pretty far off from that.

At the same time, there's really no great team in the conference as the scores over the first half of the season are showing.

We are sort of in an interesting spot. With road games @scUM, @MSU, @Purdue, @IU, @Rutgers that is a very tough road schedule to close with. I am hoping we can somehow avoid a 4/5 seed in the NCAA tourney.

To that end, I think the way to do that best is to end up a 2/3 seed. I think we could get there by winning out at home, beating Rutgers and any 1 of the other 4 road games. AND, winning the BIG tourney. I “think” that gets you off the 4/5 line.

If we can’t do that then I would rather be a 6 seed somehow. Wednesday’s game will be hyped as a battle for first place, but in reality it is a battle for where we ultimately get seeded in the NCAA tourney. It is a critical game for Illinois as if you look at Wisconsin’s closing schedule if for sure is easier than ours.

Obviously just winning out would be what the eternal optimist would say, but really we are a few weeks away from playing at our “top” level (injuries, illness ect). The good news is that if we get back to full strength we would be a really tough out in both the BIG and the REALLY BIG tournaments.

Home or not, we beat sparty. Hopefully we have better wins but that's a great win

You're right. Didn't look great but got the job done.
I mean, we were missing two preseason All-Americans. We have a signature win despite hellacious luck. Yeah, the upcoming schedule might be tricky, but considering what we've been through, I don't think there's a legitimate gripe to be made on where we're at. And we still have no idea what this team will look like once they can all practice together for longer than two days.

Saw Robert post this on Twitter:

“8-2 in the Big Ten. Eight conference wins is more than 2019, 2018, 2016, & 2014, it’s tied with the eight B1G wins in 2017 & 2013, and one away from the nine wins in 2015 & 2012. Never got to double-digit B1G wins 2011 through 2019. And now at 8 wins in January.”

Enjoy the ride 🤘🏼
