Good, mature choice by the young man. Next year, with Fletch's help, he will hopefully be ready to take minutes from the loss of Harmon, Domask, Shannon, any others.
We'll be adding 3 more players from the portal next year. Not sure it will get all that much better to be honest. All I can think is Brad had the same discussion with Sencire that he had with Podz and Sencire decided to stay on during the offseason and give it a shot. I'm not sure if this actually makes him likely to be an Illini next season and that's sad because he seems to be everything you want from a player outside of a scorer.

I really hope he is here for the long haul and improves and plays the next three years. Would be a real waste for him to redshirt and then still transfer out.

Sencire is a great kid with a great attitude. I don't see him going anywhere. But I'm as shocked as anybody.
On the other hand, with his style of play, getting bulked up is the right thing for his career.

He unfortunately cannot shoot and no amount of muscle is going to change that fact.

Crazy unexpected but good for him to want to improve

If we bring in 3 starter level players from the portal next year similar to these past 2 years (which seems to be the plan), I have a tough time seeing him stay. In fact, it would probably be smartest for him not to. I hope he's an Illini for another 3 years, but I think the likelihood of that has diminished significantly. This really feels like a gut punch and the season hasn't even really started yet

Zach Clemence is a junior at Kansas and he’s redshirting this year. 🤷‍♂️

I think it’s a good decision for him. Maybe not so much for us this season but most likely will be in the long run.
Clemence transferred from Kansas and committed to UC Santa Barbara early in the transfer season. He regretted the decision (his gf plays volleyball for the Jayhawks), and after Hunter transferred in and KU's 2 other bigs both transferred out, Bill decided to let him back as insurance in case something goes horribly wrong with the Dickinson experiment.

Harris needs to develop a more consistent shot and gain weight while maintaining his explosiveness. He gets to practice and focus on his craft. More players would benefit from a redshirt. If he wanted to leave he would have already transferred so I would think he wants to be part of this team

So what if his offense is lacking - there should be room on this team for a dude who can come off the bench and shut anyone down defensively.
I'm with you. He completely boxed Dajuan Harris in the scrimmage against Kansas, outright swallowed Tyger up last year. He could put up 0pts a game and if he shuts down the opponent's best and most dynamic player, he's winning you ball games. Yes, he needs to be a better finisher and absorb contact better, but it seemed every time he was put in the game last year, he would tilt the floor and make it seem like we were an actual team was out there. Man I'm going to miss that this year.

That is what he is now, and he was looking at a whole lot of dnp's or little minutes on his stat line. I hope he bulks up, becomes a scoring threat and is here for 4 more years. Being a purely defensive specialist is tough sell to a kid in high level D1 P5 basketball.

It makes sense; DGL is just as good defensively but stronger offensively. Glad to see SH sticking around and doing it the old fashioned way and not transferring out when he realized he wasn't going to get the minutes he wanted this year.
