Where is JW in all this? Feel like if he really doesn't like something he needs to not allow it. He's now let LS do it, and let BU do it. That's on him and he needs to own accountability too.

Why do people not want to place any blame on the guys wearing the jerseys? It's ok to do that. It wasn't great coaching to come back from 17 down and it wasn't terrible coaching to watch them not get into defensive stances, dig in and get stops.

That's a hard stop.

Truth me told, #32 isn't getting the job done. If you want to single one guy out, which I hate.....there's the guy. Our "best" player has gone missing for coming up on a month. He was supposed to be a lottery pick? He was supposed to be a leader on the floor. Which one has he been?

You can tell that Brad is trying to rip leadership skills out of someone's chest and it's not working. The only alpha is DGL and he doesn't bring enough to the table to harness it.
Riley is the new alpha dog. We need the ball in his hands with KJ a shooting guard.

Skipped to page 11. So no Tre tonight ?

Pearl clutchers on here will tell you that Bos > Fears.

Fears left because of Brad being stubborn once again.

Brad is a culture guy. He's not an x's and o's guy. It's no coincidence that since the NIL era, the one successful team he's had was a team with 50% carry over from the year before. You can't instill a culture in one year. I really really really hope he prioritizes continuity over "talent" a little more. One of my few complaints with him.

And that brings up a point I haven't seen talked about much.

If we don't win any championships or make a deep tourney run, then the success of this season greatly depends on who we bring back next year.

It's okay to have an up and down year when you are young, inexperienced, and lacking chemistry. But only if your core guys come back. If we lose 80% of our roster again, then it's a completely wasted season.

Tired of all the bs here. BU is the damn HC and he is soiling the sheets. Let’s Tim walk, and has son try to run stuff is terrible. BU has an ego worse than NIL expectations. Just sick and tired of excuses. BU is solely responsible for screwing this up.
Screwing what up? What were your realistic expectations coming into this year with 10 new players? I'd like to see your expectations versus where we are.

I can guarantee you that this will be the last year that he runs a team of young guys out there. He won't go down this path again. He's got good talent, they're extremely young and they aren't overly tough, which I'm SURE is where his disappointment lies.

Pick 6 guys, on THIS years team, that are going to be cornerstones for next year....and build around that. He has to find guys that fit his personality because this team doesn't.
Do you think there's 6 guys on this team that fit "his personality"? Why aren't they the ones playing? I hear from people that the players aren't doing what they are supposed to do.

Then play AJ Redd. Send a message to someone. He goes 2/3 of the season playing BH who really has little evidence of being an EDG doing all the gritty work. He freaking takes DGL out of a game in the final seconds and puts in Ben. Tell me what about his personality or culture in that particular moment should we want carried into next year? And if you're one of the guys who fits this culture or personality, why would you want to stay? Does he mean it? Or is it just a cute saying?

See I am not trying to call you out ... More so the group as a whole that continues to compare this era to the Groce era ... Groce SUCKED ... Anything is an improvement ...

This is the freaking University of Illinois ... The expectation is 2nd weekend at WORST ... EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING. YEAR. Competing for BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS ... REGULAR SEASON AND TOURNAMENT ... EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING. YEAR.

Failure to meet those expectations consistently may result in termination ... Period ...
I mean maybe you can set that as standard for every year........but there are a TOTAL of 2 programs in the entirety of cbb that have a second wkend streak of more than 2 currently (gonzaga and houston), and only 7 that have 2 or more.

So full disclosure, I have never been an Underwood fan. I'm not a hater, more neutral. I don't think he's much of an Xs and Os coach, but he's brought in a lot of talent, and that's half the battle.

But honestly, if we didn't make an Elite 8 last year. Let's say in a parallel dimension Shannon didn't come back after the allegations and we were 5th in the conference and bounced out the first weekend, how hot is Underwood's seat right now?

My concern is Shannon was so good, he dragged the team to wins, covering the problems. I can't tell you what our offensive scheme is. I can't see that we actually have one. Do I think we're going to return more than half our roster next season? No. So I think Underwood's current roster plan, paired with his lack of Xs and Os, unless something changes, up and down is what we should expect.
This is where I’m at too. I hope the team excels with Brad as coach. But i agree with pretty much everything you wrote.

Brought it up in game, but Nebraska provided a defensive blueprint. Rutgers followed it and Ohio State did not. They have a help defender just hanging out in the paint so that action with Tomi catching just off the top of the key is not producing back cuts. That type of scheme leaves you very vulnerable to getting caught in rotation on any skip pass. Which leads to open looks if you are patient. We were a) not patient and turned it over and b) GOT PLENTY OF OPEN LOOKS! My god we can’t shoot though; gotta be about 350th in the nation 3-pt % since January 1.
The other thing you can do against that defense is post the s%$t out of that defender who just hangs in the paint. Unfortunately, we don’t have bigs who like to catch back to the basket and score.

At this point all I can ask for as a fan is that the rest of the season is at least fun and not a train wreck. Tonight was a total train wreck. The first 10 minutes of this game were the worst 10 minutes so far of the season.

God knows there was a boatload of scouts at this game to watch 4 potential 1st round picks. It seems like this roster really suffers with guys who crack up under pressure, and I’m sure a bunch of NBA eyes didn't help that. Just let this be a “now we have nothing to lose”, fun finish for the rest of the season. Give me a duke, Purdue, heck I’d be happy with another Wisconsin win. That’s all a guy can ask for.

Our front court ain't the problem right now. I like Dain but we upgraded the front court from last year. The guards are really hurting us
Honestly it's all scheme...we have talent but no and I mean NO idea what we are doing on offense aside from chucking 3s. When an entire team is shooting worse than prior years, that points to offensive scheme, not individuals. (Unless there is something in the water)

Might need to check the stats and analytics department. Gotta be able to read those numbers.

100% agree. I think we could use some depth in the front court, but it's the backcourt that has sprung a leak and it's on both ends. You show me a team that doesn't have a primary ball handler that can run the show, lead and make the right play 9 out of 10 times and I'll show you a roller coaster of a season.

Here we are.

Hamer ... Tyler ... Kwa Jones ...

NONE should return as assistant coaches next year ...

UNACCEPTABLE ...

And Brad ... Your seat is officially warm ... Top 10 paid coach ... Top 10 NIL ... Winning every other game ???? 1 deep tournament run in 8 years because TJ carried you there on his back ...

Sad Gordon Ramsay GIF by Hell's Kitchen's Kitchen
I agree 100%, but let’s not forget Domask as well.

But he won't. He's a used car salesman and players know it. There is no loyalty with him and if he can get a 'more talented' player with the illini NIL he will. He blows hot smoke on the recruiting trail just like he does in the presser. This house of cards will come crashing down.

Boswell, Tomi, Morez, Will (tbd draft), DGL, one of Tre or Ty.

Need to add a stud guard (older most likely)

Shooting around that lineup (one or two guys for that role)

Athletic wing (Sarr)

Backup big to help out when Tomi and Morez are in foul trouble

Literally look at the lineups of the top 10 programs. This is some Weber era cope. You need talent to win.
