Avid Cub fan here...............and I root for the Cardinals to lose every game they play.

But out of respect for the rivalry, I just watched the video.

Pretty darned cool.
Santo and Shannon, hanging together again. They have a lot to talk over.

My favorite Mike Shannon quote, “I’d give my left arm to be ambidextrous.” Miss you Mike. Share a frosty Budweiser with Stan and Red and Lou and Gibby and Jack and Harry and of course, Gussie. To many to name them all.

Let this sink in..... 10 games out as of April 30th. On a pace for 56 wins after the first month.

Just wondering which, if any, of these trades you would make.

Give up: Carlson, Edman, Hence
Get back: (White Sox) Dylan Cease and Tim Anderson
(Just a note: BTV says this is ridiculously in STL favor.)

Give up: O'Neill
Get back: (White Sox) Oscar Colas & Lucas Giolito

Give up:O'Neill
Get back: (Yankees) Oswaldo Peraza, Luis Gil & Wil Warren

Give up: Edman, O'Neill Pallante

On this date (May 2) in 1954, Stan the Man hit 5 homers in a doubleheader against the Giants. I listened to Harry Caray's call to all 18 innings on the family radio. I'll never forget that beautiful day in May.

To answer your question, that deal for Bieber and Rosario would never happen, but I'd take it in a second.

Realistically though, if we don't turn things around by the deadline I think we need to be sellers. Monty and Flaherty (because their contracts are expiring) and Edman (because Masynn Winn) as well as other valuable pieces like Helsley and Gio* -- we should see what we can get as far as prospects for them, particularly pitching prospects. If this org isn't going to spend on free agents to fill areas of need, they need to trade established players for years of team control. That's what small market teams do, and it sucks. I don't think we're a small market team (as evidenced by attendance and tv viewership numbers) but our ownership insists on acting like we are, so may as well try and do it right.

* almost added Goldy to this list but I do think we can compete next year, if the team decides to spend money on pitching. If they are unwilling to do that, they should shop him as well.

I would agree with a lot of what you put

At this time I don't agree with trading Edman until Winn is proven he can play at the MLB level. If we don't make moves/out of race later on than call him up. Not sure if many have taken notice but Winn has played 9 games at 2B and 18 at SS so far. Needs bunch more reps on D and at bats. Small sample size but is hitting .224 overall. One big difference I noticed is hitting .205 playing SS and .263 at 2B and D at 2B is better than SS so far. MIght also be doing this to get him up sooner and make a move down the road.... ;)

True, but Edman has much more value now as a trade chip than this time next season. He's got 2 years of control after this season. If we're not competing this season a big chunk of his value is lost on us. If we're not competing next season then that effect is further compounded. If we're sellers, and don't want to give up either of our two big stars, Edman is probably the most valuable trade chip we could be willing to move (obviously I don't think we'd move guys with tons of team control like Donovan, Gorman, etc.). With DeJong moving on after this season we probably need to sign a middle infielder anyway. I think a move worth considering would be to trade Edman while value is still high and sign someone who can hold down the position until Winn is ready.

Another day , another off day for the Cardinals .........................Angels lead 4-0 going into bottom of the 1st.......Matz ( 0-3 ) is the starting thrower for the Cardinals...........

Looks like MO gonna have his first sub .500 team in his tenure ..........this Cardinals team is just a bad mix of individuals with
poor starting throwing and PDJ is STILL with the team and starting the last few games...........I expect Marmol gets the pink slip no later than the All Star game if this continues as it is going right now.........

Gonna be a long season............

To get to 88 wins, a reasonable total to be in chase for division or possibly final wild card, they have to go 78-55. Short of a big shakeup, I don't see it.

I was 5 when they won in 64. Saw my first game at Busch a couple years later. This is reminding me of the 70's and post Gussie years when AB didn't care about the team. Not used to feeling like the season may be over by the 1st of May.

Somebody talk me off the ledge, lol.

Offseason before last we were looking to sign a pitcher and a lot of fans wanted Marcus Stroman who signed with Cubs for $71 million/3 yrs. Instead we signed Matz for $44 million/4 yrs.

Stroman as a Cub: 3.26 ERA, 174 innings, 152 SO, 49 BB, 1.126 WHIP, 3.8 WAR.

Matz as a Cardinal (does not include the ongoing game against Angels): 5.59 ERA, 74 innings, 81 SO, 23 BB, 1.419 WHIP, -0.6 WAR.

Classic case of you get what you pay for.

Another great at bat by TON , jumping out of the batter's box at a called 3rd strike like a scared little leaguer.....

then the fantastic PDJ hits a roller down the 1st base line thrown out by the pitcher.......But never fear cardinals fans , we have the all mighty Andrew Kinzner leading of in the bottom of the 3rd for the feckless redbirds......

unreal..........

another Angel with a lead off hit in the top of the third........getting close to switching over to find an NBA or NHL game to watch......

edit : Knizner strikes out.......knew that was coming before he stood into the batters box....

Angels still lead 4-0 through 4 innings ......Cardinals with ZERO hits so far............what an exciting team this year.........wonder if this continues if they still reach the 3 million attendance number ??
