BP has his best game this year...QB sneak was available on the 4th and 1....look at the replay , defense was leaving a gap open and with RB's pushing it would have been 1st and 10....like another poster said 4th and inches and throw pitchout 5 yards backwards

It appears that both Brown and McCray were available on that 3rd down (McCray came out for the initial 4th down before the timeout, then it was Brown). Having Norwood as the RB in that situation is a titanic coaching failure.
Peterson was the big question mark of the staff when they were being hired, I think it's becoming clear to see why most insiders didn't like the hire.

Do we have a counter or trap play in the playbook? If we want to run the ball we need those plays, and they were there

You can either find your new OC this offseason with credibility and a plan or next offseason with the stink of desperation all over you.

It's 2-10 next year with Petersen, not even worth watching the games, over before it starts.

And that would be a real shame, because there's some stuff going right here.
Our defense continues to improve and they live in the field. The offense is still terrible, play call is soooo bad and players are not developing at all. If they keep the OC it will never improve.

Or the staff could have called a timeout once IW went in motion and #5 didn't go with him. The play was blown up at that time. We still had all 3 timeouts available.

Rutgers played with more energy & sense of urgency in my opinion. We had our spurts but were very inconsistent today. I wonder if the refs would have called that fumble recovery correctly on Rutgers first offensive play had the trajectory of the game would have changed for us.

I think one of the reasons the staff likes Sitkowski despite not being able to hit the broad side of a barn is that he's more aware of stuff like that and willing to check out of it.

Where has this version of Peters been?. Looked really good, throwing some ropes and with touch when he had to. Even used his feet productively. Still lacks the fire you likely need to play QB at this level for this team clawing back to credibility.

Every time the football team brings me down - every time I get a flare up in my mind like, "maaaan, why can't they just" or "damn, I can't believe or "these ******** *************" - I just think about how basketball season is already here.

Works every time.

Illini basketball the ultimate organic anti-depressant.

Pretty good football game against two pretty evenly matched teams.

To me this game really came down to 6 plays in the second half.

For them:
1. On their TD drive to take the lead, we had them third and long deep in their territory, and they hit a deep contested pass.
2. Same drive, 4th and 5 they bring in a cold 18 year old frosh who makes a great throw under pressure for the first down.
3. Mid 4th quarter their punter pins us on the 1. We were between a rock and a hard place and couldn’t move the ball out.

For us, 3 big penalties on our first 3 series. Our offense isn’t good enough to play behind the sticks.

Credit to them. They made big plays when it counted. BP with his best game in I don’t know how long. He had some great throws. If we can build on that and have a “keep them honest” passing attack we may have something.

Disappointing because a bowl is now most likely off the table but I do think we showed some flashes today against a pretty solid opponent. Keep chopping wood. Keep building.

Who do you think has been guiding the play calling?
From what I’ve gathered it sounds like BB lets his coordinators call the shots, and throws his thoughts in. The bye wk I feel like BB’s thoughts into pedo st game planning were more implemented
