Rutgers 35, Illinois 24 POSTGAME

I'm frustrated as well and have wondered why we haven't been competitve the last two decades especially.

But I know that Lovie is a great coach and has solid asst. These young players are going to be B10 caliber in 2 years. We need to build bottom up, and have a system. Can't be firing coaches every 3 years and expect a turnaround.

Lovie is NOT a great coach, he's not even a good coach and is an awful in game coach. He was a good defensive coordinator.

He brought a team who's QB was Kyle Orton to the super bowl. He took plenty of Bears teams to the playoffs. Look whats happened since they fired him. I think plenty of Bears fans would go back to the days he was coaching. Probably not the majority, but still.

He probably isn't a great coach, but if he's good enough to bring a team to the super bowl, he's good enough to lead a rebuild here. Remember Illinois has never had sustain success football wise. There's a lot more to this than what we see as fans.

He's not going anywhere soon. Josh Whitman spent a lot of money on him and won't be exercising any escape clause anytime soon.

So we'll get to see, over the next few years, just how good a head coach he is. At this point, he's just developing his tools, we're just speculating as to how it will turn out.

Of course, that's what this board is for. ;)

I’m not gonna read every post. I read til I saw someone comment on Carmoni Green. Think it was FT 35. How can coaches send a kid out there with no clue? He couldn’t have played pee wee football because that’s when you learn to get away from bouncing ball on a punt. And it was pretty much at a dead stop surrounded by Rutgers players. A common word used to get the hell out of the way of ball is POISON! That’s coaching or lack of in this case. Beyond inexcusable. Having said that, usually a team doesn’t look as good or bad as they really are in a particular game. Meaning just because they lose to worst team in Big 10, doesn’t mean they won’t win another. I expect a big showing vs Minnesota. Doesn’t mean they’ll win but should be competitive. I think we’ll win a couple more. I sure miss Epstein though.

Exactly my point, these are some great expectations, to be competitive in year 4, can you set the bar any lower. Sad how far this program and the fans have fallen.

It is what it is. The past is in the past, nothing you can but whine about it.

So, you can look forward, make a plan if you are Lovie (and Whitman) or you can wallow in your grief of what we used to be.

When I was in school, we were at the top in football, basketball and volleyball. Loved those days, shows what Illinois COULD BE, but doesn't do me any good for today.

Finally, met expectations for the next few years are NOT what my expectations are thereafter. I m in the camp of saying why not Wisconsin level success? Big Ten West contender every year, Big Ten champ contender often. Go from there, build from there.
