Not sure he is our most valuable trade piece because of his contract. I think Hesley and Gray probably are.

Possibly for Gray, though I think you may be underestimating the trade potential for a 25 HR potential middle of the order bat who can occasionally play catcher (don't think he's an everyday catcher if you want to maximize his bat). 136 OPS+ last season.

I think we can get a lot for Helsley, but not sure a relief pitcher will ever have more trade value than a dependable SP like Gray or an impact bat like Contreras.

Wonder if/when we will find out about the financial implications of this arrangement.

Yea if Helsley isn't traded this off season, I'm ready to declare front office malpractice

Gray's contract makes it tough to trade him. $25MM this year and $35MM next year.

Cardinals own their own their in-territory streaming rights, unlike several other teams who were a part of the Diamond Sports fiasco.

So while surely the Diamond Sports annual payment was reduced significantly for this year, the Cardinals will recoup at least some of that through getting the direct-to-consumer streaming subscription money.

Won't matter for those of us that have Xfinity.

Boy, I hope Chaim is going to be the man behind the curtain with these trades. I know he was kind of run out of Boston, but I don't think it is a coincidence that they are swimming in talent right now.

Eh, Bloom's tenure in Boston was not great. Not entirely his fault but his trade record is not the most encouraging. The Mookie Betts trade is the obvious example, but subsequently he tried to stockpile talent with other trades and was largely unsuccessful (with one exception - getting back Wilyer Abreu for Christian Vasquez).

Most of the talent you're talking about, guys like Jarren Duran, Ceddane Rafaela, and Rafael Devers were already in the organization before Bloom got there.

That's not to say Bloom won't do a good job here, just best to temper expectations. He's not some miracle worker. Most Red Sox fans do not look fondly on his tenure there.

You have valid points there, but I think he will bring us into the 2020's. He was never going to win the Mookie trade. That is impossible. I always felt that the Red Sox did him dirty. They wanted to act like the Yanks in public, but held back resources behind closed doors. I don't think that happens in STL and I think ownership has made that abundantly clear this fall.
I just hope he gets are analytics up to speed and fast, because websre going to need some data driven information on getting players back.
I also hope he doesn't wait too long on players in system that should be locked up. He probably should've had Xander in Boston long term and not waited until a cheap front office wouldn't match. Was thr right move not matching, it just looks terrible to fan base.

Also another thing about the Red Sox swimming in talent, they have 6 in the mlb top 100. 5 of them come from the Chaim regime.
Yes, but I was specifically responding to the trades aspect. None of those guys were acquired via trade - all were drafted by Bloom. He is definitely good at drafting talent. It did also help that his Boston teams did really poorly so his picks were relatively high in the draft.

I can't read article, but I think it is definitely time to move on from Nado. I like him and provided some good memories, but I think he under performed here. Paired him with an MVP and we got 3 playoff games.
Agree.

Not sure I understand keeping Gray at this point, unless it's just a matter of him not being ready to waive his NTC. If that's the case then I'd imagine they re-evaluate at the deadline. I like him but they've said they're not competing this year. In that case we'd essentially be paying him $60 million for the possibility he might be able to contribute to a competitive team in 2026. I feel like there are smarter ways to spend that money.
