Rutgers 70, Purdue 68 (12/9 Games)

Ivey's penetration adds a new dimension, but beating Purdue still means stopping the 3. Edey and Williams had 34 between them, but Purdue shot 7/26 from 3. Defend the arc and they are vulnerable.

How does that make him a knucklehead? Everyone in their right mind called a double digit win for Purdue.

Very true, and not sure if this poster was referencing pre game....but Bardo also called for a double digit win during the last media time out with Purdue up 6 with Rutgers free throws coming out of the time out, and less than three minutes left.

Harper's was a prayer...kind of a 2 handed push shot off his right foot.
It was kinda like some old Boston Garden magic. Weaving and turning…weight on the wrong foot…Classic Cousy meets Larry Legend meets Elaine from Seinfeld’s full body dry heave. Bottom-line, got it done!

Rutgers was behind, and it was a true buzzer beater. It's almost as good as it gets.

Also, the shot that Sylvester hit was much easier than what Harper did.
And it wasn’t just the last shot. It was the last three shots. The shot as time expired by Harper following the clutch shot by Williams to put Purdue back in the lead following to shot by Harper with the great moves to put Rutgers ahead. I almost turned this game off. Man, am I glad I stuck around for the finish. Amazing!

I still can't understand why they run the first play to Harper and leave 13 seconds on the clock. He easily could have waited til' under 10 to start that play and it would have been Purdue chucking the half court 3. Maybe the defense changes a little as they wait to start the motion I guess.

I was chatting with my kid and told him its a no brainer now for Purdue. Trevion for a guaranteed bucket or foul.
Much better drama...but still crazy that Harper essentially hit two game winners in a span of 12 seconds.

Matt Sylvester nailing that 3 with 5 seconds left to keep #1 Illinois from going 30-0 in regular season play feels significantly more epic than recently-crowned #1 Purdue getting beat in week 5 on that buzzer beater. Keep in mind Illinois was #1 since week 5 that year.

Don't get me wrong, 'twas an amazing win, but I respectfully disagree with your assessment.
I’m disagreeing because I was at that OSU game and try to block it from my memory.
But I more so meant how the PU - RU game was so back and forth the last minute and then was ended on nearly a half court shot. Both were epic, for sure.

Man, bummed I missed that Purdue-Rutgers game last night. Anyone remember U.S. Reed from half court at the buzzer for Arkansas to beat Louisville in the tourney in '81? Harper's buzzer beater reminded me of that shot. Just rewatched it. Marv Albert had the call.

Oh, that one really hurt me as a then-Louisville fan as a kid, especially coming off the 1980 National Championship. Apparently, that was the first time the tournament broadcast cut away from one game to show the end of a close game, and watching the tournament has never been the same since!

Right mind in your mind. I don't live there. Something about each has their own reality.

Well, that’s his job. He probably overcompensates a bit when calling a game as to not come across as a homer. But he could talk your ear off for hours on current and former Illini teams.
Exactly. He talks TOO damn much, ladies and gentlemen.

My son and I were at the ILL-OSU game; don't think we'll ever get over it!

My son (age 12 at the time) and I were also at that game. Don’t think we will ever get over it either. I have to say the OSU fans we were surrounded by were pretty decent to us.

Ok...I'll retract knucklehead. Rutgers was down 6 and had cut into Purdue lead when he called Purdue by double digits.

I have bias for underdog...he had bias for favorite, but Rutgers was...
" in the game and in the RAC"

BTW..
I really like Bardo,...great rep for Illini and a really good commentator, IMO.

He is not a knucklehead, but wish he hadn't called Purdue pull away, given that snapshot of time in game.
