St. Louis Cardinals 2015 Season

Considering we have the best record in baseball by 6 games, I hate to call any single week huge. But I'm going to do it just to keep me excited. 4 with the Cubs then 4 with the Pirates. Lest win both series and head into the all star break with a nice cushion.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome this week. Although with Jamie going on the DL, its not a good start.

So if this game can't continue, which appears to be the case looking at the radar...then it becomes an official game correct?

The tarp is off now. I think the Cubs broadcast said that, but wouldn't the Cubs have to have their chance in the bottom half, we did bat in the top half, right?

I'm hoping for atleast a split on Chicago. It will be tough to win the series with both Cooney and Lyons going tomorrow. It can be done, but it will be tough to pop both tomorrow. The best thing about baseball over any other sport, it rarely goes the way you think it should.

Cubs would've only batted if it was tied and the Cardinals scored in the top half of the inning. Since they were already winning, if game was called, it would've reverted back to the last inning completed and the top of the 8th would've been wiped away.

Good call, you are correct.

Gotcha. Never really knew how rain delays officially worked.

And lol thanks Edwin Jackson. Gave us a chance to rest Rosenthal and the rest of the pen which could be huge tomorrow. Tomorrow should be very interesting. Could be a long day.

This game was pretty fun to watch. Cubs screw up a 1st and 3rd with nobody out. Then the very next inning we break up the no-no and take the lead. Plus 2 big plays of the game are Wong's great play then Bryant's error right after. It sure does feel good beating the Cubbies when they're actually relevant.

There was a ball down the first base line that was called fair, but may have been foul. Maness didn't like the call, and it wasn't reviewable.

I thought it wasn't reviewable only when ball doesn't pass first base.

Evidently not. The thing is the ball's first bounce and last bounce were both in foul territory. I guess it's possible the ball could go fair and then back foul...but extremely unlikely. I can't complain too much because FSMW didn't show any good angles on replay, but people on Twitter with access to the press box replays said it was clearly foul. Bad break.

So what made it nonreviewable?

Good question. I looked up the official rules and it says foul/fair is only reviewable if the ball first lands behind the umpires position. So basically any ball in front of the umpire is non reviewable. No clue why they came up with that rule. It should be a simple call to make. Put a camera straight down the 1st and 3rd baseline similar to how the NFL puts a camera on the goal line.

That was a tough way to lose a game. It was pretty obvious to me in live action from my terrible angle on tv, surely the umpire should have been able to see it right in front of him. Oh well, still had a chance to get out of the inning with a tie and didn't get it done. Get the W tonight and get out of town with a split.

As a Cubs fan, I was very happy with the call, but could the home plate umpire have overridden the call? I don't recall all that was going on then, but assuming that the home plate umpire was looking up the line, wouldn't he have been able to see it and requested a conference to make a change or perhaps he was blocked by the runner?

Not sure. They should be able to review most things. Whole purpose of replay is to get calls right, but even with replay they seem to botch that too.

FRom earlier posts, it apparently wasn't reviewable, but the umbires can still confer and discuss a call I would think.

Umpire has been the chump two nights in a row. I wonder if he is always this bad or saved his poor performances for this series. Sure is a hitter's strike zone tonight which plays to the Cubs' hot bats.

My only beef is if you call a pitch multiple times off the plate throughout the game a strike a pitch one inch off of the plate should be a strike.

And of course ESPN says all the strikes have been ball and first pitch after Yadi and Matheny get tossed, Peralta takes a ball two inches low and it's called a strike.
