Loyola - Revenge for 1963.
wow, I'm old and I wasn't even born yet. What exactly did Brutus do to Caesar to warrant revenge?

Seriously, I think that would be a fun game and if the Illini can't beat Loyola then they are not who I think they are. Krutwig will be tough be so are the Illini.

I want Iowa to play Iona just so casual fans get confused

Casual fan NCAA Tourney schadenfreude is the best!!

I once held court in the breakroom with a group of casual non fans after the office pool came out...years ago...and IUPUI was in the tourney.

I told them all that they had the best nickname in the tourney...the Ooowees. Because, as I explained to them... "IUPUI" was pronounced "Oooweepoowee"...so they were the IUPUI Ooowees.

My take for what is it worth.
There are no BIG teams in our bracket, which is a plus since no team in our bracket has faced our defense or run the gamut of BIG big men, much less Kofi. I am less afraid of any non BIG team, including the Zags or Baylor, than I am of the BIGs in the tournament.

Zags seem to have been given a big advantage that they’ve already played most of the top teams in their bracket they are likely to face

In 1963 Loyola knocked us out of the NCAA tournament in the quarterfinals 79-64 on their way to becoming national champions.

They remain the only school from the state of Illinois to win a men's Division I basketball NCAA tournament.

Hopefully they won't be able to say that much longer. :)

In 1963 i was a 14 year old from the south side of Chicago. I loved that Rambler team, and I wasn't broken hearted when the
Ramblers won the game. I technically did not root against the Illini, but it did not bother me that Loyola won the game. Probably
the only time in my life that I wasn't 100% rooting for the Illini. I certainly want some payback this time against the
Ramblers. I kind of wish they were in another bracket, because I still have fond memories of 1963. Whatever, get it over with quickly.

Not as worried about Okie State as some. Watched a few of their games. Cunningham will get his but supporting cast isn’t as good as say Ohio State. Say he goes off for 30 just like Washington did today. Cowboys don’t have a Liddell, Sueing, etc. caliber. We didn’t have our best game today and still beat a team better than Cowboys.

Krutwig has never had to play 40 min. against anyone like Kofi. He can hit it from the top of the key though, but not likely to get anything but a couple of horse shots in the lane. Even Giorgi would be tough for him to score on in the lane. But he is a smart player and always looking for open teammates and cutters....and can get it to them. Loyola will have to get a huge step up from all players to make it a game. If Illini defend like they have been, it should turn into a 20 pt. game with under 10 left.

BYU gave the Zags a game. They are not unbeatable. Look, they played Iowa, Virginia and Kansas early. Iowa is better than they were in Dec and so is KU. Vitale should know better than to compare the product then to now. The Zags are not battle tested. Playing the load of garbage they play in the WCAC is nothing close to the battles the Power 5 teams play. A team that can play solid D who is physical will give them fits. I believe Iowa can beat them now. Kansas is very physical and I believe they would have won the Big 12 if they did not drop out. UCSB will make noise in that region. I see them no farther than the EE. Why we have an advantage is that every team we will play until the FF is a team that we have not played. Until you battle Kofi, deal with out speed and physical play, it will be hard for a team to comprehend. We have limited out TOs the last few games. Getting Kofi to make 60-70% from the line would be huge and those extra makes could be the difference. When the game was on the line, he made them. We have 6 wins left to grab. Let us shut up the doubters and win the whole thing.

I forgot who said it earlier, but they were right. The Illini are the hottest team in the country right now... We check every box.. not to mention.. the media keeps selling us short.. Putting that chip on their shoulder. We are writing the perfect story..

While I think we got a tough draw it's not as tough as Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Iowa, Ohio State which has been our last 6 games with 3 on the road, 3 neutral.
Forde has never been a fan of Illinois. He is a Mizzou grad.

But Kofi has never had to play against a stellar porn stache. Could get distracted.
