St. Louis Cardinals 2015 Season

Just because they didn't authorize it, it doesn't mean that they had no knowledge of it. If they had any clue that someone at a lower level was doing anything like this and did not "self-report" they could be held accountable. This is why internal emails were subpoenaed by the FBI.

What is the legal basis for "self reporting"? When I'm in the car with a speeder, should I be self reporting?

If the driver is a cab driver and you own the cab company, then I'd say yes.

I just looked up team statistics for the fun of it. 25th in runs scored!?! I had no idea it was that bad. Slugging % is a solid 17th. I think the offense has just hit a rough patch when Holliday and Adams got injured, and at the same time Carpenter and Wong have dropped a bit.

What do you guys think Matheny should do with the closer spot while Rosenthal is injured/resting? There is not really anyone in the bullpen built to be a closer. Wish we had Walden right now, he would be perfect.

I believe Rosenthal was available the past 2 games, just no save situation.

Jaime has been DEALIN! It's great to see. He was fun to watch before all the injuries. It was easy to see he had the stuff to be dominating. Crossing my fingers that those injuries are done with and he can show off that stuff.

And don't look now but Heyward is heating up. Does Matheny move him up in the order and risk him going back into a funk?

Great start for a series win.

That was a nice start, especially with it being a much bigger series for the Cubbies. Should we take 2 of 3 or sweep them, their chase for the division becomes very dim. I certainly hope this isn't the case, but we can play about 5 games of under .500 ball and get to 90 wins. That is very impressive given everything this team has gone through with injuries. That is not to mention that both the Pirates and Cubs have been injury free.

The Cubs came in to St.Louis 8.5 behind. Now the best they can hope for is to leave 7.5 behind. The Cardinals needed to win one, they did, and anything else is gravy. Being 24 (25) games over .500 does make life easier for the fans. More hitting would be welcome but this is a fun time to be a Cardinal fan regardless.

No matter how this series finishes out (after which the Cubs will still have 88 games left and the Cardinals 87), I'm not ready to totally write off the Cubs just yet. However, I think the Pirates, currently with the second best record in the NL, will more than likely be the biggest threat to the Cardinals in the division. We'll know a little more after the Birds' next road trip: 4 at Wrigley and 4 in Pittsburgh.

Definitely not writing them off and I agree with you on Pittsburgh. I thought coming into this season, this would be their best team since their re-birth. While it is better for my heart to walk away easily with a division title, I personally think it is better for them to be pushed all the way throughout. You don't want to lose your edge, especially since that is what got us to this point.

With the win tonight, the Cubs chances at the division are becoming less and less. They're now 10.5 out and it'd take a pretty big collapse by the Cardinals for them to have a chance at the division. At the very least, they should focus on going after one of the two wild card spots.

The Pirates are still the Cardinals biggest threat in the division but one of the posters over on the stltoday forums brought up the point that the Pirates have played one of the weaker schedules in the 1st half of the season. Aside from the Cardinals series they have left, the Pirates still have to travel to Detroit and Kansas City, host the Nationals in a key 4 game series late next month, and still have to play home and road series with the Dodgers. The Pirates last road trip of the season has them going to L.A., Colorado, and Chicago.

That is great stuff about the Pirates. Very interesting and seems like a schedule that will test their mettle.

Adding to that...the Cardinals are 17th in strength of schedule. The Cubs are 2nd which makes what they have done so far pretty impressive. The Pirates are 26th as mentioned. I've never payed much attention to SOS in baseball so I'm not sure how even it is by the end of the season. But I'm guessing all 3 teams will be in the top 15 since the division is so strong. I still expect the Cubs to drop back a little because other teams will be looking to make big moves before the trade deadline. The Cubs won't do that this year. I bet they end up 3 or 4 games out of the wild card when it's all said and done.

Agreed. Strictly by the won-lost records, right now the NL Central is the strongest division in MLB, 17 games over .500. The AL East is next at +14.

Actually I just happened to check the Cubs schedule and after the 4 game series vs. the Cards at Wrigley next weekend, the Cubs won't face a team with a winning record until the first week of August when they play a 3 game series in Pittsburgh and then host the Giants in a 4 game series at Wrigley. If they are gonna make a run, they could do it during that stretch.

As far as remaining series against winning teams, aside from the Cards series and the two series mentioned above, the Cubs host the Tigers for two in mid August, have a road trip that will take them to San Fran and L.A. at the end of August and in September they have road and home series vs. Pittsburgh, and a makeup of their rained out game vs. Kansas City.

What is great about our start is, it would essentially take two full weeks for them to catch us(assuming we win tonight). I will take the odds on that doesn't happen. I will never write any team off, especially after the miraculous run we had in the past. This should be a fun race. I think two come out west and two from the central and one out east. It is hard to bet against the Giants and Dodgers.

Despite the fact they keep winning, I just have an uneasy feeling I can't seem to shake regarding this team. Hopefully it's nothing, but I'll just sit back and enjoy it.

Those Southsiders are tougher than the Northsiders.

Won tickets to game last night.... fun but brutal experience.... left at start of 5th up 1-0 and still didn't get home till 2 AM...plus got soaked. Glad I didn't stick around for whatever the hell it was in the 9th.

Well I guess I jinxed it. Offense has been just dreadful ever since this post.
