Still 1 HR behind.

Cubs pitching was tough this series. I’m impressed which how far they come throughout the season.

I mean it's probably a given that he's the MVP at this point but is it too soon to be talking about Triple Crown with him?
Not too soon, but we should probably acknowledge that it is an incredibly difficult accomplishment. The fact that it's a reasonable possibility to consider just goes to show what a special season he's having.

CHICAGO — When Albert Pujols connected on a fastball several inches above the strike zone and drove it several hundred feet into the bleachers earlier this week at Wrigley Field, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol heard a voice nearby in the dugout marvel at the swing and its result.
“How do you even do that?”
The question belonged to Paul Goldschmidt.
So he does know how his teammates feel when he’s at the plate.
In the routine fashion that defines him, Goldschmidt took his latest significant stride toward a feat that has not been accomplished in the National League since the Gashouse Gang. Goldschmidt homered twice and drove home five RBIs in the Cardinals’ 8-3 victory Thursday against the Cubs at the Friendly Confines. Goldschmidt’s three hits fortified his lead in the batting race (.339), he took over the lead in RBIs (105), and he left Chicago with 33 home runs, two shy of leading for that last jewel of the Triple Crown after Thursday's games.
In the past century, a Triple Crown has been won in Major League Baseball 12 times but not once in the NL since Cardinals outfielder Joe Medwick in 1937.

“If something like that happens, it would be a miracle,” Goldschmidt said. “To think that’s realistic is probably pretty far-fetched. If something like that happened, it would be amazing. To think that’s a goal for anyone — that’s kind of a crazy standard to try to meet.”
It’s becoming kind of a crazy season.

CHICAGO — After spending the past week changing his “mindset” through conversations with fellow starters, Dakota Hudson got one last tip Thursday as he was about to take the field. It came from an outfielder about to set a Cardinals record.
“I told him, ‘Sometimes it’s a feeling; carry yourself like I am good,’” Corey Dickerson said. “That’s the reason why we’re up here. You’ve got good stuff. It’s hard to hit. Make them prove it. Go out there and show them what you’ve got.”
He showed the Cardinals what they’ve wanted.
In his first quality start since the All-Star break, Hudson pushed his pace, kept the Cubs grounded and dictated seven solid innings on his way to a win at Wrigley Field. The Cardinals wanted to see how the right-hander did against the same roster Jordan Montgomery overwhelmed and Jake Woodford quieted before going into conversations about how the rotation will look in the coming weeks. Aware of that scrutiny each of his starts receives, Hudson responded with arguably his best start of the year.

“This is what he’s capable of doing,” manager Oliver Marmol said. “He was able to have shutdown innings every time we scored. He had the quick inning, which is appreciated by everybody on the field. And then, against right-handers and left-handers, he did a nice job of attacking the zone with multiple pitches, which is going to be the most important thing for him.”
Hudson said he spoke and listened to the other starters in the previous week, trying to pick up any pins of advice or direction that could untrack his recent struggles.

CHICAGO — What the Cardinals have come to expect from the National League’s MVP favorite overshadowed what the Cardinals have long been expecting all year from a young sinkerballer.
Paul Goldschmidt hit two home runs, drove home five RBIs, and had three hits to elevate his chase for the NL Triple Crown and lift the Cardinals to a 8-3 victory Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field. A box score crowded with offensive achievements, including Corey Dickerson setting a club record with his 10th hit in 10 consecutive at-bats, also had tucked in there a pitching line that the Cardinals hope is a breakthrough.
Dakota Hudson pitched seven steady, up-tempo innings and tied a season high that he had not matched in 2 ½ months.

Hudson once described this season, his first full season since Tommy John surgery, as an “experiment.” He’s altered his arm slot, tried to quicken his tempo, scrapped his cutter in favor of a slider, and made adjustment after adjustment. Through all that he’s yet to find the consistency the Cardinals feel he can achieve with groundball-greedy approach and a sinker to make it happen. He’s struggled with walks to left-handed batters, and he’s had innings come apart slowly as his pace turns to a crawl and pitches veer out of the zone.
There was little trace of that Thursday.
Hudson (7-6) sidestepped two hits and a walk in the second inning by getting three groundouts that interrupted the Cubs’ rally before they could erase the Cardinals’ three-run lead. After an RBI single in the third for the Cubs’ second run, Hudson got 14 outs from the final 14 batters he faced. Only three of them got the ball beyond the reach of an infielder. Hudson struck out four and 10 of the other 17 outs did not leave the infield.

I feel bad for the good umps.
Automated strike zones called by robots are not coming to the major leagues next season, but the trend is marching along through the lower levels, and the big change could happen as early as 2024.
Unfortunately for the good MLB umpires — yes, they do exist — there continue to be too many reminders of why the approaching change is probably for the best.
Some of the examples have played out with the Cardinals this season.
There was the horrific strike zone of plate umpire Ed Hickox in a recent series finale against the Yankees. That one benefited the Cardinals more than the Yankees but left both teams befuddled. It altered the game.

There was the ejection of manager Oli Marmol in Arizona last weekend that featured home-plate umpire C.B. Bucknor questioning the rookie manager’s time in the league. Pathetic. Good on Marmol for swinging back in his postgame comments about the clash.
And in Wednesday’s 7-1 loss to the Cubs in Chicago, there was Nolan Arenado getting tossed after a swing he successfully checked was called as a strike.

Arenado did not swing. Plate umpire John Libka was wrong and failed to consult his co-workers. Arenado’s temper boiled over, and he got himself ejected by storming toward Libka and shouting. It was a bad spot for Arenado to get sent to the showers. The game was in the third inning. His team was down three runs. Paul Goldschmidt was down for the day.

braves lead 8-1 after 8...................ugh................

Genesis Cabrera came in and faced , i think 7 batters............Hit 1............walked 1 .......gave up 4 hits and was bailed out by Lars Nootbaar throwing out Acuna at the plate...........

I think Cabrera is slowly pitching his way OFF the post season roster with his performance's lately and JoJo Romero being called up and prospering when he pitches.....They showed a screen shot of Maddox and Oli talking while Cabrera was in and it didn't look promising for cabrera....remember , cabrera had the ball drop or bounce when Oli came out to remove him earlier in the season....................
