St Louis Cardinals 2024

#2
Cardinals have gotten off to a good start in addressing the main issues from last season's dreadful performance.......Next issue should be to shore up the bullpen and let go some of the underperforming arms and replace with some swing and miss fireballer's......

There is a Japanese reliever that I have read they have an interest in and could fit in nicely......i also think I read that he does NOT require a posting fee , so maybe he would fit in to the Cardinals budget........

if they don't trade Matz away , I could see him as a valuable lefty for the bullpen........He seemed like he had a lot of trouble facing batters for a second or third plate appearance against him............

I am also looking at what they do with Helsley.......apparently there is some friction about his last arbitration salary difference's........

will they trade TON or will they give him one more year to see if he can stay healthy and produce like his one great season......I know they are advertising him as available in a trade , but I don;t see them giving him away and projections are his salary next season to be in the $ 5 million range......

And please don't trade Donovan away.......i read yesterday that one of the national pundits proposed a trade with the Mariners for the pitcher Logan Gilbert ....the pundit proposed Donovan , TON and 2-3 highly rated prospects......

It will be very interesting to see what the roster looks like when spring training starts........let's hope enough work has been done to avoid the embarrassing result of last season........another sub par finish next season should get heads to roll and a major overhaul of the FO and coaching staff including a new manager.......I like Marmol and hope he will have some imput into the decisions being made for next season.................I know he has some issues such as managing the bullpen and keeping a regular lineup without tinkering so much with it..........managing days off with the team embroiled in last place kinda ticked me off as I believe a player needs a regular number of at bats to get on a good hitting streak.......

Let's Go Cardinals...................................JMHO

Article in St Louis Business Journal says Bally could drop the Cardinals and Blues by September next year.

one top of the rotation starter could make this team watchable again. were now in a position to do just that. i like donovan
but don't love him if it is for just anybody. Consider that Gilbert is making $7.9 mil and not free agent eligible for another 4 years,,,,.
made 88 starts in 3 full seasons, throws 95.7 and has a wipe out slider. Beiber, Burns, Cease and Glasnow also could be a deal, but
4 years of control of Gilbert is hard to pass up.

4 years of control and him being in his prime years for awhile is very appealing

They will have to give up a haul to get him. MLB ready players and big time prospects

I look for the Cardinals to land another pitcher. Our pitching staff is night and day different whether we land a #1 or #2 pitcher. Curious if they are riding with mainly RHP or going to land a quality LHP.

Matz and a prospect for Glasnow makes sense. The asking price for Dylan Cease seems to be too much for me, even though he is controllable for a longer period of time and cheaper. I hate giving away someone like Gorman, with his potential and an everyday player for someone who plays every 5th game. Dylan Cease's stats weren't even that strong this summer.

Bottom line is our pitching staff is better, but we need a number 1 or at least another strong number 2 pitcher to compete in the playoffs. Gray and whoever is the number 2 just aren't the level you need to advance. We see it every year...good pitching shuts down good hitting. Load up!!

My view is that the Redbird brass needs to determine, who the centerfielder and second baseman are and jettison the platoon system. There are plenty of pieces to trade. There has to be more pop in the line-up. I said this previously. The Cardinals were 19th in run production last year, and as everybody knows the pitching was even worse.

Report: Molina won't join Cardinals' full-time coaching staff | ksdk.com

I heard Benji Molina on the radio a couple of days ago. He said Yadi was managing a team in Venezuela and was tossed in each of the first four games of the year. Guess he hasn't lost any intensity....

gee, what a surprise, Yadi gets a special assignment. let us write you a
check so that we can bring you in mid season if we have to and to keep
you quiet regarding our ineptitude. (see my guess from a page or two
before)

Don't think was mentioned but Cardinals grabbed RHP Ryan Fernandez in Rule 5 Draft a few days ago from Boston Red Sox

Well it's done. I always hoped he would build on his 2021 season and become someone special.
Josh Jacobs ended his article by saying,
Frankly, I was a huge fan of Tyler O'Neill during his tenure with the Cardinals, and although it was time for a fresh start for both sides, it's really disappointing to see his time with St. Louis end like this. The heights he reached in 2021 were some of the most exciting we've seen from a Cardinal in a long time, and even if he cannot reach that potential again, he still can be a valuable piece to a contending ballclub.
