I don't see how committee could in good conscience put us in. But crazier things have happened this year

How Illinois would it be to make it, and have our acting head coach unable to coach because of a suspension.

Incredible. That question came up in whitman presser yesterday.

Ok, thanks. One would think something like that could have been removed from his record sooner rather than having to deal with it 5 years later, or is it more having to deal with the politically-correct NCAA rules and regulations?

Huh?

You can't make contact with the refs. That has been carved in stone since time immemorial.

Why the suspension has to apply to tournament games and not the regular season, I don't know.

I can understand the contact with the refs thing, but having an infraction hang on your neck like a millstone infinitely without any chance to make it right otherwise does not make sense after 5 years.

A suspension is a suspension, he has to serve it. If he had gone to the NBA or whatever and come back, regardless of the length of time, he should absolutely have to serve it.

But why regular season games (or even the NIT games Illinois has played since then) don't count is strange to me. Oh well. :noidea:

Ok, can go along with that. Will be interesting to see how it turns out if we do go to the NIT and if the acting coach responsibilities baton has to get passed onto one of the other assistants, I guess we'll see.

No, he wouldn't be suspended for the NIT. If NIT games counted, the suspension would be over already.

It also doesn't make sense that the Illini haven't been in the tournament in 5 years.

It is true my friend. Luckily at least I got to enjoy a music festival this past weekend while we lost to Rutgers. Wasn't forced to watched that

I was at the Rutgers game. As awful as it must have been to watch that game TV, it can't compare to the perspective from the stands. The "arena" is a pathetic "mayan ruin"-looking piece of garbage. It makes Welsh-Ryan look like Rupp Arena. There are more women's banners than men's in the rafters. The student section looks like our football SS during the Lasagna era.

NO WAY we should ever lose to a team with that lack of talent and absense of basketball passion. Just pathetic! :tsk:

Here's hoping JW can come to our rescue in the next few weeks. :chief:

It doesn't apply to the NIT. We've played in the NIT since he got the suspension. It's NCAA tournament only.

I agree, but thought it was worth putting in here. Maybe he just wants to see the Illinois-Kansas State matchup.
That would either be fun or my worst nightmare.

We win, yay! We lose...well, we have a totally great excuse with the turmoil around the program. Playing with house money if we somehow get in.

kind of our luck that we end up running into the michigan/eventual tournament champ buzzsaw in the first round

I was just saying the same thing to my son. After seeing Michigan absolutely rip through that tournament....I was probably a little rough on my thoughts of our team. Rutgers is the one that sticks out to me and ultimately was the nail if you see how the chips fell.....The loss to Michigan now though, it is what it is. Every once in a while you run into a buzzsaw.

Agreed. I think we very likely could have been in if we had just taken care of Rutgers. The committee wouldn't have held the Michigan loss against us.
