Tim Beckmann is available. He could explain corn at BIG meetings.
Hey coach, could you elaborate on the "Husker" as the mascot....

An anomaly implies that this was a singular coaching failure. Mike Riley wasn't good. And Pelini wasn't great, which is why he was fired.

In the last 20 years their highest finish was 14 and only one other time were they better than 20. That's no longer "an anomaly".
They'd have raised a statue of Frost if he'd have accomplished what Pelini did.

No question he was a very abrasive, unpleasant human being, but firing him looks like another big big mistake they made along the way. Wait until you have a competitively legitimate reason.

Gonna ask the guy who grew up like 20 miles from Fayetteville to leave Fayetteville?

I could be wrong but his bio on Wiki and Arkansas website doesn't seem to state that? Born in Oklahoma, went to high school in OK, and played college football in Kansas. He also spent his formative coaching years in that same area (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma). He's been coaching in the SEC in the past 10 years because he's the extremely rare combination of dynamite recruiter and o-line coach (and SEC schools paid him oodles of money because of that combination).

Pittman doesn't have a Nebraska connection but he's coached a lot in the old Big 8 geographical area. Guy is an offensive line savant. He's doing great things at Arkansas. I don't know if he would be interested (would be tough to leave the SEC and Arkansas would be eager to pay to keep him) but he would be my #1. Leipold would be my #2 but I would want to see how the rest of their season shakes out first.

Matt Campbell would be a logical and solid get. Question though: Does Nebraska and its
alumni see itself as a program for a solid if not "great" coach?

Matt Campbell isn't suddenly going to quit at ISU to become HC at Nebby. Neither is any other currently employed coach. So what was the hurry? Wait until 10/2 to fire Frost and use the extra 7.5mil for the next coach and his staff. Trev Alberts and the rest of the UNL knuckleheads are becoming Texas lite with their collective stupidity.

You appear to be right. I was going off of another post on a different site which seems to be wrong.

Nebraska fired Scott Frost after the Cornhuskers fell 45-42 to Georgia Southern at home Saturday. Athletic director Trev Albert decided to go ahead and pay the full $15 million buyout now rather than wait until Oct. 1, when the buyout would shrink by one-half.
He paid a big price to give interim coach Mickey Joseph a chance to salvage something from the season. Albert also gained the opportunity to start assessing Joseph and other candidates as potential replacements for the hapless Frost.

Here are the outside candidates most frequently suggested by national media types:
  • Urban Meyer, TV analyst – Won big at Ohio State, Florida.
  • Matt Campbell, Iowa State – Rising star, overdue for name-brand job.
  • Lance Liepold, Kansas – Previous success at Buffalo, Division III level.
  • Chris Klieman, Kansas State -- Previous success at FCS level.
  • Mark Stoops, Kentucky – Ready for next challenge?
  • Jeff Lebby. Oklahoma offensive coordinator – Bright young mind.
  • Luke Fickell, Cincinnati – Due to move up to Big Ten.
  • Dan Mullen, TV analyst: -- Success at Mississippi State before Florida fade.
  • Bill O’Brien, Alabama offensive coordinator – Admirable job at Penn State.
  • Deion Sanders, Jackson State – NFL legend, high-level recruiter.
  • Jim Dickert, Washington State – Rising star, just upset Wisconsin.
  • Gary Patterson, Texas special assistant – won big at TCU.
  • Matt Rhule, Carolina Panthers – won big at Baylor, no so much in NFL
  • Dave Doeren, North Carolina State – steady success, safe pick.
  • Tom Herman, TV analyst – did solid job at Texas.
  • Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina – Offensive wizard in Sun Belt.
  • Bryan Harsin, Auburn – Doomed in SEC, won big at Boise State.
  • Jim Leonhard, Wisconsin defensive coordinator – Badgers are role models for Huskers.

So Campbell who has allegedly turned down NFL offers and other programs not in as terrible disarray as Nebby is going to leave a place where he is a god to deal with that headache?
If that happens it's hard not to see it as a product of the conference realignment rodeo, right?

Not that there would ever not have been a resource gap between Nebraska and ISU, but it's about to go into hyperdrive compared to the period when the two were conference mates. ISU's time as a major conference school is over whereas Nebraska is now one of a more limited pool.

And say this for the Nebraska job, if Campbell can have the exact same amount of success as they fired Bo Pelini for, he'll have a statue out in front of the stadium. Expectations matter, that's why a lot more coaches wanted to replace Lovie Smith than wanted to replace Ron Zook.

And from a local angle, if Campbell leaves I'm sure Nate Scheelhaase will be gunning to take over, here's hoping he gets that opportunity.

Klieman or Campbell make the most sense but is it a big enough splash for the Huskers?

?NIL represents the ability to get top recruits..... that interests top coaches.
Agree--but so are a number of other factors like facilities, living arrangements, etc.
But more to the point, I've heard/read some really bizarre takes on NIL (schools can pay players directly, NIL "donations" count toward IFund membership, NIL is tax deductable, etc.) so I wanted to be certain of the OPs context.

The names I like on that list consist of Rhule and Leonhard.

Rhule has built two winning programs, questions on longevity but seems unlikely he would take another shot at the NFL so soon.

Leonhard because you gave up 642 yards to Georgia Southern.
