QB Dwayne Lawson transferring to Illinois

Nate outplayed RGIII head to head and it wasn't even close.

Not really... In terms of stats? Maybe. I'd say interchange either QB and you'd see similar results. Neither played to the point that won//lost them that game. Our defense was too much for them.

RGIII-30/41 306 1 TD 0 INT | 16 RA 44 YDS
NS----18/22 242 1 TD 0 INT | 9 RA 53 YDS

I'll concede Nathan was much more efficient. Certainly wasn't the only reason we won the game. Plus a single game is a very small sample size. Peyton Manning threw 3 or 4 picks against the Atlanta Falcons 2 or 3 years ago. Is Matt Ryan a better QB because of that? No. One game does not define a QB's career.

Post Kittner: Its 1. Juice 2. Nathan then everybody else. Is the gap between Juice and Nathan large? No. But it exists.

It's not like they were going against the same defense. 2010 FEI defensive ratings have Illinois as 18th best defense and Baylor's at 90. What a silly argument.

I know right? People always bring up qb head to head as if they went against the same defense. Like pitcher head to head. They aren't facing the same hitters. It's completely irrelevant.

I agree and there is very little downside. If he flames out, it's Illinois and was expected. However, Lawson succeeds? McGee's rep as QB whisperer goes off the charts. Lovie cements his rep as a safe place to send your kids and Illinois picks and chooses which 4 or 5 star players they want so long as Lovie stays.

Definitely exciting opportunity.

Well, I guess we basically traded Aaron Bailey for Dwayne Lawson. Bit of a bummer he can't enroll in the Spring. Would be nice to get him more coached up in time for the season

Settle down guys, I said POSSIBLY. Let the kid play some football. My point is it would be gif city if we landed him from high school with that offer list. And with McGee the sky is the limit. How about Lamar Jackson 2.0

I think we'd be ecstatic with juice 2.0

I feel ya. Much more realistic view of the situation but I sure love me some orange Kool aid and I like the batch the staff is whipping up.

So I'm guessing this is McGee's guy with a more simplified offense since he won't get here till July???will crouch redshirt?? Or change positions?? Or transfer??he and jgeorge?

Lovie Smith mentioned Chayce Crouch today in his press conference and it was pretty obvious they fully expect Crouch to compete for starting job and be a leader of this team. I think he impressed the coaches way more than what has been led on. I'm not so sure he wouldn't have been the starter down the stretch if he was healthy.

I agree in crouches ability.... But McGee wants crouch to really fight for this spot....he has a leg up knowing the offense but Lawson's natural talent and ability makes us a little more scarier

There is no doubt that Lawson is more talented. Crouch is marginal at best throwing the ball. If Lawson works out, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to see Crouch in a TE/FB/H-back role by his senior year

With that injury to his throwing arm he def should consider that switch crouch can be a super back weapon like they used vitale at northwestern

Just a thought I had. I wonder what Aaron Bailey's career would have been at Illinois had Lovie and McGee been his coaches? Would they have stuck with him more and made him successful or would they have convinced him to move to another position?

McGee's system fits Bailey's skillset, look no further than how he played at UNI after he transferred. The kid has talent to perform in a dual threat role from the QB position, which he did really well at UNI.

Real question is.....is Lawson the guy day one?!!....

Good possibility he doesn't see the field this year, will know more in May regarding his academic status. If indeed he does get here in August, that is a very short time to learn the entire play book which is his nemesis to boot.
