I defer to BU’s experience, strategies, and view of practice when it comes to lineups.

As an ignorant fan in front of a tv, though, here‘s who I’m liking:

1. Belo (controls the pace [turnovers notwithstanding], plus passer [esp. to Kofi], defender & rebounder)
2. Trent (still the heart & soul of the team, elite defender)
3. RJ (adds length, ups the energy on both ends, great composure for a frosh)
4. CoHawk (adds length, great off. rebounder, guard skills, plays with more confidence in extended mins [not so great in short stints])
5. Kofi (duh…)

Keeping either Trent or Belo in for ball-handling, the bench would bring in offensive firepower (Fonso), toughness/defense (Da’Monte), maturity & plus shooting (Jake), Center relief (Omar/BBV)

Our lack of 1-4 size in the starting lineup is becoming a liability, imo. End of the day, though, BU has us in first place, so I’m not going to whine about anything. Let’s bounce back and make Izzo cry some more!
If we beat TMSSPBRM, all will look bright again.

A night when you start off 0-for-13 from 3 and finally make one at the end of the first half, and are outrebounded 2-to-1 by halftime is a night that will be rather challenging to end successfully.
Almost out rebounded 2 to 1 for game. Gave up 14 offensive rebounds. Rutgers probably got 75+% of the 50/50 balls. I know we are going to continue to shoot 3’s, but at what point do you just feed the guy who is scoring most of your points? I get you have to take shots if they are clogging the middle and leaving the outside wide open. That wasn’t the case. Kofi could have had 30 tonight if they got him the ball more.

So you put in podz and goode with 20 seconds remaining in the game. really? So wrong
No, that's garbage time of course. Those guys should have been put in the game at the 7 minutes remaining mark. Would have at least served the purpose of getting them minutes in a tough place. And then, what if they created a spark as well? I'll take the bird in the hand of experience for them, instead of leaving Grandison and others in to continue being pointless.

I have always been under the opinion that you play games to WIN , not to work out kinks or get someone infused back into the rotation ( AC ).................

The starting 5 isn't bringing it enough to offset the height and physical play of our opponents........We have cooled off from the arc and that has made our small lineup vulnerable to runs by bigger teams ..........

R J and cohawk need to start Saturday ..........Goode and Podz need to get at least 10 minutes each.......DMW is not playing well enough to warrant more than 10 minutes .....same with Jake ...I would sub out Plummer for Podz as Podz is bigger and not the defensive liability that Plummer is ......

Is BU too stubborn to change the starting lineup ?......Is BU too stubborn to take DMW or Jake out if they still start and still perform below their standards ??

I hope not .......We still have the ability to win or at least share the B1G regular season title .....But , we have zero chance if he keeps riding the non production of the veterans right now......We have 5 games left in conference .........How bad does it have to get before BU and staff implement the needed changes to infuse some much needed energy and hustle back on the court......

I highly doubt that R J , Goode and Podz would have performed worse than what DMW , Jake and Plummer did tonight......

These are my opinions and only my opinions .......We will see if BU is willing to make the changes needed this Saturday to stay in the hunt for a title.....

Underwood likes a team of different widgets he can connect into a big machine, but we're really kind of a bunch of (often quite good and effective) individual players in search of a basketball team at this point.

There's less of a coherent whole here than there's been the last couple years.

And why are we not running pnr with him? Only set calls with AC and Omar. So strange!
They ran pnr constantly for Kofi but Rutgers was switching and helping on the roll and our gaurds weren’t finding the open man. Did not handle the ball pressure very well.

Also agree with this. RJ and Hawkins provide that length. For RJ to get 11 minutes tonight is a disgraceful stat for our coaching staff. Also need to get Hawkins more confidence somehow; he's shown flashes but often gets put on the end of the bench with RJ.
RJ did not play that well when he first entered the game in the first half. He picked up a quick foul. Agree we need to get him in the rotation quicker. I think with a team like Rutgers I would have liked to see a:
Frazier
Williams
Grandison
RJ
Hawkins

Defense switches on everything. To make this work Grandison and Williams need to take and make the open 3s

I disagree. This can be a national championship team. They are struggling right now but we have the pieces to beat anyone. RJ and Coleman need more minutes. The effort is not there right now-need to beat MSU
Yep, Curbelo is not there yet and Trent can't do it all by himself.
Belo gets his legs and we're better than fine.

The freshmen need more tic. Plain and simple. 5th years guys should be way more consistent with effort and production by now. Brad gotta sit dudes down if they coming up short.
Or get them rolling. There’s a short term approach and there’s admitting that if Plummer and Trent aren’t hitting shots we really can’t go far in the tourney. Gotta get them rolling and through the slump.

Yep. That's my beef with BU right now. He's too quick to give up on the freshmen (who are not truly freshmen at this point in the season) and Hawkins, but too slow to sub out our seniors when they struggle or in some cases are not hustling. Way too stubborn for my liking, but I'm just a fan.

I was stunned to check at halftime and find that we were shooting 32%. Didn't seem like it could possibly be north of the low 20s.

Rutgers brought it all game. Its intensity was high and sustained, feet were active and they couldn't miss during certain stretches. We were sluggish, failed to seal off cuts through the paint, failed to block out, failed to fight through ball screens at times. Completely soft on the boards, as you noted.

Trent looks hurt these past three games since Indiana. And tired. DMW looks tired, too. February is brutal and the easier part of our BT schedule was up front.

We'll see what the boys want to do and what they can do. Onward. I really want them to kick Izzo's a$$. :illinois:

[EDIT: Just watched the opening of BU's presser. "No life, no spirit, no fight. I don't think I've ever had a team in my life get outrebounded by 20... Rutgers is playing harder than every opponent they're playing." And that's why they're winning.]

Yeah. That's a big problem for us. Someone in leadership on the floor's gotta light a fire.

Most of the starters look tired. I’ve thought for several games that Kofi is slower getting up and down the court lately. Maybe it’s my imagination. Beyond him, I’m not sure if it’s just the grind or a little shorter bench with the Curbelo situation(s)? The schedule def did not play out in our favor, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. Just the general health of the team probably has made it tougher on everyone.

I’m guessing, since I can’t find it, Kofi was a large part of that 1st half shooting %. And really for the entire game.

BU looked like he was wanting to be anywhere else than behind that microphone and I don't blame him .......Tonight was a cluster**** and I haven't been more down as a fan since the Cincy game at the first part of the season.......

We need new blood in the starting lineup and new blood getting more than 20 secs at the end of the game .......What would it have hurt to put Podz in and see if he could have made a 3 early in the game ...I know Goode had an airball on a 3 , but leave him in there ....maybe the next 3 would have been a swisherrooski and started a run by the Illini......it didn't take me or any other Illini fan here long to see we were not up to the level of energy that RU was at......
Try somebody different ..........I'm not giving up on DMW or Jake , but they haven't been performing to a level of 20+ minutes.......jmho

In less than a minute he didn’t play that bad. Not bad enough to sit the rest of the half.
Harper was a tough matchup - put him on McConnell or mulkahy.
