The only advantage stl would have is that it is closer to his hometown of nashville, but it's not like Chicago is that much farther away. The only way I see price staying is if the team has a very successful season and he really enjoys it... and we throw crazy money at him.

Which is why I prefer hamels

Exactly. They'll both cost us the same amount of MLB ready/prospects. We also need a lefty starter bad. We are too righty heavy.

I don't think so. Moz doesn't like trading pieces for a one year rental. If we do get Price this way, it would be a straight up deal like Heyward.

Struass is a windbag. I don't believe a word he says. We'll prob change bullpen catchers and he'll claim that was the big move.

I agree. Particularly when for 2015 Price projects as just a 2 win upgrade over CMart and 3 game over Gonzales.

I'd much rather sacrifice financial freedom in the future on Scherzer than give up one of those 2.

If Lyons, Cooney and Marco have to start 20-25 games for us in 2015, I am perfectly comfortable with that. Lyons had one bad start, but otherwise looked every bit the part of a back end MLB starter. Marco looks like a solid mid rotation guy for the next 10 years.

I don't understand why the Tigers would be looking to move Price. They are in a win now mode like the Cards and trading Price makes little sense. Course trading Fister made no sense to me either.

In a market where Justin Masterson commands 10 million per year, I would rather hang on to our cost controlled arms like Gonzales and CMart

There's rumors that he is unhappy in Detroit and prefers to be elsewhere. They think that was part of his problem in the second half.

Viva had a nice post about Price's velocity dropping. Something to keep an eye on for those looking to sign him long term.

Yep. It is dropping, and it is troublesome. Another reason why I like Hamels. I know Hamels is not a hard throwing lefty, but his velocity has remained constant over the years. Average fastball velocity since 2007 (stats provided by fangraphs):

2007-91.1
2008-89.9

Price has lost 2.2% velocity on his fastball in 2 seasons. He also has a little dip and hitch in his delivery. It's nothing terrible, but it can be since he will be turning 30 in August. Whereas, Hamels has reshaped his delivery (leaning too far back mid-motion) and now has a nice and easy delivery. Bothersome with both players, neither have had major arm injuries, yet. It just seems inevitable in todays game that every pitch will have at least one major surgery. Both would be huge helps to our rotation, but Hamels is the guy who is ideal, both short term and long term. I'm just afraid that Amaro will be asking for the moon, and he might not trade him until the All-Star break.

If that's all it takes to get Price, Mo better do it right away.

If he does sign elsewhere, STL gets the draft pick.

Ehhh, I wouldn't look too much into that. If they don't get anyone, Scherzer/Hamels/Price, by end of January or early February - I then can see them going after Santana. Signing him to a 1-year 1-3 million dollar deal. That's if no one has already taken a flyer on him.

grichuk seems to be expendable with Piscotti seemingly filling his spot

Nothing to do with anything, but I have been able to meet Dean Anna a few times. I believe he is from Wilmington and is currently staying in the Chicago area until he leaves for spring training. While our meetings have been brief, he seems like a very good guy. Definitely pulling for him.

Looking at that list, I think Kaminsky is too low. I would of had Grichuk higher than Piscotty, as I would of had Kaminsky higher as well. Marco is rated that high since he ready to go this season, and is a good, young lefty.

Guys I bolded are the ones who I believe have the most potential. Sierra was the youngest player in Cardinals history to win the teams hitting prospect of the year. I read somewhere that he isn't projected to hit a lot of homers, but he will hit for high average, and could be a doubles/triples machine. Think him and Marco will be receiving their awards at the winter warmup.

Carson Kelly will be up in the next year or two being Yadi's backup. He is our future catcher, and it seems like he has been in our system forever, but he is only 20-years-young.
